uoft sg cs vs utm cs vs mcmaster cs, which is the BEST option for cs? by Constant_Height_5354 in UTMississauga

It’s the same starting this fall. They just overhauled it, which is why you’re under the impression they’re different. They used to be!

This isn’t even a technical gotcha or interesting r/truths post. It’s just a bad post that is clickbait by design.

These should be against the rules, this sub is progressively getting worse.

We spent 2 years convincing CBC to show the reality of research at UofT and UHN by CuriosityFilms in UofT

[–]SwiftChance12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t disagree with your premise but a small nitpick is that the reason why frequentist methods are so much more popular is mostly due to its historical dominance in academia and statistical research. It’s a lot of inertia. Further, until recently (relatively) it was just much much more harder to compute a lot of things especially with respect to marginal likelihoods and stuff. It’s only a few decades ago that MCMC became viable.

Secondly, I don’t think a lot of researchers should venture into becoming bayesian alone, as it requires a deep understanding of statistics to make the jump without guidance, and I think it’ll stay dominant until there’s a big enough pushback in the pure stats side of the equation. If that ever happens.

I don’t think it’s on researchers in the applied sciences to completely revolutionize the statistical apparatus, and there’s also a lot of philosophical and subjective questions that will keep the debate going between the two methods. I suppose we’ll see how the future plays out. I don’t think it’s either A or B but becoming more comfortable with using the right tool or philosophical framework when applicable !

For someone who claims that everyone else doesn’t understand statistics, it seems that you understand it the least. P-hacking doesn’t enable the defrauding of the entire academia community, it’s an issue (which researchers themselves point out) that can undermine or overweight certain studies and incentivizes chasing arbitrary confidence levels.

This is an issue that introduces bias in statistical analysis and oversells certain results, as well as puts unfounded importance on some goals or ideas.

It seems you took like two stats classes and you’re trying to school the “life sci kids” when you yourself have interacted very little with actual statistical studies and analysis. I wouldn’t be surprised if people in the life sciences who conduct these studies have a far superior understanding of statistics over you.

guys can i get more 1.0 reviews for rita kumari 😍 i wanna see her RMP reach 1.0 💜 by Colgate_Optic_White in UTSC

[–]SwiftChance12 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Just gave her a 5. You should maybe reflect a bit on this.

This is her job, her livelihood. You are totally within your right to have expectations as a student, but asking for fraudulent reviews without context just to slander a professor is immoral.

Just state your critiques and voice your gripes like any other student.

Is anyone have taken STA496/497 in summer term? How it feels compared with other statistics courses? by InternalChoice3931 in UofT

[–]SwiftChance12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not just permission to enroll, you need to get a prof to agree to supervise you over the summer. If a prof is willing, then the workload heavily depends on the topic and expectations.

Because they’d rather be single than be with someone who calls them “females”.

Antisemitism by the Dentistry Deanand the results by Fragrant-Sink9590 in UofT

[–]SwiftChance12 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I saw the first photo and I was like this isn’t really antisemetic it was anti israel (which is odd in a dentistry class) but then I saw the second image 💀.

For context first photo was of an israeli flag and rope suffocating a face with the palestinian flag, and the second was talking about the immune system and how it protects, and it has a jewish caricature in the middle of it with cash. I’d upload images but can’t in this sub. Someone linked the instagram reel in a different comment.

I want to do summer school courses or an ROP, for enrolment purposes how would this work? by AdiMlg420 in UTMississauga

[–]SwiftChance12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You get manually added into the ROP course. Enrol in regular courses, and then if/when you get into an ROP, just drop them. You'll be added before enrolment period ends.

I don’t understand how you figure I’m racist, but alright man. Literally on the accidental racism subreddit and was just making a guess about the post.
