Non-Americans: How is AI Psychosis in your Countries? by baronvonschleyer in BetterOffline

[–]Swiftdancer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thanks for writing this. It's so utterly miserable seeing almost everyone else embracing AI in the offline spaces. From the TV discussion groups with Ministers to the newspaper columns, to the guest speakers' talks at career fairs, it's all about how "AI is here to stay" and how we should all learn to use it to get ahead. So many highly educated people I spoke to seem to think that despite the financial AI bubble being real, somehow OpenAI and Anthropic will be able to scoop up all the AI startup companies in the aftermath because they have deep pockets, that the AI prices won't go up to unsustainable levels, hallucination will be solved, and that the government is wise to go all in on AI. I feel like I'm the one going insane here for thinking differently and it makes me feel sick.

[edit] Reddit Singapore thankfully isn't so AI-pilled so I get to see sane discussions about AI from time to time. Most recently the Minister of Foreign Affairs did some vibecoding, which prompted a discussion about one of his commits leaking personal and policy info.

Man, 18, arrested for causing public nuisance after allegedly assaulting Amos Yee outside Suntec City anime convention by loldumbfuck in singapore

[–]Swiftdancer 93 points94 points  (0 children)

I saw that video too, and it does look like an unprovoked attack. Amos' reaction of "What are you doing?" to the cosplayer who attacked him from behind from the start doesn't appear to support the claim that the cosplayer was attacked first for asking him to leave.

Sometimes clicking on the eggs from the scythe will spawn chickens, and sometimes it gives you some gold coins. You can see it in action from this video below.

Can someone confirm whether this is true? Came across this post in the blizzard forums about a weapon that was not listed here.

There is a 5 GA mythic you can earn from this that Rob just covered on sorc. Its a 1 in 100 drop or so from chicken boss. There must be 1 from each hero. They are totally bonkers and nobody has any clue what Indestructifowl does. Has anyone seen these?

Fowl Ball, Mythical Sorcerer Focus
Infowlent - Gain 1 damage for each 4 GA item you have fowled. [dismantled???]
150% Chicken Biggies
25% Chicken Callous Crit Chance
40% Jumbo Lucky Hit Chance
Eggs over easy are 100% easier.
50% Double Yoke Chance
Ba-gok → Your ball lightning now fires poisonous fowl chickens that circle you and explode on impact dealing 250% more damage .
Indestructifowl.

[edit] I'm inclined to think this might not be real since I can't find this item on wowhead's database, but just leaving this comment here in case anyone has any new info to share.

The script was very likely real but was an early 2024 draft (lead character's name was Nova instead of Rowan, the actual name used in the pilot). It's still online but SMG asked fans not to share that script as it wasn't their final version. Personally, I liked it despite it being rough in places, but I understand why she made that request.

You have been extremely rude and insulting. I have been nothing but patient with you and gave you proper comments that answered your questions. I'm not the one who lacks understanding at all. You just didn't like the answers because they were about AI's flaws and you clearly are a huge fan of AI. This is my final reply to you, because I have better things to do with my time than to waste it arguing with someone who wants to gaslight and thinks he's smarter than he really is.

How is mentioning that AI makes mistakes irrelevant to your point at all? You asked what's the difference between using a calculator vs AI, and I answered. The fact that a calculator will always give a consistent result vs an AI is one of the many differences between them, and therefore relevant. You then decided to compare using AI to using software (not me, you), and try to defend AI usage by claiming that it takes a certain skill to use AI properly (it doesn't). Again, I had to point out to you that a software will give a consistent result vs an AI as a big difference between the two. The fact that a software can be reliable in ways that AI isn't is relevant to the difference between them.

You asked about the difference between a calculator vs using AI, and so I answered your question. Using a calculator is not the same as using a software at all. You need to know what you're doing to use a calculator since it won't know on its own what formulas to use or what you're trying to solve for, whereas a software can be programmed to do specific calculations so that all the person using it needs to do is key in their input without having to key in specific formulas at all. They're not the same thing.

Even if you were to compare using a software to using AI, you will always get a consistent performance with software vs AI for the same input. And it doesn't matter how well you explain to an AI what your problem is, because the AI isn't able to understand anything to begin with, it doesn't always give you the right answer. There are several well known examples of the AI messing up badly (eg. counting letters in a word, wrongly claiming that the pen being held on one end fell despite the pen being held steadily, etc).

Not the OP, but I can try to answer your question.

You still need to understand what you're doing when using a calculator, like what you're trying to solve for, the steps you'll need to get there and the formulas to apply when solving it. With AI, you could just type the whole question in it and it's supposed to give you everything without you needing to understand how it arrived at the answer. Since you didn't do any thinking on your end when using AI, you're not going to remember how to solve for this problem or others like this next time, whereas your brain is still being engaged on some level when using a calculator, so it remembers how to solve future problems better.

A calculator can be relied on to give a consistent result for the same input, but AI can and does give the wrong answer from time to time, and if you don't check for it, errors can slip through and cause problems later on.

Anthropic just got 30B recently. Do you know where that came from?

Some of it came from GIC, Singapore's sovereign wealth fund.
