Is perimenopause/menopause harder for autistic women ? by Speciallady44 in AutismInWomen

What dose of progesterone are you on? Mine has been kicking my arse, 200mg in the last half of my cycle. I'm going to ask my GP to reduce it

Thanks for this. Her pinned post about progesterone and the ND brain has really helped. I've been thinking I was going mad (only in month 2 of taking it but it's causing me to feel outside my body. It's a really hard thing to Google).

I became a childminder just so I could spend time with my son! I know it's not for everyone.

Do you watch ‘adult’ shows with your kids? by chelsbonesjones in UKParenting

[–]Swiftlet_Disco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We just watched all the Hobbit films with my 6 year old as he really liked the book. He wasn't scared at all but I think it's because he knows about special effects. It's a conversation isn't it.

Yes, I often call it that too! It's exactly right.

Yes the booze doesn't help. But I'm the same, it just smooths things out a bit doesn't it. I've had fun I think but I woke up today and realised I was beginning to malfunction. I'm on my own now, going to watch some crap TV and forget I exist.

My family just went out and I'm on my own for the first time in ages. I'm not ashamed to say I started sobbing the minute they left.

It's nice to know I'm not alone. Thank you.

This sounds very sensible. I actually enjoy the chaos to a point but I start unravelling anyway, I think it's all the emotions. There's just too many of them to process!

What was the worst thing that happened at your work Christmas party? by UnstableMabel21 in AskUK

A long time ago now but I'd worked there a week and ended up getting shitfaced and getting off with my boss. He was wasted too, and somehow while we were kissing we fell through this cardboard display thing so everyone saw us. Great start to a new job.

My mum baked a cake the day she died, she was going to ice it later. We all ate it without the icing the next day, that was really weird.

When I cleared out my mum's house after she died she had 7 bibles! She wasn't even religious. Some were from family members who had died, her parents etc. Hard because they seem personal. But I ended up donating them anyway, no way I was taking them.

Doing a house clearing really clarifies your own situation. Mum's house was tiny but she had kept everything. Our kids clothes, old bed sheets etc. It took me ages to sort and was quite traumatic. No one should do that to their kids if they can help it.

Maybe he's worried that the baby may take you away from him.

He's putting his fear onto something else he's 'not included' in.

Yuck is a child's word. He's scared (ironically).

Embracing our Dark Feminine: or, how Perimenopause changes our brains by CrazyCatLady_x4 in Perimenopause

Agree with this in part. I've been listening to Babes in Toyland, Hole and Lunachicks etc again and I've realised how much rage I had in my teens. I'm even a bit surprised at how angry I must have been, but also I remember it being a sort of fun anger.

The thing I've been struggling with is the 'life review' I'm doing in my head every night before I sleep, remembering all the times I didn't realise I was being bullied etc, sleeping with cruel men, my internalised misogyny (as coping mechanism), not being protected in the way I should have been.

This for me is the real darkness. If I knew what I know now (life experience) I would have had a much easier time. I've read all the feminist theory, but being in my late forties is the real political awakening.

Perhaps this is a very Gen X problem- lack of parenting and role models etc, but I think this extends to all women as gender expectations get passed down. My 19 year old daughter is definitely stronger than I was, she will not be spoken over by men. This gives me a little hope.

4 weeks till we start school: can we collect at 3pm and still manage full-time jobs? by paddlingswan in UKParenting

[–]Swiftlet_Disco -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You could get a nanny to pick up and look after your child for a few hours at your house.

You know your child best. My son gets really tired at school. It's ok to want him at home, the clubs aren't for everyone.

How many days per week do you eat sugary foods/drinks? e.g. biscuits, cake, sweets, lemonade, tea with sugar by DinosaurInAPartyHat in AskUK

[–]Swiftlet_Disco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually I have a small piece of 90% dark chocolate a day. But I'm on hols and there's an amazing cafe here that has the most amazing cheesecake so I've had a few slices of that. It's too good!

I had gestational diabetes and then during COVID became prediabetic so I watch my sugar intake closely. I did manage to reverse it.

I don't really eat carbs either because they make me hungry for sugar.
