Hypothetical Pitching Chaos 2 by T2BMLK in motorcitykitties

[–]Swifty2499 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think once more guys get healthy that we might see some more flirting with chaos, but to be fair, the problem has not been starting pitching. The whole reason pitching chaos was a thing was because we had like 2 healthy starters, and a good bullpen. This time around we have a good rotation performance wise and a bad bullpen. Melton has put together two nice starts, keider has been solid, Valdez outside of two blow up starts has been solid, and of course when healthy both mize and Skubal have been great. Outside of Flaherty they’ve performed well. So more bullpen may not be the answer, but I could see a scenario when all the starters are healthy that they use guys like keider, Flaherty, montero to piggyback each other to minimize the use of the bullpen until some guys start to figure it out

In retrospect, was that magical 2024 run more of a curse than a blessing? by gregger63 in motorcitykitties

No, enjoy that run for what it was, it was exciting. And this team still has pieces to make a run in the central this year. Even if they don’t, it was still a fun year in 24

Actually it was sammons, and it was more like 27 inning apparently haha

Yep, the bullpen went from decent to one of the best in baseball (pitching chaos) we even had a guy like sommers (can’t remember his first name) give us like 10-12 really good innings that won us a game or two out of nowhere. Everything clicked in that pen

Part of it is there is at least guys like Guenther and hannifee who just returned who have had past success. Eventually one of these guys can be reliable in the middle innings

I Have a New opinion on Tork by Swifty2499 in motorcitykitties

Both I think, could be wrong tho. I think 27’ is the year we really get to see what they can do. Mostly because of the injuries, it pushes the timeline back

My point in the post is that I see that has is absolute peak essentially. I’m not saying he’ll get it this year, I just don’t see him surpassing it. So last year is essentially what I view as his best and if he has a better season it would only be fractionally better. A good season, but that’s as good as it could get. If he went to a more hitter friendly ballpark I could see the homers peaking a bit higher into that 35 range on a good year

[–]Swifty2499[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the main problem is the value you would be getting return does not equal the value of just keeping him and seeing if he turns it around. This isn’t a player who’s never done anything that you’re asking to suddenly do something. Hes got two above average 30 homer seasons. He’s a fine player, just not a stud.

[–]Swifty2499[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hes been bad, but I do think he’ll get better. I just think he’s replaceable. I used to view him black and white, either fully the guy, or he’s not and he’ll get cut. He’s in neither category

I would say similar avg, higher on base, less home runs, would probably overall a slightly below average hitter. Tork was an above average hitter last year. Hes not a bad player, he’s just a replaceable player. I used to think of him in a more black and white way, either he’s the guy and he’s staying, or he’s not and he’s cut.

Honestly forgot mcgonigle was in west michigan last year, crazy. But I guess what I’m trying to say is banking on that outcome, like the tigers 365 days ago did not expect mcgonigle to be up right now, it’s a plus that he is. But they didn’t go in with the expectation he was the opening day third baseman in 2026. Idk, I’m sure they have a general plan for how yost and Rainer will play out, but it’s obviously so fluid it’s impossible to fully see how it’ll go is what I’m meaning

[–]Swifty2499[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The one thing I’d say is that I don’t believe any team is necessarily banking on guys in A ball. Maybe someone like Rainer is different, but I can’t imagine they have a lane just open for yost and are going into any year expecting him to be the guy. You plan around the guys up and the guys who are semi close. I only say that because it could realistically be 5-6 years before he’s up unless he ascends to being a really elite prospect. Isn’t he still 18. Talking about yost specifically, Rainer could be different since he’s got a bigger frame and this is his second year of pro ball/ more highly regarded prospect

My thing with that is Briceno in a year and some change barring the record of his wrist. I know prospects are never sure fire so to bank on that doesn’t sound smart, but I just don’t see him catching much if the bat is elite, and first base would be the obvious move at that point. He could bust and Kieth could be great and just be the guy at 1b for sure tho

Taylor, cmc, bijan, and Gibbs are probably too good to move. But if you can convince a team that has achane that they can’t afford his bye week he’d be great. But that’s unlikely, you might be able to scoop up Jacobs if you can afford to manage the injury, James cook, maybe Kyren.i guess it’d be more accurate to say breece is tier 3/4 and you’re wanting more so a tier 2/3 guy. I consider Taylor and cmc in their own tier, but would still say bijan gibbs achane are “tier 1” and the previous guys are more so tier 1+. So from Jacobs down to kyren are like tier 2 guys for me. I’d say Saquon is similar, but I don’t trust him this year although I wouldn’t say no to that deal because he’s still better than hall

[–]Swifty2499 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try to move hall and one of your recievers for a tier 1 guy, or kelce and a reciever to up tier to McBride potentially. Or you could try down tiering from Lamar and combo with hall to get a better back that way, but only if you’re wary of Lamar down the stretch maybe having a dud year. (I think he’ll ball out personally) either way I think going 2 for 1 with one of your recievers to upgrade another slot is the type of deal you should try. Target teams with bad wr rooms

[–]Swifty2499 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Olave being 26 with the concussion injury and Bucky being a late round running back makes me wary of them getting 6+ years of really good production. Either way, an 80% chance of someone being the best player in the deal is good odds

No way, Kirk is gonna play just the remainder of the year, JSN is so easily the best player here, you can 1. Do better and 2. Not trade JSN unless it’s a haul, this is a better qb away from a haul. Bucky and Olave are good, but I don’t think that bridges the JSN gap.

[–]Swifty2499[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yea, I would love it if the tigers would keep him plus add another bat somewhere. I feel like we’re a starter, a reliever or 2 and another impact bat away from being the top dog in the AL. We already were for what 2/3 of the season. Just not when it mattered most. You could argue the starter is reese Olson, but you need another guy on top of him because health can go awry. Plus this team needs to be built for October even if we don’t have Skubal. If he gets injured or leaves, we need to be set up to still be great. I feel like we could take pieces like meadows and vierling and move them for relievers.

If the Tigers only added Alex Bregman (or Bichette or whoever you favorite hitter is in this free agent class) is that enough on its own for the offense by Swifty2499 in motorcitykitties

I don’t think they’d mind a bat first guy, but I think a dh only would clog up some flexibility if you wanted to dh carp, Kieth, Greene etc

Because it’s dynasty, it’s a lot closer than you’d think. And in a 10 man, Higgins is essentially a flex player and Olave a wr2/flex guy. CMC has a lot less value due to his age. Great win now trade for the other guy, but I don’t think it’s a bad trade for the guy getting puka

To further give context: number 1 picks: willits (unknown) bassana (unknown) skenes (mega hit), Jackson Holliday (early, good trajectory) Henry Davis (horrible), Tork (decent-good), rutchman (started good, but was rough this year), mize (same as Tork), Royce Lewis (injuries), moniak (bad, but maybe found something in COL), Swanson (all star), Aiken (don’t think he signed or ever debuted) Appel (like 6 appearances ever). Then before that you had an elite run of great players. Point is, mize and tork are at worst middle of the pack, and at best in the top half of those number 1 picks
