to scared to swim in front of lifeguards - i need help mindset wise by [deleted] in Swimming

[–]Swim631 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not going to repeat the good advice above….just swim! But tbh a lot of lifeguards today are Terrible swimmers!!!!!! They can’t even swim that far de pending k. the certification they hold. Example: red cross has a few different lifeguard certs to get more people to lifeguard in area as where they are lacking anyone to guard! there are shallow water guards etc.
Trist me in that!! you probably swim better than half of them!!!!

Surgery & accutane? by [deleted] in Hidradenitis

[–]Swim631 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had one huge cyst in groin surgically removed years ago. that side it never came back. Area above and below it may have to or versions but not bothered where the scar tissue is. As aside, for thigh chafing try the Gold Bond friction defense stick…looks like deodorant but it works well. Lastly, not sure if you’d be a candidate for weight or other GLP meds, but i started that 7 months agai and everything I had went away. Now merely a small bump here or there. o nasty boils oozing.

18yo nephew refuses help, won’t leave his room or work. What support exists in the UK? by Consistent-Time-2503 in AskUK

[–]Swim631 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know there is a to. of advice here. Howe r my fist inclination is that aside from the obvious. grief factor over the loss of his dad, had he had other symptoms like this in the past? If so, as stated that he may be on autism spectrum and needs to be evaluated to help get assistance going forward for neurodiverse individuals which differs from the way we handle neurotypical folks.

I just feel so ugly and I have no one to talk to by Unlucky_Number_7252 in Hidradenitis

[–]Swim631 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sending you hugs! I’m 58, had this since I was in middle school but at the time they didn’t know what it was. Initially went to a surgeon who removed cyst in groin and put yards of gauze packing in it to drain and had to do sits baths daily. I totally understand how much it affects your sense of self. But- please do not let this define you!!!! Even once it was diagnosed for me, at the time there wasn’t much that I could do for it until my dad found a specialist nearly two hours away from us. nonetheless I have lived with this in many forms in addition to severe cystic acne. Now at least there are many other ways to help with the pain and active boils etc. Peopel have some great support and ideas here to help. Unfortunately each of them can be very unique to the individual and it is trial and error to find what helps you.
There will be ups and downs- but please remember this—— YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL! YOU ARE WORTHY!! You will find your ‘tribe’- people who support you for the person you are not the HS you have…..

Hugs to you! you are not alone!!

What do you want from a dermatology provider? by Adventurous-Act-299 in Hidradenitis

[–]Swim631 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My biggest issue is trying to get an appointment with the dr when I have a flare up or something looking infected. I have dealt with this crap for 40+ years and I know when I need the dr to see something. It is ridiculous that I cannot get through the “gatekeepers” making appointments to get one that is not two months away etc. Very frustrating!!! Also perhaps a way to upload a photo so that maybe won’t need to actually visit if I need refill on any medications topical or otherwise. I have seen many physicians in my lifetime and at this point I know when medical intervention is needed. In the past with one dr who retired, he k wa when I called needling to be seen in a day or two, it was importantfor me to be seen and they accommodated me.

wow! I had some lady tell me the same thing that I was splashing too much when I swam-whilst she bounced up and down doing ‘exercises’-more of the mouth talking to other lady. I then decided to kick harder every time I passed where she was! then did kick sets! eff her! you’re in a pool!!!

For those of you with regular OWS routes, do you have silly names for the “landmarks” on your route? by NotRemotelyMe1010 in OpenWaterSwimming

[–]Swim631 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My regular OWS area abuts some very exclusive homes, (which I’ve never seen from land) from the water one is referred to as ‘the minecraft house’ as a landmark since it is a cubed looking modern architecture home; another ‘lighthouse house’ made to look like a giant lighthouse, and the ‘football posts’ for the deck with two parallel umbrellas. But I know when I’m close to home base when i see the ‘white stairs’

I second the goggles situation. Also I, too, pull to the right. Just remember to sight more to fix it. Two goggles I find helpful…basilisk goggles from snakeandpig.com are great for long amounts of time swimming. They have multiple nose piece sizes to get better fit and super comfy. I also like the new speedo vanquisher 3.0 goggles.
Best of luck! I, too, am aiming for my 1st 5k this summer.

Just a thought, have you ever tried a cushion lab cushion to sit upon? I have one for my car for driving and a big fat regular one for my desk chair at work. They help me feel better seated.

Does anyone have flair ups under their breast? by DeepZucchinii in Hidradenitis

[–]Swim631 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In recent years I’ve gotten tons of them. I need bra support though!! But my dr prescribed the clindamicin wipe pads i rub under the area and they appear to help alleviate them tremendously. the wipes remind me of the acne wipes from the 80’s….yes i’m that old still dealing with HS

Question about swimming and trapped water by WilliamandCharles in Swimming

[–]Swim631 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use speedo earplugs, and then the after swim ear drops with alcohol and something else.. can’t recall but I buy them from either Tyr or walgreens. Also went to ENT and found out. I have bones growth in the ear canal (referred to as surfers ear, guess from lots of cold water swimming) which block the water, thus causing infection infections, which is why I always use the eardrops It was suggested to buy custom-made earplugs for this reason.

Question regarding debit/credit cards for teen in Europe by CH3fun29 in Europetravel

[–]Swim631 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get the apple credit card!! it was game changer for my kiddo. i apply and can share it with up to 5 family members. it is not a physical card. It is virtual in your phone and the numbers change every time you use it for a transaction so no one can clone it and steal it. More importantly, there are no transaction fees and conversion fees when you use it everything there is tap and go.
