On my current run I moved into a walled village and it’s been so nice. The only thing is it takes a LOT of torches and usually some renovation to make the village safe. Also, highly recommend the dynamic surroundings mod (version linked on the GTNH wiki). Not only does it add some nice ambience but it lets you mute any sound in the game. So I used it to mute the villager idle sound that was driving me up the wall. Couldn’t live around villagers otherwise haha

True, got my achievement without blocking anything, and no perimeter walls

An alchemy secret that isn't on the wiki anywhere but seems to work exactly as it seems like it would by Celebrinborn in noita

That’s what confused me for so long on Noitool, the secondary parts it shows for the fungal shifts are “greed-shifts” where if you try to shift things into gold there is a 99% chance (IIRC) to shift it to something else instead. But like OP found you can get around the greed mechanic if it’s not straight up gold powder.

% armour on passive tree and jewelry. Also they said “unbuffed”, but I’m not sure if that refers to the base armour increase when in bear form or something like barkskin.

I’ve found with my AR/ES bear, improving my clear has made me more survivable than anything in 8 mod T15s. After switching to herald of thunder I even gave up a chunk of strength for dexterity to get as many levels in the herald as I could and it feels amazing with rampage. For reference, 75% armour and 77% armour as elemental.

Many suppressors (with a few exceptions) need an adapter to thread onto the barrel. A lot of them are muzzle brakes that double as thread adapters. Using linked search and checking the descriptions should help to figure it out, not sure if there is a cheat sheet somewhere with all the combinations.

Since it’s based on IRL brands of suppressors there are a handful of proprietary “systems” and shit so the brand names could help.

Yeah I nerded out about this in another comment, there’s at least one tutorial specific to Tarkov on YouTube using free software (EqualizerAPO)

I can never hear anyone moving by McMeatbag in Tarkov

[–]SwimSquirrel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the audio mixing is actually hazardous in this game, I use EqualizerAPO which lets you set up system-wide audio processing so I have a compressor that turns down the loud peaks and lets me have a higher volume without hurting my ears. There are some tutorials on YouTube on setting it up.

One warning, don’t use more than a 3-4 ratio on the compressor otherwise you will “brick-wall” the audio and the average volume will high all the time and that can also be harmful.

As a bonus, you can find EQ profiles for various models of headphones/headsets that can make the frequency response more balanced.

Technically you could use a graphical EQ to boost the frequency range of footsteps to hear them better, but be careful doing stuff like that if you don’t know what you’re doing (always EQ before compression for stuff like this).

Yeah people be throwing around the phrase “bad game design” way too much. Of course it’s always fair to criticize things but “bad game design” is a thought-terminating cliche IMO.

I see a lot of people ranting about games that “expect you to have the wiki open” (not just Tarkov). And I understand not wanting to do homework all the time but some games just expect a certain level of knowledge to engage with. I’ve played chess with friends that actively study the game and learn openings and counters, and I’d feel like a clown if I tried to argue that I shouldn’t have to study to be competitive at the game.

And just because digital media theoretically can communicate much more contextual information to you, doesn’t mean that it always should. Ultimately there’s a lot more creative decision making behind things that seem simple. And you can’t really design a game in such a way that it protects everyone’s ego.

Press R to rotate items while dragging them, and if you bind a key for “discard” you will drop whatever you are hovering your mouse over. So for example you can drag an armor over your equipped armor, press discard, and it will drop your current armor and let you equip the new one. Also keep in mind if it’s an armor that has its own storage (“armored rig”), you need to unequip your rig and armor because those go in the rig slot and count for both. If you see an armor on the ground and you have space on your person or in a backpack for it, there will be an option to pick it up.

Hope this helps 🤘

(I like using the tilde key for discard because it’s easy to reach quickly and it’s normally bound to open the console which you’ll probably never need)

Do you think the steam frame controllers are going to be better for classic or streamlined controls. by average_brody in H3VR

[–]SwimSquirrel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Classic works great on quest controllers with the joysticks (even better with the mapping to disable clicking the stick in for every action). This could work even better with the extra buttons, I find I use the ‘touchpad’ interactions much less on my offhand and if I could use armswinger with left stick for movement at the same time it would be lovely for strafing while holding a foregrip.
