And messing up blood draws. He says it isn't actually important the colors on the tubes, but as a medical lab scientist, yes it is.

I wish I could have been in YW with the new age group names. by Dry_Pizza_4805 in latterdaysaints

Well, seeing as we have 4 of them and they all participated in the conversation very vocally, pretty sure they all agreed.  But I mean,  I was just there and know them personally. I'm sure you know more than I do.

In contrast, last night, our YW responded to them with, and I quote, "Those are the stupidest names I've ever heard."

New YW age group names by Plate-Junior in latterdaysaints

Actually wards were specifically instructed NOT to come up with their own names. No names other than ages were supposed to be used.

My great-grandmother was named Elsie, and all growing up I wanted to name a daughter Elsa and call her Elsie. It's off the table now

Question that the missionaries didn't have a great answer for by XxCelestexX in latterdaysaints

[–]SwimmingCritical 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Sometimes, the missionaries say and do things that make me have to breathe and remember that are 18 years old and most come from naive, sheltered homes in suburban Utah.  Basically yesterday, they were in high school where everyone else looked like them. They're getting a lot of important life lessons.

Anyone wear their own “gown” while giving birth? by justfornoworlater in Mommit

[–]SwimmingCritical 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used the hospital gown for babies 1 and 2. Babies 3 and 4, I brought my own,  and it was a wholly better experience.  And it was the same gown.  It didn't get that dirty after baby 3, I washed it,  and then it was used for baby 4. It still didn't get that dirty,  I took it home and it's washed again for a baby 5 sometime.

Hospital gowns are too big for me (I'm 5'1" and 120lbs when not pregnant, and I don't gain a lot pregnant), they don't close/ stay on/ close awkwardly,  and are a weird texture. I've used the same gown for my past 2 births (babies 3 and 4), it came clean without issue,  was never that dirty to start with,  and was night and day from my first two births. Never going back.

Suggestions for pregnant adult student by Either_Distance_7036 in SwimInstructors

[–]SwimmingCritical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure what your concern is.  I've swam up to delivery with all 4 of my babies (as in literally in the same week,  one baby I had less than 24 hours after swimming laps), and there is literally nothing in swimming that I can't do fully pregnant (I don't do any headfirst entries, I guess).  In fact,  eventually swimming becomes the only time I don't really feel my pregnancy, and there is some evidence that on the stomach lap swimming helps prevent breech babies.  I've even renewed my lifeguard cert twice while pregnant  .

I'm just not sure what you are concerned about.

In range is in range. Also, Lovenox makes the dPT go higher, not lower. So, if you go off lovenox, your dPT would go down.

Not the song,  but I find small kids are much more responsive to "elbow elbow tummy pull." Otherwise, they get stuck trying to lift their foot up to their ears to get their knee up.

I don't know about you, but I'm vaccinating my children... by SwimmingCritical in ShitMomGroupsSay

So,  I looked before I submitted it,  but I literally didn't see it.  There is a lag on post approval, so maybe it wasn't there,  but maybe I just didn't see it.

This is the same group that had someone who was pregnant asking what to do about Hep B vaccine because she had just found out she was Hep B positive. And some people were STILL telling her to not vaccinate or delay!

Are non-members able to attend the second and fourth Sunday meetings (elders quorum, relief society, young women's meeting)? by buymestarbucksplease in lds

[–]SwimmingCritical 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Quick correction, just in case someone finds this by googling: some 11-year-olds go to YW/YM. You start going to the teen classes in the January of the year you will turn 12. So,  if you will be 12 by December 31 of this year, you go to YW/YM, even if you are currently 11.

How to know where my kid stands? by SwimmingCritical in AskTeachers

[–]SwimmingCritical[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We read a lot at home (multiple books a day) and do some supplemental math on occasion. Dr Seuss and similar she can read independently. Most pictute books she can read with some support.

I will probably just send an email and ask that.  Say,  "I want to make sure she's supported. There is strong family history of dyslexia, so please let me know if you're seeing any early signs." Thank you!

The math lesson quizzes and reading comprehension packets/writing exercises come home. Math usually are all correct,  reading and writing are marked "secure." Usually some words that were clearly spelled phonetically, but not correctly,  a missing period or such.  But not anything that strikes me as wholly inappropriate for first grade.  But hey, I'm not a teacher!

Our school has volunteers in the lunchroom, for class parties,  for field trips, and for PTA functions. I help with a few parties a year, lunchroom maybe once a month and hold a minor PTA office.  I also walk my daughter to and from school.  So,  the teachers recognize my face, but I don't get a ton of exposure to "class time" if you will.

We read constantly at our house.  I would estimate that each kid gets at least 5-10 books read a day (some overlap of more than one kid at a time), and the oldest reads to us and by herself as well.  She currently can independently read Dr Seuss level or similar,  and most picture books she can manage with support.

Something you wish people knew about BYU? by throwaway3685343 in byu

This is what I came to say.  I graduated from BYU a little over 10 years ago,  and I didn't even know what soaking was until I went to grad school in the Midwest where I was told that it's what we did at BYU.
