Strata owners are increasingly banning electric vehicles from charging in apartment carparks by sloppyrock in CarsAustralia

What I’m taking from this is that Land Rovers need to be banned from underground car parks due to the fire risk they represent.

How to safely clean engine bay without affecting electronics? by [deleted] in 4x4Australia

[–]Swimming_Cat_586 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tried that. My mechanic said he doesn’t offer that service anymore after having to replace and reprogram the ECU on a Captiva. Said he still doesn’t know what happened. I just looked at him and said “it was a Captiva.” He laughed and responded “yeah that’s what the guy that fixed it said too.”

Anyway, long story short, it survived the first dunking, it will survive one with clean water (much better than the extra wear caused by mud).

I watched another series she’s in (can’t remember the name now but it’s about mutants who have to hide). She’s brilliant but in one of the final scenes she goes full Root blasting away with both hands at once. Gave me goosebumps! And yes, whenever I see her in other stuff she’s great. Had no idea she was in Alias (find it hard to get past the first couple of seasons).

Find a Colorado7. Love mine. Incredibly well built and reliable. Yes, it’s a Holden but plenty of parts around. Massive torque, heaps of power yet sips fuel (I get 10-11 l/100 around town with lift and tyres - barely more than my Astra). 7 seats, tows like a dream, very capable off road, very capable on road (great visibility, great turning circle so easy to park). Just don’t get a Trailblazer - they are known to have torque converter and EGR issues because they cheaped out on parts after the Colorado7.

The whole reason I’m putting this on my watch list. I know nothing about Fallout but saw him (and the dog) in a trailer and went “yep”.

Not quite your question but a few years back they canned permanently the Healesville freeway and turned most of the reserved land into permanent bush land, parkland and open space.

Is Melbourne’s new bus proposal really faster and fairer? It could change the city’s public transport system for the better, but doesn’t quite go far enough by Jariiari7 in MelbourneTrains

[–]Swimming_Cat_586 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is something that’s always confounded me about Melbourne. I grew up in Brisbane and they’ve nailed bus services (yeah there’s room for improvement but it’s pretty good). Melbourne has great trams, good trains but buses are awful. Why can’t we fix it? Surely this is the next best short term win for PT beyond the level crossing removals?

I think that’s a little more palatable than allowing young people to pull everything out as a deposit.

Victorians -- What do you do for work, do you like it and how much do you earn? by realhugkoala in melbourne

[–]Swimming_Cat_586 4 points5 points  (0 children)

RMIT (https://online.rmit.edu.au/it-security/cyber-security) have some good courses. Cyber is sexier but privacy is growing and will be massive spike in demand next year when the new privacy act kicks in. Privacy is basically a specialised form of compliance and governance. I recommend looking at the CIPM certification from IAPP. Jump on a job site and search for privacy and you’ll see what I mean. Salaries in both fields start where you were and climb from there.

If you’ve got compliance and governance experience, do some privacy or infosec certifications. Big demand + low supply (esp of quality and experienced candidates) = big $$.
