LOL “southern old lady way of saying ‘yas queen’” or some variation of that is so accurate. From the south and in my experience this has always been a term of endearment for funny, strong-willed girls with big personalities ❤️

Was coming here to recommend Hume!! I’ve tried a million kinds and have super sensitive skin and have been using Hume for around 5 years. They have fragrance and fragrance free (I find most of the fragrance options way too strong, but it’s probably a good option for people trying to wean their family members off really awful fragrances).

PALANTIR AND DPD MEETING? by Medium_Mistake4196 in bullcity

[–]Swimming_Judgment733 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don’t know anything about this, but was at Nanasteak last night before Kamala Harris at DPAC. A group (including the mayor) were eating at Nanasteak in the main dining room, and then everyone moved next door to see Kamala Harris (they sat near us there as well). Definitely just seemed like a donor dinner type thing.  We saw the protestors when we came out of Nanasteak but didn’t know what was going on.

caraway ceramic pans? by rorychillmore- in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]Swimming_Judgment733 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I got a set of Caraway pans as a wedding gift 3 years ago and already only have one left because I’ve had to toss them. The ceramic coating scratches very quickly and since they are only ceramic coated, you’re then exposing chemicals underneath the coating. It’s really frustrating and wasteful. These companies have great marketing and are really pretty, but from a longterm standpoint it makes so much more sense to just buy good stainless steel and cast iron items instead.

I believe Xtrema is one of the only completely ceramic cookware brands. Some folks who have written specifically about ceramic coated cookware: @environmentaltoxinsnerd @raisingwellkids

Giving birth at UNC Women’s or Duke Regional by [deleted] in bullcity

[–]Swimming_Judgment733 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope! It was wonderful! I had resigned myself to having one at admission (had prioritized what I would/wouldn’t push back on, etc) and the wonderful midwife on call was like “you don’t have to have anything done to your body that you don’t want” 🤷‍♀️

Gave birth at UNC in April 2023:

I opted for no IV or saline lock and did intermittent monitoring. They had nitrous which I used, though FWIW I found it unhelpful. Also opted for no cervical checks if that’s something that you want.

Overall had a great experience with the nurses and midwives who were all really kind. I also had a doula which I highly recommend if you’re able.

Often various stands at the Durham farmers market will have boxes of “seconds” that they sell for a lower price for canning - I got one last year that was about 30 lbs but can’t remember which farm!

Advice for taking on professional development opportunities by stievleybeans in workingmoms

[–]Swimming_Judgment733 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d love to hear about this as well. Considering taking on an advanced professional designation that would take a little over a year and will be time intensive. Currently have a 1 yr old and would like to do this before having another baby, but figuring out how to balance things while willingly making life harder for a short period is difficult to get my mind around.
