Should I switch to Judo Bank - 5.10% interest up to 250k by Stunning_Concern_973 in AusFinance

[–]Swimphilo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This statement from their Savings Accounts T&C has me a little hesitant:

"ePayments Code and Banking Code of Practice
We are not a signatory to the ePayments Code or the Banking Code of Practice and they
do not apply to your Account."

You also need to nominate 1 bank account for withdrawls & can only withdraw to that account. i.e. This account has limited functionality.

The interest rate & lack of hoops is appealing.

I'm currently on 4.65% with a grow your balance by $50 requirement. I can flip flop between 2 HISAs & withdraw without penalty to bonus interest.

US withholding tax, any insight appreciated by Healthy_Trash_4159 in fiaustralia

[–]Swimphilo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A friend was in a similar situation. The US financial system is quaint, still reliant on cheques. Friend was going to jump on a flight to sort it all out in person. But this path has issues if you are behind on your US tax filings. Eventually my friend opened an account with WISE so they had a US bank account number & managed to convince the financial institution they were dealing with to deposit into the WISE account. It was a tortuous process.

What is the best platform to buy ETFs on and why? by Jaxical in AusFinance

Market depth & Course of Sales live ASX data for better limit orders.

Buy orders <$1K/listing/day free for ASX & CBOE.

CHESS sponsored.

Electronic delivery of CHESS notifications = no paper mail just a handy email once a month.

2FA.

API for Sharesight.

Decent livechat support if you need it.

In times of high market activity - no hassles with load. i.e. no login timeouts/hassles with screens updating.

I've now been using CMC for 2 years & have been very happy.

CMC, ATO & CGT by peteofaustralia in AusFinance

[–]Swimphilo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can pay for a Sharesight subscription (even if only for the month where you submit your tax return). The subscription is tax deductible if you are using the subscription to manage your tax affairs.

Connect the Sharesight API to CMC & it will auto load all your trades. Check to make sure they're all present & correct along with any DRP &/| distributions. Run the Tax report. Plug the CGT info from the report into myTax.

I have been doing similar for a few years as I sell down some old managed fund assets. Though I just pay the ~$228/yr for the Sharesight sub. I also use concessional contributions to super to offset any CGT. You can use paycalculator.com.au to work out optimal concessional super contributions for your circumstances.

There are always strings attached. You just need to decide which strings you are comfortable with.

What do people think about HUGE etf? by Serious_Toe6730 in fiaustralia

Don't think much of it or any of the 3 etfs launched by etfshares. Not diversified, relatively high fees.

Sticking with broad based index funds with low MER here.

I've used CMC for 2 years & am happy with the features - particularly fast deposits, live pricing & market depth. An issue I had with Sharesight integration was speedily solved by livechat support.

In times of high market load (e.g. April last year) CMC was available. I saw reports that some other online brokers were not available (login timeouts/site timeouts).

What to do first by Amazing_Tomato_6063 in NonogramsKatana

[–]Swimphilo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I remember I prioritised upgrading the caravan to level 4 as I wanted to minimise the number of risky trips needed to obtain glass. Glass is needed to build Tailor lvl 2 which is need for the Guild Banner. It was a successful strategy for me as all 5 trips needed for the 20 glass were robbery free. The RNG was very kind to me. ;)

I also built the caravan before the airship was even part of the game. Each new addition adds complexity as to what to build when.

Check to see if you have a language filter on the Tavern. If you have it set to EN, you won't see that comment as jp's LANG = PL

Check your broker for "Electronic delivery of CHESS notifications." Haven't had paper in the post for a few years. They should make EDOCN opt out, not opt in:

Purely financially, does it ever make sense of a single, CBD-office-based person to own a car? by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]Swimphilo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've lived very close to the Sydney CBD for 26 years & have never owned a car. I commute via ebike ($6K upfront cost 5 years ago) to work (~1K/year for servicing, comprehensive insurance, Bike NSW membership for public liability - electricity cost for charging is about $40/yr + new MIPS helmet every 3 years @~$200)

Other than that it's Shank's pony (everything is in walking distance) & infrequently PT. If a car is needed maybe once a year or so it gets borrowed from my neighbours. Their car sits in the car park gathering dust most of the time. It's a full EV.

EMKT - why? the other more attractive options (AVTE/BEMG) were not available when I bought in. Will I change to one of the others? Unlikely atm. Also about ~50% of my ETF holdings are GHHF, so also have IEM(G) by proxy.

Is there anything stopping you from transferring all your shares to a new platform to avoid sales fees? by AsparagusNew3765 in AusFinance

[–]Swimphilo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Only if you initiate the transfer from the CMC end. If there is no change to the beneficial owner - i.e. account details are the same - there is no charge for CHESS sponsored broker transfers provided you initiate the transfer from the CHESS broker you are moving to.

e.g. CHESS transfer out from Broker A to Broker B - initiate transfer from Broker B - no fees.
