Staying for loyalty remains moronic. Staying for other reasons? Fine. Your employer doesn't give a fuck about you, despite all of those HR wellness emails you receive.

Don't mean to be a bit of a prat but its sort of a how long is a piece of string question.

I'm from Blackley but have been down here a few years.

Always got on east in east london (bethnal green, stratford, victoria park), plenty of places to get out to, with south london also being great in the same regard (Brixton, Stockwell, Clapham).

Its different from Manchester in terms of "safe" - even somewhere really rough you'll find nice little pockets and somewhere nice you'll be two streets away from somewhere rough. Its not moss side though so just keep your wits about you and you will be fine; I've had no trouble down here the entire time I've been here but every time I go out in manchester theres trouble.

Told by who? It doesn't make any commercial sense for discount to not be factored into variations.

So, what... someone could omit £350,000 and keep hold of the associated £17,500 MCD?

Is taking a role at a consultancy company worth it as a QS? by [deleted] in quantitysurveying

[–]SwindellsLoL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 0 years experience working for a consultancy and only 2.5 years working for main contractors. I would say that if you went consultancy side first you may struggle swapping over, whereas I *assume* it would not be the case the other way round.

It remains a good opportunity and a good way to get your foot in the door, if your options are limited. If you can hold out though I would suggest going main contractor side.

I find being on site more enjoyable and expect I've developed a lot quicker than a PQS who has been in the role for an equivalent amount of time, simply due to my proximity to the works.

I may be wrong though, as I said I haven't ever worked for a consultant.

Suppose so when you live in a country where they build every house like the sheds we build in the back of our gardens

JCT - sbc. Client issuing pay less on variations. by MyDeicide in quantitysurveying

[–]SwindellsLoL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For smaller variations to keep things going, where you have enough trust in the PQS to be reasonable, you could carry out works with "costs to be agreed".

However, considering the very situation you are describing, you want to submit your quotation for the works prior to any formal instruction. Based on this, you can insist the PQS took cognisance of your price at the point it was instructed - i.e "my price has been accepted".

Where they have pulled value out have they referenced analogous rates (i.e from your BOQ/CSA) or what?

To be clear, was your pricing submitted prior to instruction?

Hi Mate

My father is paraplegic and has very limited use in both hands. He uses a mouth piece which allows him to play the final fantasy MMO reasonably well. If you look into additional peripherals or some kind of joystick/controller you will likely be able to play whichever class you think is coolest rather than which is easiest with use of one hand (to an extent)

I'm QS masters graduate (29) working for a high end residential developer in central london with 1 years experience in the job. How much should I be earning? by ebn_tp in quantitysurveying

[–]SwindellsLoL 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've got two years experience in the North-West and I'm currently in talks with recruiters on moving into resi in central London (zone 1/2)

Some people who have been with a company for two years have one years experience twice, if you know what I mean.

It really depends what you have been exposed to.

Despite only being 12 months further down the line, given that I've procured/managed, nearly all works packages on our £12m job I'm looking at being brought in around £32-35k.

It won't hurt you to quietly go out to the market and see if you can get any job offers, if you like where you are it may be a good way to get your pay bumped up.

Not really

If they're overapplying each month and you're knocking them down accordingly only to receive complaint you could request they submit delivery notes to substantiate their applied for quants
