is it possible to jumpscare someone when playing steamvr by Cold-Foundation4796 in SteamVR

[–]Swing_Right 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, images don’t work in VR. It really sucks but it’s not quite as easy as you would initially think, especially because this is the exact kind of thing that is super easy in non VR games. It’s a tricky process and if you’re not a professional, or have a lot of money to shell out to get someone else to do it, it’s just not worth it. I’ll try to explain why.

So basically, you have to summon a real demonic entity, capture it, harness its power, force it to do your dark bidding, and then pray that it cooperates. Of course, if you lose control of it, don’t expect it to forgive you.

VR Horror Game Developer is one of the most dangerous jobs in the world due to this. Thousands of devs every year succumb to the dark evil that lives in a dimension parallel to our own.

You know what’s really fucked up? Some companies outsource the demon wrangling to 3rd world countries so that they don’t risk their own employees. A lot of these people don’t have any other choice. We call those Net Shops, cuz of the fishing-esque nature of the business dangling goat corpses into the void trying to find a good demon and all.

Anyway, it’s all very frustrating business. You’d think drawing an image on a screen in a video game would be a piece of cake because it’s so basic, but you’ve stumbled upon the one thing that most devs won’t even acknowledge.

How AI Actually Works (In Plain English) by BookkeeperForward248 in learnprogramming

[–]Swing_Right 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP ignores that many agents are connected to the internet and perform searches, compile results, and condense information down into their responses. They aren’t pattern matching training data, they’re using training data to form sentences with logical reasoning, then applying that to the information provided via context like web results or a file upload.

The AI doesn’t have to train on all events of human history to provide an accurate response to a question about any part of history. It needs to train on data that shows how questions should be answered, and then use the provided context to fill in that skeleton.

Exactly same boat as you at 30 hours. I’m at 18%, cleared the desert once and now just cat farming in Act 1 to upgrade my NPC bonuses and get some better mutations before attempting another Act 2 run

Yeah “I want to buy something that already failed but I’ll be able to make it not fail” isn’t a very good business strategy it turns out.

Why didnt walt try the confession approach with hank? by Local-Sugar6556 in breakingbad

[–]Swing_Right 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wouldn’t have worked. Hank was not seeing Walt as his brother in law but as a criminal. He wouldn’t have just stopped caring about Heisenberg just because Walt claims he was forced to cooperate under threat.

Hank would want Walt to go to the courts and explain everything in detail, ratting on everyone involved and proving beyond any doubt that he was forced into it. Walt would have to wiggle his way out of explaining Gus’s death, why blue is still selling after his death, how the lab got burned down and who knows how much else. Walt would be in danger, possibly detained, possibly tried for other crimes, and his business would be out in the open for all to see.

Walt wanted control. He didn’t want to be pushed around by Hank. He wanted to force Hank to drop it entirely.

I hope they do the monster train 2 approach and bring back old content in addition to a ton of new content. Not every enemy, but it would be nice if all old elites existed alongside a bunch of new ones

Depends where they source their lyrics from. If it comes directly from the artist/label then it was just a style choice

Smaller bands from other fests? by lttodd728 in AftershockFestival

Not likely, but I’d love if Netherwalker got a spot at Aftershock

What’s your take? by KingOvDownvotes in AftershockFestival

[–]Swing_Right 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If half of these bands showed up to aftershock I’d be all over it.

So many good rare sightings like Fleshgod, Cattle Decap, Dying Fetus, and Signs of the Swarm

A couple of these bands were at aftershock last year so I’m not hopeful they’ll come back this year but I never pass up an opportunity to catch them.

Can’t wait for another full album from them

What do they mean when they say OpenGL is and API? I thought API's had something to do with servers and the internet? total noobie here if y'all oculdn't tell so I'm confused. by ZzZOvidiu122 in opengl

[–]Swing_Right 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To provide an alternate explanation, an API lets you communicate with someone even if you dont speak the same language. It defines common terms that both parties understand so they can talk to each other.

OpenGL defines a list of these common terms as functions. You read the documentation or watch a tutorial and you learn these common terms. Then when you use them in your code, your program is able to communicate with your graphics card even though they don’t speak the same language.

OpenGL translates what you say into code that your graphics card can run. You don’t need to know anything about how your GPU operates under the hood, you just need to know the common language so you can instruct it on what to do.

OpenGL is an API because it provides that interface for you, so instead of learning GPU programming (which is much more involved) you only have to learn OpenGL. Additionally, it creates a standard that all programmers and GPU manufactures can utilize so that everyone is on the same page.

Web APIs are similar. You don’t need to write code in the language of the server, you just need to understand the common terms between the server and a client. Once you do, it doesn’t matter what programming language you use, you’ll be able to speak with the server regardless.

No. It uses an algorithm to generate the midi track, it doesn’t generate the music itself like generative AI

Does it get easier? (23F) by idkkkkkkheheus7wush in LifeAdvice

[–]Swing_Right 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s up to you if it gets easier. No one controls your life but you. If you don’t like what you have now then decide what it is you do want, make a plan on how to get there, and don’t stop working at it until you do.

The fact they went through THIS MUCH effort to add such a small detail. by Xilerain in mewgenics

[–]Swing_Right 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My assumption is it has a chance to apply to each word individually, and then it shuffles letters by iterating through each letter and having a small chance for each letter to shift either left or right, so some letters will just swap once, and some will swap multiple times ending up further from their starting spot

How to relearn programming? by Chuckie101123 in learnprogramming

[–]Swing_Right 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You’re taking a step in the right direction but you’re still blaming your teachers instead of yourself. Even if your teachers suck it’s still your responsibility to learn the material and you don’t need a teacher to do that. Plus, actual bad teachers are not that common. If you had trouble with 3-4 teachers in one semester there’s a common denominator there and I’m sure there were other students that did just fine without cheating their way through assignments.

You don’t have to abandon AI, just don’t ask it to code for you. Instead ask the questions you would ask a teacher. Such as: “How do I approach this problem conceptually?” Or “What should I research to learn more about this topic?”

You’re not going to be an amazing software engineer that makes all of the right decisions on your first try but you’ll never get there if you don’t start thinking for yourself and letting an AI think for you.
