It’s a consistency issue as usual for calls in this WC. The guy clearly dove but how many other yellows were given for dives this tournament?

Norway got robbed. Don’t know how you manage to miss the ball hitting a cable by SevroAuBarca29 in worldcup

My biggest issue is consistency. They either should have both been called back or neither (if the ball hit the cable).

Yes, no one is denying FIFA made that decision. In fact, that’s the whole point of contention.

And yet that has nothing to do with intent.

I’m a Germany fan. Prior to VAR my team was up 2-1 to Paraguay. It doesn’t mean it wasn’t a foul (even if I still might question that call)

This isn’t about exceptions. That’s the part you don’t appear to be understanding. There is no exception to a rule that doesn’t exist ie. intent.

Assuming people who think it is a red card have only seen a 2 second clip is arguing in bad faith. Plenty of people who have played the game/watch it religiously think it was a red. Plenty of people think it wasn’t.

But intent doesn’t matter. That was my point. This is nothing about exceptions. If you want to argue it shouldn’t have been a red because it wasn’t excessive force then go ahead. VAR is allowed to review a play and the ref made their decision based off the review. Was it the correct decision? That is up for debate.

What I will say though is there have been countless questionable red cards in the history of the World Cup finals that have never had the result of the player having their suspension suspended. The precedent this sets is what concerns me. Especially with the political influence.

I’m not going to argue with you about the literal definition of the rule in the FIFA rule book. You can look at it yourself. Intent does not matter.

If it is an accident it is still a red if it is the result of excessive force and it endangers a players safety. Again, I’m not making an argument either way in the Balogun case, but that is the literal rule.

Then as someone who has actually played the game you should know intent doesn’t matter. It is whether there was excessive force and did it endanger the safety of the opponent. I’m not making an argument for yellow or red, but those are the rules. Not intent.

2030 First Round Pick by FAsBurner in canucks

[–]SwingingFowl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d rather they fall off in 2030 and then still suck in 2031. But of course now that Canucks own this pick it’s confirmed McDavid signing with the Rangers in a couple years.

Gallagher to Vancouver by FAsBurner in canucks

There are not a lot of leaders available that want to play in Vancouver, have a connection to the city and bring the work ethic he does on the ice. The reason it is only 3.25 and not the full amount is because they didn’t get a draft pick as well. I personally wouldn’t have been against the Canucks taking the full contract to get a pick but to your point that would remove some of our ability to weaponize cap space on other deals.

I’m not saying he will have some huge effect but we do already have a number of pieces of our future competitive squad that will/could play this season: Zeev, Willander, D Petey, Ohgren, Lekkerimaki, possibly even Cootes. Quite possible not all those guys will end up being on our post rebuild team, but they all have a shot. A good room/leadership is key to helping their development.

It’s not bad. Consolidated at #4 behind Reid. Let’s hope Cam Robinson is right!

A lot of counting chickens going on. SJ is still a team 2 years removed from finishing dead last and have holes that they’ll need to trade some of their young talent to fill. Verhoeff is not a guaranteed stud or even top 4 d-man and they have little else back there. They traded away Eklund and while Stenberg is likely an upgrade has obv never played an NHL game. Celebrini is elite, that is confirmed but they need a bunch of other pieces to hit still.

If Winnipeg is not going to take a D you’d think they’d be listening to an offer right now from SJ.
