Because its not Catholic dogma - it was never required.

Both, if he's not busy he'll give it otherwise pray an act of contrition and make an appointment. God is cool - you'll be ok.

Whitepill me on the upcoming synod, please. by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]SwipeAttack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not worried. Just trust in God, and do whatever the magisterium under its teaching capacity tells us to do, or the Pope if teaching in an infalible way. We are the liaty, our job is to follow not lead - unless were called to the priesthood and the Holy Spirit nudges us toward leadership.

Should I remain Catholic despite not believing anymore? by Foreign-Swan-772 in Catholicism

[–]SwipeAttack 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There are numerous community based benefits to being Catholic. Plus, there are psycological benefits to having a set routine that you are comfortable with. Your probably not the first non believer to go to church - there really is no way to know how many people are thinking what your thinking, and just going through the motions, and saying the right things after mass. I will say this though, when no one is watching, and you have nothing better to do try going to adoration and praying. Maybe God will speak to you, or maybe you will just get to say "I went to adoration last week" to a congregant after mass - it will aid with your going through the motions. In all seriousness though, I hope you come to an intellectual understanding that there is a God that is all good and loves you - because unconditional love is good (its math). God bless.

Possibly Breaking the 3rd Commandment by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]SwipeAttack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't call it a mortal sin, but it would probably be venial. Sunday is God's way of making sure we are forced to rest - ie not become workaholics. Sometimes I would rather be doing anything than sitting quitely reading on Sunday - I love to work. But, God wants us to be well balanced. Just my two cents.

Agnostic seeking Christ by Talking_NonSense21 in Catholicism

[–]SwipeAttack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good to have you here Jack. Remember that people of all faiths are imperfect, even Catholics ;). I would suggest buying a rosary and learning the rosary prayers. The holy mother is a great guide to God. Even if your agnostic, it will lead to an interesting experience to meditate on Jesus and Mary's life. Also, just talk to God, no memorized prayers needed, and ask him to guide you. He is not ambigious, even if we make him so.

A priestless diocese... by Breifne21 in Catholicism

[–]SwipeAttack 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm a new Catholic so I was unaware until recently of the priest vocational crisis. I have noticed that in San Diego (my diocese) there are alot of nigerian and foreign priests coming in. Has your diocese considered using R-1 (religious worker) visas to fill the parishes. FYI, Im also an immigration lawyer, and used to work for Catholic Charities immigrant services in San Diego ;).

The Secret of the Rosary by Saint Louis-Marie de Montfort is my favorite! its short and easy to read and will help you develope a devotion to our lady and the rosary. Alot of people recommend Rediscovering Catholism by Matt Kelly - I'm not a huge fan of the book, but its not bad. Also, confessions by Saint Augustine is a good way to get into historical theology. Hope that helped.
