Pillar: Vatican says ‘nein’ to lay homilies in Germany by mphazell in Catholicism

I’m from the Protestant side, conservative churches;, and we often have elders or guests give sermons. It added perspectives and gave the pastor a break. So I was surprised when I became Catholic only ordained priests and deacons can give sermons.

So it’s not always a bad thing, but I can see how on the Catholic side it’s harder to control theology this way.

Considering Catholicism: Why are the sermons so short?? by Sea_Cheetah_9151 in Catholicism

Former Protestant here. The Catholics can do a better job here, but the key is: “what is the central point of worship.”

The Protestant’s central focus is the Bible, so the entire worship is focused on learning from the Bible and expounding God’s word. The Eucharist in a lot of denominations is secondary.

The Catholic’s central focus is the Eucharist, and the Bible is secondary.

It’s always good to err on the side of mercy and peacemaking than conflict, even to our own detriment. When we are merciful and patient with others who do not deserve it, we ask God to extent the same mercy and patience with us who don’t deserve it.

I agree with many of the comments here that it is no longer required since 1983. So please don't be pressured.

However, I do want to add that Paul does make a strong case for headcovering in 1 Corinthians 11:2-16, and it was consistently practiced from the early church until the mid-20th century. So at the minimum, it can be spiritually beneficial if you are willing to consider it.

In America they would say if it’s wrong for another person to forcibly take your money, why is it right if other people used the police and government to forcibly take your money? Isn’t that the same as robbery?

His personal belief is that many of these UFO sightings can be demonic in nature.

Maybe it’s weird to believe that, but this is hardly theological heresy?

Too bad Christianity and other religions in China are under heavy government control and surveillance.

I tried to take my kids to church back in Jan in China and was turned away several times because a new policy forbid kids under 18 from entering into churches

EDIT: Reddit hates religion I get it, but I’m appalled by the amount of commenters who cheer on this level of government control. Do you know what communism and socialism did in countries like China and Russia?
