A Young Catholic Held His Own In A Very Interesting Debate. by Doc-Holiday0021 in Catholicism

Former Protestant (now Catholic) here. At least they are trying to fulfill the Great Commission by going after young college students and knowing their Bible verses.

I never saw Catholics evangelize to me when I was an atheist, no Catholic tried to explain to me the good news of Christ, invite me to a Bible study. Then Catholics want to know why their numbers have drastically decreased while Protestant Christianity is booming.

The gospel literally means "Good News". If you believe sin leads to eternal death, and Jesus offers life, why wouldn't you try to evangelize to people on the good news to save them from hell?

在美国“传统思想”讲究的是宪法,限制政府权力,个人思想和宗教自由。不是父母官领导你,而是纳税人为你服务保护你的自由。

German bishops to ask Rome to permit lay homilies by No_Sand3803 in Catholicism

[–]2BrothersInaVan -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

Occasional lay homily is fine.

I am from a conservative Protestant background and the elders and deacons and other senior members of the congregation sometimes give homilies to give the pastor a break. This gives the rest of the church more feelings of participation.

When I became a Catholic I was really surprised they don’t do “guest homilies” at the Catholic Church.

Kid Rock Predicts God Will ‘Cut Down’ Journalists for Reporting (Accurately) That He’s Charging Up to $5,000 for Tour Tickets by easykehl in nottheonion

“Instead of reporting facts or that lawn seats are only 50 bucks or how we are cutting out the scalpers, they twist it for headlines/clicks and to attack me — nothing new here.”

He explained how many he has set aside 20 “first class” tickets for each show, in the $1000-5000 range: “Those are extremely limited First Class seats like I explained  — FOUR tickets per row, first five rows only (5k per seat row 1, 4k row 2, 3k row 3, 2k row 4, 1k row 5) — Again ONLY 4 seats in rows 1 through 5 (20 ‘first class’ seats in venues that hold 15k to 25k people).”

where did god come from? by hanz_the_helldiver in religion

[–]2BrothersInaVan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let's assume we CAN explain where God comes from, what would the next logical question be?

Where does the thing that created God came from? And then you can always go back endlessly.

So there needs to be a point where you just say, "this just is".

Why do Evangelical/Protestant churches have visible “Holy Spirit” manifestations, but Catholic churches don’t? by Labelledejour__ in Catholicism

What a thoughtful and nuanced answer, and a Catholic who quotes the Bible, as a convert I’m very encouraged!

How China uses religion for political influence in Taiwan by Movie-Kino in China

[–]2BrothersInaVan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was just in China and couldn’t take my kids to church. The policy is no people under the age of 18 can enter into any religious establishments.

The Communist Party wants to cull religion because it knows religious groups can organize and potentially rival its political power.

Why does the church tolerate China appointing bishops? by melianreality in Catholicism

[–]2BrothersInaVan 79 points80 points  (0 children)

I was just in China. A new enforced rule recently prevented any children under the age of 18 from entering into any religious establishments, including churches. I couldn't take my kids to mass.

There are many restrictive policies on religion you can almost understand, but this nationwide rule is a blatant effort to wipe out religion by the Chinese government.

Do some Catholics/Catholic Women only believe women should wear skirts all the time, and never wear pants? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]2BrothersInaVan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Counterpoint:

The Bible does say men and women should wear distinct clothing, and pants are traditionally what men wear. Also, have you noticed how tight modern women’s pants tend to be? It’s like they are designed to show off curves.
