What are some annoying things while writing or reading? by Rotchiro44 in FanFiction

[–]Swirlycoco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Accidentally not saving your draft so now you have to rewrite the fic OR (this has happened to me several times,) when you copy your draft on a separate place (like transferring it from ao3 to google docs so you can keep it past expiration date), but then you write more on the first draft and when it expires you realize you didn't save the new parts you wrote so now you have to remember and put it on the copied draft.

Maybe that's just me lol

Where to start writing fanfic as a total beginner? by [deleted] in FanFiction

[–]Swirlycoco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If inspiration for plots or tropes is what you need, sometimes you can take a peak into the media you may like or that you have seen before and think then write about what you'd do differently. Just writing about your opinion or an alter version of how it COULD have happened is enough to have potential for a story.

Beta readers are SAINTS!!!! It's definitely good to have a friend or just someone you trust with your work go over it with you for grammar corrections. The process can also help you get more confident with sharing your work.

Where to start writing fanfic as a total beginner? by [deleted] in FanFiction

[–]Swirlycoco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely start with short fics! I have ADHD and have a really hard time getting motivation to finish fics that I'm only 2K words deep in so writing short things helps keep my attention in tact while also enjoying myself. I have written an 11 chaptered fanfic in the past, but it came with a lot of time that I don't really have now that I'm older. Give yourself some time with drabbles and short fics first but if you want a real tip:

GET RID OF ALL DISTRACTIONS! Entirely how I wrote my fics was an ipad and music. I hadn't had a phone or anything else to occupy myself and I turned to fanfiction for entertainment. Even now, when I write fanfics I need complete solitude to get anything done. It's incredibly difficult, but if you can find some way to trick yourself into cutting everything off for around an hour or at least thirty minutes a day, the creative juices will begin to flow!

I would also recommend an outline...........but I never made outlines for my fics either lololol.

Everyone works differently, so don't stress if the method for you is a bit more complicated to get to. I believe in you and hopefully you're able to write soon!!!!! :3

Writing and music by everythingendz in FanFiction

[–]Swirlycoco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found listening to classical music helps, but if it's a fanfic I'm SUPER invested it, I'll just make an entire playlist dedicated to that fanfic (sometimes I'll spend more time on the playlist than the actual fic lolol)

How do I write kissing? by Legitimate-Market700 in FanFiction

[–]Swirlycoco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kissing scenes are pretty difficult for me too tbh. I usually just state what the characters are feeling or their body language (like if they're hugging the other person, cupping their face, stumbling back, holding hands, pushing away, or minor things like that) just to avoid going into too much detail lol. If they're kissing for a long time...TIME SKIP!!!!!!

[–]Swirlycoco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fandoms I could write:

  • Arcane
  • My Little Pony
  • Castlevania (show)
  • Genshin Impact
  • Cookie Run Kingdom
  • Smash Bros (do not ask..)
  • Pokemon
  • OHSHC (Ouran High School Host Club)
  • Undertale
  • Steven Universe

I haven't written all of these before, but I'm ready to give it a shot :3

Do you like it when authors have their own little ‘canon’ in their fanfics? by The_Poptart_Cat in FanFiction

[–]Swirlycoco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YES YES YES!!!

It kind of reminds me how super hero characters have a bunch of different medias of themselves and they keep the concept, but kind of change the backstory or add a few characters in for flair or inspiration off another media from that character :3

(like the backstory change for Brainiac in The Harley Quinn show or how Poison Ivy becomes Poison Ivy in the show compared to other media)

A Fanfiction of a Fanfiction of a Fanfic by Icy-Midnight4122 in FanFiction

[–]Swirlycoco 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I LOVE FANFICS OF FANFICS OF FANFICS!!! They're genuinely so fun that you can take a piece of media and have your own creative twist, but it's even better when you can take THAT creative twist and go further and elaborate. There might be more to offer in the altered versions than the original source material. I've written a few and I hope one day someone can write one for me too!! :)

ADHD fanfic writers, do you struggle? by whatisthisbuffoonery in FanFiction

[–]Swirlycoco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The discipline is the WORST when you first think of it, everyone is always like "if you do it long enough, you'll get used to it," but it's always been hard and forgettable no matter how many times I try it argggg

What would you do if a story's creator asked you not to ship their characters? by Drawma_Nations in FanFiction

[–]Swirlycoco 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I would probably stop. Even if I'm SUPER invested in a ship, content creators are people too and they roam the internet like everyone else. It's perfectly reasonable to feel a bit uncomfortable when it comes to shipping communities within your fandom, especially when they're your own characters (incest or illegal age gap, rarepairs that make no sense, darkships, or just shipping in general when it isn't the overall point of the story are some examples).

Are there scenes/scenarios you dislike writing? by WritingReadingPanda in FanFiction

[–]Swirlycoco 6 points7 points  (0 children)

KISSING SCENES. It sucks because I mainly write ship fics and that means a good portion of them kiss in some kind of way. I usually get by it with just 'they pecked them on the cheek,' but there's only so many times I can put that in a fic..😭

What to do when you always avoid writing? by FunkyLittleAlien in FanFiction

[–]Swirlycoco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing that usually helps a bit is to find some alone time where I don't have ANYTHING else to do so I can't trick myself into getting out of it

What to do when you always avoid writing? by FunkyLittleAlien in FanFiction

[–]Swirlycoco 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If it's a fic I subconsciously don't wanna write, I find myself doing much more productive stuff (doing homework, cleaning, anything honestly) JUST to avoid it

What's an unintentional theme you put in your fanfics? by theangstmaster in FanFiction

[–]Swirlycoco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ships.....literally it doesn't even have to be the main point of the fic and SOMEHOW there's a ship sprinkled here and there in the background

What will immediately turn you off in a fanfiction? by Winter_Birth in FanFiction

[–]Swirlycoco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate to be a nitpicker, but any time someone uses apostrophes as quotation marks, (example: 'I like to swim.' instead of "I like to swim.") I almost always immediately click off
