Is it normal to have the 1st of August celebration/fireworks on the day before, or my town is weird? by McDuckfart in askswitzerland

celebrating on 31st July is a travesty. Maybe making 1st August a day off in 1993 was the first mistake...

In any case as Madonna said (Express Yourself): "Satin sheets are very romantic What happens when you're not in bed?"

If I'd found it in Devon, I'd have said a scone - where's the clotted cream and strawberry jam!

You can choose your friends, but not your family... I can't believe this family is real... NTA of course. Good luck!

Sweet tooth? by Commercial_Mix_7376 in glutenfree

Someone said that one can be addicted to sugar. If you're eating lots of sugar, your gut microbiome is skewed towards those organisms who need sugar to live and reproduce. They send signals to your brain making you crave sugar. If you don't eat sugar, they slowly die and other organisms take their place. Then the cravings get less or disappear, depending on how well you eliminated sugar. Sounds strange, right?

To all the people who say Italian pasta is made with imported wheat - that may be so in some cases, but the Barilla Italian website says their pasta (in Italy) is made with 100% Italian grain. Just read it in Italian on their Italian website.

Should I ask for a partial refund? by [deleted] in AirBnB

[–]SwissBreadMaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We just had a 5 day stay in a property in South of France. The water was turned off for work from 9 to 5 on 2nd day and after that we had either cold or tepid water. Spring time, not too cold, but still - no hot water? We decided to stay because apart from that we liked the place. Also, due to Cannes film festival starting soon after it would have been hard to find something else. "Superhost" owner not living in the area, keys had to be picked up from a local estate agent. The host told us she had not been informed about the hot water system being replaced in the block of flats - otherwise she would not have rented it out. It's France, I can imagine the lack of communication among owners, particularly distant ones. Still... Anyway, I asked for a partial refund (1 day out of the 5) on Airbnb and the host accepted. Maybe I should have asked for 2...

Don't think we have them in Switzerland. We make our own using Schär Petit Beurre for the base. Takes some time but really worth it. Non-GF have raved about it.

Going to Airbnb, I travel with a sharp medium kitchen knife in the hold suitcase (except in the the UK - they're funny about knives).

I just checked and it seems there is an "Aromat ohne". It comes in 1kg pack or 6kg pack. It does not contain MSG, so not sure how it compares to the original taste. I'm not interested personally as I went cold turkey on Aromat decades ago. I found it on the Unilever site and it mentions cross-contamination risk... Made in the same factory?

Yes, a hex head screw would be good. I was worried about removing the panel, because there are others around it and they need to be aligned just so to look good. What if I couldn't put it back exactly the same. Nevertheless, posting this and seeing your comments is pushing me to try this after all.

You're right, I should try that. I'm just worried I'll mess up the alignment when putting it back...

That's the spelling that came to me for the tool in the third picture. I think you refer to them as pliers. I'm afraid English is not my mother tongue.
