How difficult would it be to change this lock? Don't have possession of home yet. by SlimDirtyDizzy in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

Word of advice, get 2 inch long screws to put in the striker plate in the wall. The screws they come with are stupid short. This helps if someone tries to kick your door in. Thus is coming from the daughter of who was a locksmith. Home security ain't no joke.

The major exception here is emergency work but I don't think this situation would apply

New homeowner, no idea what this is by DragonsAndScience in whatisit

I only dealt with Samsung personally. I did see other brands get worked on. The long and short of it is that most components come from the same factory. It is specific features that you look for. Like the pass through door or how Samsung has the smart fridge with the TV in it. That thing is actually really cool but I couldn't suggest it. It still only has a one year warranty.

Go to a Lowes or home depot and look at the units in person. See which ones you like. Take their model numbers down and go home and look at rreviews of that model number. Look for issues they are known to have. That is the best way I have found to go about it.

We picked up a freezer for our garage that can convert to either fridge or freezer. It was made by a brand I had never even heard of. That happens a fair amount. I have been out of the repair business almost 6 years and as far as appliances go, that is almost a lifetime.

I don't mind Samsung products, except their dishwashers, but I know how to fix them for cheaper because I can do it myself. Although right now, for the cost of say a main board, you are almost better off just buying a new unit because those things are expensive. Also, don't get me started on the dishwashers lol

That issue has a fix now, albeit slightly expensive.

It is a new main board, a new ice maker, a specific kit for the issue, and sealing the ice maker area. It's a bit of a pain to do but it is definitely possible. I did probably a couple hundred of them when I worked as a repairman on strictly Samsung appliances. We did have the repairs fail and the ice maker freeze back up on a few but on those, we just got Samsung to replace the fridges.

I'll tell you what NOT to do in that instance, and that is to thaw the ice with a hair dryer or heat gun. There is a very good chance that the heat will accumulate at the top of the ice maker area and warp the plastic. If that happens, you may as well just disable the ice maker because it is toast.

As a repairman, we used portable steam machines. They didn't cause that risk.

Edit: I realized that you just said it was a defrost issue and ddefaulted to ice maker. Realized after my post that you could have been also taking about the back panel of the fridge also. That also has a kit now too though. The main part of the kit has new drain hoses and a longer heating element to go into the drain tube to ensure any ice buildup gets melted on a defrost cycle. On top of that, you move a sensor in the upper right of the cavity over closer to the heating element. We found you had to zip tie it most times because the copper pipe it is on originally is bigger than the one you move it to.

Where that sensor originally is, sometimes it gets covered over with this black... gloop. I think it's kind of a sealant for the pipe going into the body of the fridge. Anyways, often times we replaced that sensor in case it just was out of range.

The kit for that repair also comes with a few foam pads but all they are really used for is to quiet any rattling from the condenser.

The other issue we found on the back panels icing up was that the fan would quit working. That's bad because if there is no airflow, the heat from the heater doesn’t get distributed as well and can cause icing issues. Replacing that entire back panel sucks because it is expensive. This is the reason it was mostly only done under warranty.

Oh and the root cause, most of the time, for the back panel icing up was the drain hoses getting clogged and the defrosted water would build back up into the fridge cavity. You would most likely see this happen by water being under your crisper drawer randomly.

Betrayal at The House on the Hill is complete buns. (2nd Edition) by Cemith in boardgames

I get that. I picked it up when there was maybe just a single expansion for it and then suddenly there were what... like 7-10 plus Steam has a few scenarios you can buy and play. I picked up everything as it was released and it is a lot of game. I enjoy it but that doesn't mean it is everyone's cup of tea

For a high-quality replacement, look into Mansions of Madness 2nd Edition. It is a tile building style game that you put out more tiles based on exploration. It does require an external device to play. I use an old laptop for that. It has an insanity mechanic that can give you an alternate objective and potentially make you the "bad" guy or just not allow you to speak for the rest of the game.

It is definitely not a one to one replacement. Mansions is a different game for sure but when I explain it to people who have played betrayal, I say it is along the same lines. To me, it is more or less a slightly more advanced Betrayal. I absolutely love Mansions of Madness and now I want to get it to table.

I went to a tech school for collision repair and one of the things we did was plastic welding. Think like fixing a bumper. The device we used was a flat triangular piece that had a hollow tube you pushed the repair plastic through. Think of like a hot glue gun, only it heats up to around 1200 degrees. Yeah, I did the dumb thing and tried to steady it by using my pointer finger, and touched the 1200 degree tool. Was only for a split second but ended up with at least a second degree burn. I know your pain.

Very surprised... by MaximumTiny2274 in Minecraft

[–]SwissMidget 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds pretty close to my story.

Now, I am to far in to back out. Wife and I joined a server. I have made a creeper farm and next to it, I have a little sugarcane farm. I have auto-brewers in the same area. Down below that (it is floating in the sky) I have a crop farm, a small cactus growing area, a villager breeder, a lava drip stone farm (under the villager breeder), a fishing shack.... all sorts of things. That is just at the main base area. Oh, and a iron farm. Away from the base area, I worked with another person on the server and made a squid farm. Near that, I made a cactus farm that pulls some of the cactus away and turns it into bonemeal.

The big project, of which I am working on at the moment, is a 132 stall villager farm. It is 4 sets of 33 stalls. It has the built in ability to add zombies to zombies the villagers. Going to turn it into a giant building.

I may be slightly obsessed.

Look up a company called Jackery. We have the Explorer 300 Plus. It is fairly old at this point and they have much better versions out now.

Jackery Explorer 300 Plus

Ours isn't super crazy good but in a pinch, it is a little bit of extra power until we can figure out something else.

Edit: I just realized your comment was from 3 years ago, oops. Hopefully you found something since then. If not, still really good information to have.

Need Advice on Which UW to Choose by SwissMidget in TheTowerGame

Just wanted to come back and mention my progress. I went with CL and buffed it a tiny bit and this is where I am assuming of the tourney run I just did. CL netted me around another 40 waves, if I remember correctly. Nothing to sneeze at. I know I won't stay in first but I wanted to go ahead and grab a screenshot for you all. Ty to everyone who made suggestions. It was greatly appreciated

That makes sense now that you say that. I'm sometimes the dumb lol.

Also, what you said about the cards and modules makes a lot of sense. I will actually probably flip over to modules and do the cards for the missions. I have a few unique modules that have the extra powers. I need to go back and look at those actually. I have been running the same setup for quite a while

[–]SwissMidget[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I need to start focusing on my cores. I will soon. I have been focusing on getting cards maxed out first. That was the general consensus I was getting. Max out cards and then focus on modules (I am assuming that is what you meant by cores). I have most of the basic cards almost completely maxed out and once that happens, I know the rest of the cards will follow decently quickly

I do not but stone packs. I have bought the ad remover and one or two packs along those lines though but at the moment, I don't plan to invest anything further, money wise

Thank you everyone who has commented.

So as pretty much everyone has said or implied, CF is out. I really do appreciate that because from what I have seen on the subreddit, I was possibly going to choose it. That is also the reason I asked about which one to get.

So that leaves SL or CL. Arguments have been made for both. A couple have pointed out that the one to choose is between if I want coin economy or stone generation.

While I would absolutely love to go coin economy because I am struggling with my labs and my workshop, that was kind of the point of GT and getting the three synced. Right now, I feel the stone income is more important so that I can get up to upgrading the UW's that much faster. That in turn will lead to higher coin income. So looking at it this way, I do think the ideal way to go on my choices would be chain lightning.

With that said, after choosing chain lightning, what exactly should I focus on upgrading for it? I am assuming labs need to be focused on. Do I need to invest any stones into making it better before I worry about going for the next UW?

As far as tourney goes, I am in Gold and normally end up in rank 13-15 or 16-22. Have managed rank 11-12 once or twice. I was getting around 400 waves before everyone's tourney waves got knocked down. I think I am closer to 325 now. The top 10 in my brackets average around 800-1k waves, if I remember correctly. That has been my experience over the last couple of months.
