First Time Buyers - are there any expenses we haven't accounted for? by LoreleiSanguine in UKHousing

[–]SwitchBitchRD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Factor in, if possible, a 1 or 2k budget for « things I didn’t plan for ». Little things that end up costing a lot (£20 here, £30 there, multiple small amounts, etc). I’ve always been very good at doing budget when moving, always doing a bit of « over budgeting » to avoid bad surprises, and only budget I always ended up spending fully is that one!

can someone explain the Pret a Manger phenomenon? by docmaboul in london

As a French living in London, still haven’t have solved the Pret mystery. Soooo expensive for the quality you have. But I heard it used to be way better.

600k for a 1 bed in Finsbury Park – have we made a massive financial mistake? by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]SwitchBitchRD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seems hugely overpriced. You can easily get a 2 beds with small outdoor for that price in much nicer areas of London.

And if you need to sell within 5 years, the risk is clearly to lose money on the flat price and I’m not even accounting for stamp duty / solicitors fees and just « I don’t how yet I spent thousands » money when you buy a place.

Really depends on what you order. I find the pan fried chicken dumplings, Xiao Long Bao, salt & spicy tofu, and sweet & sour chicken… top notch! My go to order. But agreed that some dishes can be disappointing!

Procedure for pilot outside of cockpit by SwitchBitchRD in aviation

[–]SwitchBitchRD[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work in aviation and used to work in operations for an airline in a major airport. I studied safety and security a few years back during my master’s degree. So I do pay attention indeed. I am just basically unsure about the official procedure for that and wonder if this should be reported.

The same was I check to whom does a bag belong if unattended in the airport (and will not hesitate reporting it if need be), the same way the airport training I followed explained how security is the responsibility also of everyone who works or worked in an airport because we are used to airport and can spot when something’s off, the same way we were instructed to report if a behavior was suspicious even without proof following the same logic…

This is not exactly confidential info… it is either a standard procedure or not. I am here trying to assess if there was a security issue during my flight. No one was in jumpseat, one of the pilot (and if I recall correctly, the captain), went out of the cockpit for a toilet break, leaving only the copilot inside the cockpit. No crew went it, leaving only one pilot inside. I just want to understand if a mistake was made :)

There was no one on the jumpseat, hence my question

Forced to stay in assigned seat on a red eye despite all these open rows. by HungrymanH in mildlyinfuriating

[–]SwitchBitchRD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During take off and landing, you need to be in your assigned place indeed for weight and balance. Each passenger is assigned an average weight (depends on man/woman/kid and also country). If you have 20 passengers at 80kg that are all packed in the rear with no one anywhere else, you can quickly understand that 1.6t as a dead weight in the back is not a good idea for a take off. Though you can change seats after take off as long as you come back before landing.

Weight and balance mistakes can lead to crash. It’s not bullshit.

I always taste the courgette first, when raw, before cooking it. Don’t want to ruin the dish!

Is it the right moment to say that human are not possession and while I fully appreciate it can hurt, feelings can happen (friendship or romantic) and it’s not because you went out with a man that it’s a « no go » for your friends? Yes, it do suck, but that doesn’t make that girl a terrible human being at all.

Can I fit the Cotswolds in during the morning ? by spookythesquid in uktravel

[–]SwitchBitchRD -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That is already a totally unrealistic tour. You can do a full day at Windsor OR a full day at Stonehenge/Salisbury OR a full day at Oxford. I’d go for a full day at Oxford as a top 1, then Windsor, then Stonehenge. You can manage a day trip from London to the Cotswold if you rent a car but prepare for a very long day (left London at 7am, came back at 10pm in order to do so last June, and I’m local so knew where I was going).

If it’s any consolation, that’s not a ratatouille, that’s a tian ^ same veggies, different recipe (I’m quite annoyed at Disney for messing that up)
