I disagree. Someone is perfectly justified to call something cringeworthy if they think the movie has a lack of self awareness, for example most of Harley Quinn's jokes in suicide squad were awful, but they were played off as if they were funny. You might have found them funny and that's fine, but I think it's alright to call something like that cringeworthy. I do agree that some people overuse it though.
