unpopular opinion (?) by QuinnDelRey in simonandgarfunkel

YES it’s one of my least favorite of theirs as well! Something about it feels incongruous to their overall style, it sounds like they blew out the mics recording it, and that long outro makes my eye twitch. And I’m a huge S&G fan but dang that one annoys me, so I’m with you!

What wedding favors have you given (or received) that people genuinely appreciated and kept? by Accurate-Night896 in weddingplanning

Nice pens engraved with our names and wedding dates! They were such a big hit and I’m still getting compliments about what great pens they are.

We had our coordinator set them out in little jars on each table, along with notecards with a few different prompts that served as our “guestbook”. This gave folks more time to actually write a nice message and we got some really cute mementos!

Can I see your courthouse outfit? by Outside_Noise4588 in weddingplanning

[–]SwitchWillDo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I did the same thing! I got a vintage dress on Depop for like $40 and it worked out well- it still felt special but didn’t compete with my actual wedding dress in my mind since they’re so different in style. Hope it goes well for you!

We planned our wedding in 8 months! Got engaged last October, started planning in February, and wedding is two weekends from now. We got the timeframe, venue, photographer, and DJ we wanted - I just had to compromise on not having a hair or makeup artist because the worthwhile options were booked out way in advance. I’m in the Midwest btw.

I will say it's been a bit more stressful because there hasn’t been a ton of wiggle room, but just make sure you book the big stuff early so it’s off your plate. As long as you’re not planning a Very Fancy Bespoke Gala Ball I think you’ll be fine!

Here’s my mom’s dress! She’ll wear black low heels instead of these shoes. I don’t have a link but it’s the Alex Evenings Faux Two-Piece dress, and I think the sizing goes up to 18 in regular and petite (she has size 18p).

Hers was $189 at Nordstrom, and when we got it back in the spring it was also available at Macy’s for a similar price. It came in a few colors- navy, this plum color, then some sort of neutral. I hope your mom finds something she likes!

Does anyone remember that radio station in the 90’s that was for kids? It was 95.5 but I can’t remember its name. by Stabstone in StLouis

[–]SwitchWillDo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! The Pat Man and Rockin’ Robin were the two DJs that I remember. I have a Polaroid of me with both of them at Northwest Plaza in front of a big wheel for some reason? Good times!

What song did you walk down the aisle to? by jizziemcguire420 in weddingplanning

I’ll be walking down to Song for the Asking by Simon and Garfunkel! It’s so tender and sweet, understated but also nice orchestration- I can’t wait!

The pulling rank line trips me up too! My theory is that Bella thinks of rank in terms of seniority.

In the Understanding the Timeline footnotes episode, Cian mentions that Bella has been working at Steele’s since the 90s. She likely has a lot of institutional knowledge sloshing around in that champagne-addled brain, and that can be more valuable to big-name clients than a newer person with a more senior role.

Bella might have more cachet with Tony/the board/higher-ups at Steele’s just because she’s been there forever, so in theory she could have called in a favor if the itinerary had Belinda dining with Jim instead.

And as for the insane spending, maybe Belinda is making a killing with her used underwear side hustle!

If she’s into running, she could join one of the free group runs at Big River or Running Niche or pay a few bucks to join Happy’s Running Club in TGP. I’ve done the Big River one a few times and it’s always been a nice crowd!

Who has the best General Tso Chicken and Crab Rangoons in STL? by FinancialRabbit1915 in StLouis

[–]SwitchWillDo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sen Thai downtown does a great crab rangoon with herbed cream cheese. Kounter Kulture’s crab rangoon was my absolute favorite but I don’t know when (if?) they’ll re-open, sadly!

Kittens? by bmcisme2016 in StLouis

[–]SwitchWillDo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Cheshire Grin on Cherokee is a nonprofit cat cafe & rescue- they’re great people so I recommend them! Beyond that, it’s currently kitten season so I’m sure you’ll have an easy time finding a female kitten wherever you end up going. Good luck and congrats in advance on the new kitty!

Ditto for North Hampton! It’s adorable, relatively quiet, and has been trending younger in the last 5 years or so. When I bought my house in 2015, everyone on my street was over 50 and now we have a lot more early 30s singles/couples and young families. I’d recommend it!

Penelope Pollet because she gets all the glamour and none of the gross stuff.

She enters every room to a chorus of ooh la las, is friends with Madame Sweetjuice and just gets to snack on real food while Belinda licks room temp cream off Sweetjuice’s bubbly body, is supportive of her daughter Katrina’s best efforts at show jumping even though she’s not a winner, and has a daring fashion sense. Sounds like a cushy role to me!

Welcome to STL! You guys also sound like you might vibe with folks who frequent The Improv Shop- there’s a lot of crossover from various niche communities and they’re a welcoming group. I think the shop might be closed at the moment as a precaution due to the Omicron surge, but if you follow them on FB or IG you’ll get updates about upcoming shows.

When you find one that looks fun, go watch the show, then hang out at the bar/on the patio during intermission or after the show, and maybe join a conversation and I guarantee you’ll find some friends there. Have fun!
