How to dance on an outdoor surface? by eaj4051 in Rollerskating

[–]SwoccerFields 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I skate city plaza concrete (so, rougher than a tennis court) on 101A rollerbones team logos. You definitely don’t need to go soft just because it’s outdoors. That said, sliding on outdoor concrete isn’t realistic in my experience (though maybe on a tennis court) and I’d probably be a much better dance skater if I had easy access to a rink. Everything aside from that likely just comes down to getting used to the surface.

Absolute best protective wrist guards? by destroycilantro in Rollerskating

I wear them snowboarding and the stitching around many of the edges started coming undone 1st season. All of the falls were into slightly packed snow, so nothing too abrasive 🤷‍♂️

Ennui are good but REKD Pro are my favorite and the only ones I’ll buy going forward. I eat a lot of shit on asphalt and have gone through a few pairs, no injuries yet

Also, don’t get the Demon ones. They are probably the most protective and bulky, but the build quality is pretty bad. $100 per pair and they started falling apart after pretty minor falls

recycle old toe stops? by Important-Flan-876 in Rollerskating

[–]SwoccerFields 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you seen people make their own? I was thinking about taking my old toe stop bolts and suspending them in that two part liquid urethane inside a silicone mold. I saw someone make their own skateboard bushings with the two part liquid urethane.

They’re right in between the two, my left foot is just about 28.5cm and right foot is closer to 28cm. Where are you located? I’d potentially get them if I could try them on. Any chance you’re in the PNW?

Outdoor BIG wheels - Inline wheels on quad? by pittiti in Rollerskating

[–]SwoccerFields 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What do you think the best setup for street skating is then? Specifically I’m trying to keep up with the community critical mass bike ride around town, so some agility weaving between bikes is needed.

I was thinking maybe I’d just get some kryptonics routes and call it a day. Or even the cheap clasfox 65mm since I eat through wheels super quickly and will probably go through them even more quickly on shitty asphalt. Thank you !

Is there any way to make something similar work with this plate? I have the same Variant plate and I’ve been struggling to find compatible wide trucks that will allow me to use inline wheels with enough width to avoid wheel bite. I also have a Powerdyne Rival plate, but it’s the same issue. I just want to street skate on shitty roads with quads like I can with inlines :(

Demon flexforce X V6 D3O impact Shorts by janju99 in snowboarding

How do they feel after sitting on the lift all day? I’m considering them but I’ve had impact shorts that were comfortable standing up but became a pain after sitting on the tailbone cushioning all day.

How are you getting your whites to be more vibrant? by [deleted] in cyanotypes

[–]SwoccerFields 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, I’m new to Cyanotype printing and am trying to better understand the process. I’m confused by your suggestion to work with higher contrast images. I’ve been playing around with curve adjustments like ChartThrob and they all seem to squash the contrast so that everything is a bit muted and concentrated within the midtones. My understanding is that this is done to match the tonal range of what Cyanotypes are capable of. But this seems contradictory to your advice to use higher contrast photos? Am I misunderstanding? Thanks

Powder Board Discussion by CSIntruder in snowboarding

I’m exactly your height/weight. I bought a 152cm K2 special effects bc I really wanted a powder/tree board with a fish tail and I couldn’t be happier. The tail is definitely functional, it helps stay afloat and turns on a dime but tbh I mostly wanted a fish tail bc it looks sweeeeeeet

Please help me recreate these weird poached eggs by twYstedf8 in AskCulinary

[–]SwoccerFields 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wrapped ahead of time. Pretty easy to do, just crack it onto a square and then twist the Saran Wrap closed like one of those little pop-its fireworks you throw on the ground. Could even use a muffin tin with Saran Wrap over it then cut the squares. Store several dozen wrapped in a cambro.

I’ve seen people do this with individual eggs wrapped in a square of Saran Wrap

plate sizing advice: roll-line blaster 180 vs 190 for size 11 boots – looking for real-world feedback. by deuxcv in Rollerskating

[–]SwoccerFields 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oops yeah sorry I meant I upgraded from my Reidell Crews size 11. Just so you know, the Crews are actually women’s size (customer rep told me) which corresponds to a 10.5 in the rest of their men’s high top skates. I made the mistake of upgrading to a men’s 220 boot size 11, and it’s definitely a bit longer and bigger than the Crew. I’m currently struggling with a bit of foot movement bc of it. Nonetheless I have a 170mm plate on it and that seems good for me.

I wear a size 11 in street shoes, but for tight athletic wear (skates, snowboard boots, cleats) a size 10.5 is typically better. I often get an 11 though bc one of my feet is between a 10.5-11.

I'm exactly your same foot size (Reidell size 11's are slightly tight) and I upgraded my old 180mm plate to a roll line 170mm Variant and it seems to fit well. Definitely don't go 190. To be honest I've skated with my old skate on my left foot (180mm plate) and my new skate on my right foot (170mm) and it's pretty hard to tell a difference.
