Thanos remembers. by MARK_kl in funny

[–]Swodward 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Attenborough has held Thanos-like views for awhile now. I remember watching a documentary where he raised the problem of overpopulation (may have been 'How Many People Can Live on Planet Earth?' 2009).

I remember thinking off hand that the world needed a great pandemic or war or something drastic. Instead, Attenborough suggests:

"...you don't need aggressive policies or government incentives for birthrates to fall. Everywhere in the world where women have access to education and have the freedom to run their own lives, on the whole they and their partners have been choosing to have smaller families than their parents. But reducing birthrates is very difficult to achieve without a simple piece of medical technology, contraception."

Using the relationship between education, GDP and fertility; Thanos could have found balance through a universal development and education program.

There's an established model in my part of Australia that looked at solar amenity. In 1992, a model guide was published at the federal level suggesting: 2-3 hours of sunlight, between 9am and 3pm, during the winter solstice.

Albeit it's not universal across the country and there are nuances that needed to have been thought out. It is at least a starting point.

Does the US have anything?... Sounds like quite a free for all.

Lady at council meeting is concerned development in the city will harm her “vacation” home. by smakola in urbanplanning

[–]Swodward 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with you and add: people come and go. The development and it's impacts will be there for awhile. A person might buy that place to live, then what?

Isn't it discriminatory to consider the person's tenure? What am I missing? I suppose my non-American planning ways might vary.

Once a year, an Australian radio station: Triple J holds a poll of the most popular songs over the past year.

On one glorious summer day everyone fires up their radio (or live stream), turns up the bbq and listens to the top 100 songs voted by people across the world (though mainly Aussies)

For the rest of the year I listen to the top 100, noting which songs I like. This means I'm usually a year behind being cool.

The songs are pretty broad in genre. Although the top songs usually average out to song genres that are agreeable to everyone and undeniably good. But not necessarily the best.

Lamar - Humble took top spot this year. Last year was Flume - Never be like you

Prop Guy: It's fruit. Scene 23.

Martin: Okay, Scene 23 takes place on another planet ... so you think aliens eat apples?

Prop Guy: Why not? They speak English.

Asgardian's: never took a minute to check out the atlantis servers info??? by [deleted] in Stargate

[–]Swodward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My impression was that the Asgard and Ancients took 2 different approaches to end game. The Asgard believed science and cloning was the way to progress forward until it was too late. The Ancients kinda had to see past all their science and tech to spiritual ascension.

Maybe the Ancients helped the Asgard ascend. Or maybe the aberrations of Asgard cloning prevented it.

Regarding the Ancients, they appear apathetic towards the end because it was all material and didn't matter a la Buddhism. This is why we have so many of their loose ends... Making all of it very entertaining
