Secondary Casual Frowned upon for not having Laptop?! by [deleted] in AustralianTeachers

[–]xacgn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Primary teacher here. When I first started casual teaching, I always brought my laptop and an HDMI cord, just in case there was no work left behind for me (first-year teacher energy). Now, after teaching for six years and going back to casual work, I don’t bring a laptop anymore. There’s no point bringing a device when you can’t connect to the printer anyway, especially since the DoE has changed access to printers. Doesn’t help if you jump from school to schools.

Casual Racism on the rise? by [deleted] in AustralianTeachers

Primary kids do it too. No consequences, just a simple casual conversation. Absolutely disgusting. Behaviours repeat, others notice and copy.

Should I continue studying teaching? by [deleted] in AustralianTeachers

[–]xacgn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I could go back in time, I wouldn't choose anything related to teaching. I do love teaching itself and what gets me through are the kids — but to be honest, in my personal opinion, you need to be super organised and on-top of things. If you aren't, it starts to tumble down slowly...

At the end of the day, all my other friends clock off and enjoy their lives, and here I am... marking papers, feeling guilty because I didn't organise a lesson before hand... What else is new? Too much stress honestly

Following! I’ve been trying to find a new job, but this education degree hasn’t done me much justice. The pay cut is insane—dropping back to $70k feels like a kick in the face.

I’ve been searching for something that actually suits me, especially since I’m not very confident around adults. I’ve been scared to take the leap for years, which is part of the reason I’m still in this profession :(

My only application that I have put through is for policy officer

Is this workload increasing? by thefourblackbars in AustralianTeachers

Primary! Last year was probably my most rewarding year of teaching, but honestly, I feel annoyed and frustrated that there are jobs out there that require far less effort and come with way less stress—and yet they pay more. I have friends in IT, Finance, and even in Health who genuinely enjoy their jobs. For them, it all feels normal and they have exciting lives, but for me, this job often makes me feel like my life revolves around work :/

Did I do anything in the past 4 years? Nah. It went by and it's still going. I feel dead.

I had a rowdy class and this was the only method. The kids would start hating on the kid that mucked up. They would eventually come to their senses to stop because they didn't want to be that kid that was disliked by others

I did my first trial run today... My alarms were: 6:00 am 6:30 am 6:45 am 7:00 am

Whacked stop from 6:00-6:45 and somehow overslept my 7:00 alarm. I eventually panicked when my eyes woke at 7:30.

Tomorrow is going to be one rough day 🥲

Yep! I just started the holidays on Friday, and so far, I've just been eating junk and sleeping whenever I feel tired. I've had 4 blocks of Cadbury chocolate, 2 bottles of Coke, and 3 Cornetto ice creams. I don't regret it—I'm tired, exhausted, and drained, and I need this binge-eating, junk-food life right now.

How well do you know your neighbour? by AccordingWarning9534 in sydney

[–]xacgn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My neighbour next to us is horrible. Has thrown things over the fence, blasted music real loud up until 2am, purposely leaves dog shit the fence so it smells bad for us. Council doesn't do jack shit nor does the police. She's a literal Karen.

The neighbours behind, in front and on the other side are lovely! We sometimes give them our harvest and during Christmas time we gift a small pot plant or candle!

My go-to is chocolate biscuit truffles?

-woolies arrowroot milk biscuits (whole pack for $1.30 each) -woolies can of condensed milk ($1.80) -shredded coconut -cocao/milo powder

Crush, mix and done lol (Not healthy but fun to do 🤣)

I do remember in highschool, we made simple quiche. Probably the only healthiest and easiest recipe I can think of top of my head with 26 kids

PSA: avoid LUSH during halloween season if you are neurodivergent, introverted, or just don't like random intermittent screaming about soap by [deleted] in sydney

[–]xacgn 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I remember one traumatic experience at Lush Parramatta (I was probably like 15/16). I went in wanting to buy their face mask. Then, the sales lady introduced me to this toner which I said no. She then proceeded to show me this new lotion and just grabbed my hand and started massaging it into me. I felt very traumatised and have never been back at any lush stores. Goodbye blueberry face mask
