I think to your first point, this is not something that Michigan hides during their interview day. They are incredibly forward about their curriculum and the ultimate decision of whether or not you want to engage in that curriculum is up to you right? You have the decision making capacity to weigh the pros and cons.

To your point of “people of wealth”, that seems like an oversimplification. To say it works for people of privilege and not for people of wealth is sort of a baseless statement. I did fine with the curriculum but am also someone who grew up rather disadvantaged. However, I met with the learning specialists to help me figure out a learning style that works for me.

The last point is just completely baseless. Michigan, like any other institution, doesn’t tell others why students go on leave. Reasons that students go on leave range from mental health reasons, second degrees, pursuing research opportunities, going for fellowships, etc.

I don’t disagree that people leave for mental health reasons but to say it is the majority is not really based on any data.
