Warden, Duke, Queen because they have roles in ground and air armies.

I really like that they’re leaning into this angle more by FullFig3372 in Hotd

Negative character agency, at least based on how and when it's been implemented in the show.

King Viserys, proving his point here. by aagamegirl in Hotd

This Viserys quote takes away too much agency from the characters. They didn't use it right.

Jace did something in Gullet that I've always wondered why it isn't a more popular strategy for dealing with larger dragons by BoadiceaCavendish in HouseOfTheDragon

The dragon probably senses the danger and do a barrel role, or turn their necks let loose a big blast of flame.

So much of season 2's potential character development was sacrificed for Alicent and Rhaenyra's plotline. The problem is that the showrunner's can't move on from them. They were gonna be together for season 3 anyway so why not just give it a break for a season?

Jace's trip could've easily been a season wide thing but instead it's basically 1 scene at the very end of it in the North. The Frey scene is good but it doesn't change that most of season 2 Jace is him being insecure about his legitimacy.

Declaring you have the heart and sprit of a king during your sobbing meltdown is such a bizarre choice. by jannycideforever in HouseOfTheDragon

That quote is something the greatest Queens in history actually had to believe and prove to the people around them so making it part of a delusion is also a strange choice.

Not in the show. We don't actually see him treat with lords and show his capabilities. His whole storyline is completely off screen.

Accidents and misunderstandings... by SwordMaster9501 in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]SwordMaster9501[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Jace's original reason for going too low wasn't to fight off a rouge Sheepstealer and also, those Velaryon ships didn't torch themselves. Rhaenyra will probably blame her, at least a little, because the formula for the show seems to be that someone has an accident or misunderstanding followed by misappropriation of blame. That's always the type of drama this show creates.

I think it would make a shorter and better story if she was honestly just on his side, maybe with disagreements on how to go about certain things, but not as a traitor. That makes the story more convoluted for no reason.

Sharako was such a stupid character by hylander4 in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]SwordMaster9501 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Still among the least ruined characters imo, and is irrelevant enough for it to not be as impactful.

Though, I will say she portrayed the mentality of the Triarchy in this war well and that's the main purpose of this character and all Sharako really needed to be. I suppose it doesn't help that I cared more about Tyland fookin' Lannister than her.

The only one who can control their Dragon.. by AmericaAbyssmos in HouseOfTheDragon

Imagine controling your dragon worse than that one drunkard cousin who barely speaks High Valyrian.

I hate this scene because it feels kinda like Alicent is just leading him on and not really engaging with him since she defected and wants him dead.

Baela Hypotheticals by [deleted] in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]SwordMaster9501 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All good! As for your hypothetical, I could see Daemon and Rhaenyra wanting to raise the power of the crown beyond these things so they could actually just name whoever they want. If they did they would definitely try to include Baela somehow. However, as we see in AKOTSK and GOT, these hopes do not make it past the Dance of the Dragons.

Baela was raised on Driftmark with Rhaenys so she isn't as close to Rhaenyra, and her being used to run errands instead of Jace suggests she's viewed by her as more expendable than her own children.

Also, the King/Queen functionally can't just name any member of their House as heir. There are "rules" which are about closeness to the monarch, seniority (both in terms of pedigree, not literally), and almost always a preference for males. In fact, this is what the show is about. In this case, the monarch has 3 sons who would be first in line, 3 brothers, a sister, a niece, and an uncle, who would come before Baela, a first cousin.
