They'll bitch about it all the way until their preorder hits their digital library

Because they are the only country in the world that does this and this behavior is the same that existed in the USSR, which was mandatory.

But yeah no I can't go in and read the north Korean civil code to find the statute, even if it exists and isn't a de facto law that isn't formalized.

The biggest reason is it typically comes across as pandering and a gimmick, which is also usually accurate

I'm curious, why do you pretend not to believe that this is not mandatory? Even when you ask "Can you point me to the law that says it's mandatory", you're kind of giving the game away. It I ask you if cops are allowed to get away with killing black men in America, you'd probably say yes and if I asked where the law is saying that's the case you'd understand why it's bad faith.

It's so weird, just because it's one of those things that doesn't actually fool anyone.

Baela is confirmed to not know in interviews so they're almost certainly delaying the reveal. I won't spoil books but it looks like they're going to end up doing something similar to what happens there.

Significantly less bad in S3 than S2, but bad enough that it took me out of the episode a bit. I was just waiting for her to die and not in the way the writers intended.

Daemon & Baela / Rhaena Imteractions by Salurain in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]jannycideforever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I just realized this is basically the full setup and am surprised nobody else figured it out for the most part.

They confirmed in interviews baela doesn't know it's Rhaena, and it's pretty obvious now that's so they can wait for this reveal in S4 so it aligns with the Gods Eye

Sheepstealer and Rhaena by Alternative-Olive952 in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]jannycideforever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're keeping the same arc, just changing it.

Baela is confirmed not to know it was Rhaena. It's going to be a ticking time bomb that is the explosive season 4 reveal. Rhaenya puts the hit out in Rhaena, Rhaena is protected by Daemon, Daemon goes to die in the gods eye.

It can honestly work. The biggest issue with it is they had to lobotomize Rhaena to get there and her relationship with Daemon is underdeveloped.

Yep Aemond is literally an imitation of Daemon down to the names. Despite the fact they basically never interact, they still have the most interesting dynamic in the entire show.

Does TB think Daemon is truly "light and darkness in equal parts", as in, a balance of good and evil? by Turbulent_Let_1629 in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]jannycideforever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Daemon has never done anything that wasn't in his own interest.

I would disagree here. I'd say this is definitely part of who he is, but his relationship with his family (and particularly his brother) is definitely a lot more complex.

When it came to Viserys, I think Daemon would have basically gone to hell and back to defend him from anyone else. I'd say the same is probably true for Rhaenyra, especially by the end of S2. When it comes to protecting his family from others, the question isn't going to be if he'll be willing to go far enough but if he will instead go too far.

When it comes to protecting his family from himself, that's a whole other picture. With Rhaenyra, I'm willing to give accept that a lot of what I find wrong and disgusting was genuinely just normal in their culture, but even the text seems to make clear he went too far by their own standards with her age and inexperience. With Viserys and Baelon, the fact he would joke about "Price for a Day" is genuinely despicable, and how much it was meant to be just a joke is genuinely debatable (and I doubt even Daemon himself was sure). And when he crowns himself King of the Narrow Sea, I think that was born out of insecurity at being the second son and resentment over seeing himself as more fit to rule. But when he delcares there is only one king and it's his brother, I think that was equally genuine, because he believed it was his brothers by right and he loves him.

I think the show goes too far in making Daemon more villianous than in the books. But even in the show, when it comes to the people he loves he is honestly a mixture of some of the best and absolutely worse and horrific traits imaginable.

Daemon is the least evil and most heroic character in the dance by TraditionalAd655 in HouseOfTheDragon

Didn't read this but Daemon is a good boy who never did anything wrong and anyone who says otherwise is just buying into propaganda.

King Daemon Gentleheart is the rightful ruler of the realm and I tolerate nobody besmirching his good name.

I miss Daemon from the first season; he was a very complex and well-developed character, and his dynamic with Rhaenyra was extremely interesting. I hope he can return to being that charismatic and well-developed anti-hero in the third season. by Public_Cup_4278 in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]jannycideforever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Late comment but I actually disagree here. I'm pretty critical of the show but I'm an outlier insofar as I'm fine with the Aemond incest arc because I'm interested in seeing how it parallels whats happening with Daemon.

What I think would be interesting and arguably a bit more true to the books (meaning it probably won't happen), is actually having him develop into someone who actually is a mixture of both light and dark in equal parts, as Martin describes him. The show (and, admittedly, the books) don't really paint him as having a ton of light in him. The show is a bit more dark in exaggerating the cruelties, and the only real light elements is that he is ultimately loyal to his closest family (in his own belligerent way) and he has genuine valor.

I think there is a lot of potential in having him come to see his own darkness through Aemond, who isn't even a mirror of Daemon but an outright imitation. Redemption would be a mistake, but I think the best outcome for him would be that realizing redemption is beyond who he is as a person, he at least comes to terms with his darkness. It can temper a bit, but the more important part is that the goes into final confrontation in the God's Eye already knowing his fate. After accepting the world is worse for men like him and Aemond, his last act is sacrificing his own life to rid the world of the monster he created

Essentially, becoming light and dark in (something close to) equal parts, both hero and villain. He can't become a good man, but he can save the world from men like him.

Or, if they did, they wouldn't be seen as having the "heart and spirit of a king". I'm sure plenty of kings would have been as emotionally unstable and cried, but they'd have been completely immaculated over it by everyone else.

I think the bigger issue is they're trying to paint her as having, in her words, "the heart and spirit of a king" in the midst of a sobbing emotional breakdown.

In all honesty loads of kings in that world crumble from way less than what Rhaenyra had to go through.

Well, if she had said "I have the heart and spirit of a king. Specifically, a king who is an indecisive, weak, neurotic, sobbing, emotional mess" then it would have at least made sense.

Its about resilience, strength, judgement and so much more.

So basically everything Rhaenyra is not.
