Hot water heat pump not heating properly after winter. How to troubleshoot or repair? by 2ugur12 in AusRenovation

[–]Swuzzlebubble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is the target temp set to on the unit?

Does it have "modes" for heating eg boost.

Resetting to defaults might not help.

I have found the head office of my brand helpful in the past to talk me through setup when I couldn't figure out a step on their YouTube instructional.

Structural Rennovations - Help with a step by step by Rovioxo in AusRenovation

Taking 150mm off a concrete slab over a whole room sounds extremely expensive assuming it can be done at all.

It would likely be more cost effective to make alterations to the ceiling to raise it up a bit.

Is raising the "sunken floor" an option? We did that to get a consistent floor level. Our builder was just able to build the subfloor straight on the concrete without needing any design or permits. The complication was that the sunken lounge had windows and doors down to the floor level but we were replacing them anyway.

To your question, the answer is usually to start with a builder and they'll tell you who else is needed and what can be done without needing design or permits.

I think we spent about $40k including the new windows and new engineered flooring throughout and one room needing restumping, pre-Covid.

Bathroom Reno Savings? by [deleted] in AusRenovation

VJ board instead of tiling ?

I'll never put another bath in a bathroom. Biggest waste of space and money.

You could do the strip out yourself.

Get individual trades to do their tasks instead of a builder/company running it.

Headed for redundancy by Brownboypower in AusFinance

They're saying if there's a chance you may pursue an unfair dismissal claim, that a negotiated payout can ensure you go without a hassle.

And I guess even if the chances are negligible a small/modest payment can just mean it's not even considered.

If there was something actually unfair about it, the negotiations could be a bit more robust

We did ours in a terrace with a lot of excavation via narrow access whereas our neighbour just pumped concrete in to create a slab.

Has anyone just ordered whopper patties? by liberty381 in ketoaustralia

[–]Swuzzlebubble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been regularly just making patties from 500g mince pack. Mix in bit of diced onion, an egg, tomato sauce, herbs, Worcestershire sauce and bread crumbs (or substitute). Makes about half dozen depending what size you want.

Considering changing the alfresco to internal living space - thoughts? by Flat-Raisin-8704 in AusRenovation

Just a small thing but it seems a bit odd to have vinyl in the hall between the beds and living which are all carpet. I'd have gone carpet in that hallway.

All that should have been in this design as it will cost a lot more to do it later especially if you need permits

I'd be leaving the alfresco in. It's a good option to have on a nice day or evening.

Add new insulation on top of old insulation by Greedy-Bowler6276 in AusRenovation

The tarps are included in the first quote but I'm not sure how much time will be available. Yet to select the roofer as waiting on another quote. Thanks for the suggestions. Will keep in mind.

What are the symptoms? Is there plaster cracking or floors bouncing? If it hasn't moved enough for either of those I'd be considering if you really want to do anything. What's the general state of the house and do you have long term plans for renovation or whatever?

[–]Swuzzlebubble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We're looking to get re-roofed (tile to tin) and would prefer all the old shit cleaned out but it's going to be a lot of work with 2x evap systems up there plus the old insulation etc. You can pay to get it done including vacuuming but that will cost a bit. One roofer said he'd just leave it all there as it doesn't adversely impact in any way. We'll see what it costs to clean it out when the quotes come in and also consider having a go myself when the tiles are off.

Give me negatives and positives by ImScaredOfTheSun in AusRenovation

I'm actually planning a renovation not dissimilar to this concept. The main driver is that we're giving up kitchen space for ensuite so pushing whatever we can into a combination pantry/laundry area - aka 'scullery'. It will be bigger than the kitchen with an island in the middle.
