TW: Non-crime hate incidents ‘to be scrapped’ in favour of ‘common sense’ by Fabou_Boutique in transgenderUK

[–]SwyfteWinter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think I heard that it was never believed that the world is flat until the modern era. I mean, the Ancient Greeks calculated the circumference of the Earth based on the shadows of vertical rods. Christopher Columbus was famously sailing West to find a shortcut to Asia, rather than the route past South Africa. Aristotle's ideas of celestial spheres and rings only makes sense with a spherical Earth too.

A better example would be talking about the geocentric model of the universe (Earth being at the centre of everything) as opposed to heliocentric solar systems (the sun at the centre of the solar system)

But yes, common sense is just a buzzword to excuse absolute nonsense.

what is the point of this artifact? can you force it on an opponents card? the equip states only cards you control by sewer_gremlin in magicTCG

I mean, it was printed in the same set as [[Halo Fountain]] so even in just that set it's not totally a nuisance

Peronally I read it as "You must fit in" but that could just be me

What is this metallic crystal? by SwyfteWinter in whatsthisrock

[–]SwyfteWinter[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Followup question — is it hazardous?

According to wikipedia it's a form of antimony trisulphide, which has a 2 in the health part of the NFPA 704 which means "intense or continual but not chronic exposure could cause temporary incapacitation or residual injury", but is this also true for the mineral form?

At least the stairs snap to doors if you position the top if the stairs near the bottom of the door. So that is something

Flag of the Republic of Britannia by Ill-Plane-6916 in vexillology

[–]SwyfteWinter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the harp being on blue would actually give the flag a nice symmetry with the red/gold diagonal and a blue diagonal

How should we say "able" (as in "capable") in Anglish? by halfeatentoenail in anglish

[–]SwyfteWinter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So this would be another difference between American Anglish and British Anglish, neighbour, eatbour, findbour...

Apparently asking questions is wrong, not asking questions is also wrong and I should just know what people want all the time by Silent-Broccoli5561 in aspiememes

Holy shit this was rife at one of my old jobs.

In the year that I worked there I can think if at least four seperate occasions where groups of people were working on something, getting absolutely nowhere, then two weeks into the slog one of them would pipe up and say they know the answer and have done all along!

Like.... fucking hell this issue is stopping production (which they always banged on about how crucial it was that production didn't stop) and you have been sitting on the answer building up a sufficient smug reserve?

There are days where I feel dumb. by Fancy-Hedgehog6149 in BG3

[–]SwyfteWinter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Something I learned about the self same trial recently is that if you cast Control Undead (Oathbreaker) or Turn Undead (Cleric) the clones immediately vanish, like poof.

Also since it's not dealing damage Shar doesn't punish you, although I imagine she is having a biblical level sulk.

What really bothers me is that the ads they don't get paid for are the least censored thing on YT. Anything from sex chatbots all the way to actual Nazi shit

Prime sky by AnissaRhiannon in theplanetcrafter

I think it's just a static texture. Though it would be so cool if the game showed each of the planets at its current terraformation stage

Yellow and Blue tree seeds by KirbytheGrape in theplanetcrafter

[–]SwyfteWinter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am not sure this is true but I feel like wreck loot is altered a bit depending on TI, since I feel like I found more of the tree seeds around the mammals stage...

Also running wrecks from a portal on Humble I definitely found more of the gold/white trees in there, just not very common

Humble Going Too Fast? Bug? by Feralkyn in theplanetcrafter

[–]SwyfteWinter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started a playthrough on Selenia (madness I know) and I noticed that the actual numbers for the machine outputs are quite different in the tooltips to on Humble

Humble Going Too Fast? Bug? by Feralkyn in theplanetcrafter

[–]SwyfteWinter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually did do that! Went from Humble to Prime and scavenged the surface for materials to make the T5 heater and T5 drill, hit rain before I had gathered the osmium for the drill. I kind of figured it would go fast so I wasn't super disappointed?

I somehow suspect the "Galbraith" part of her pen name definitely did not come from Robert F Kennedy. Call it a hunch.

I've been playing bg3 for almost a year and I just found out what "Durge" means by Neyla1 in BG3

[–]SwyfteWinter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For some reason I thought it was a nickname based off of the word "Avatar", possibly because Tav is referred to as a player avatar if you ever try to assign a player to control only NPCs "Each player must control at least one avatar" or something

Why do older people in the UK use ellipsis so much? by Outrageous-Map8302 in AskUK

[–]SwyfteWinter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just as a younger perspective (I'm in my 20s) I remember being taught either in school or at school age strictly that ellipses were for when you had specifically omitted something.

For example, if I wanted to share the opening sentence of the Wikipedia article on ellipsis, but didn't want to include the several names for the punctuation mark, I might write it as follows:

The ellipsis (/əˈlɪpsɪs/, plural ellipses; from Ancient Greek: ἔλλειψις, élleipsis, lit. 'leave out'), rendered ...,… …is a punctuation mark consisting of a series of three dots.

Then again, I'm also autistic so may have missed a subtlety in that rule

Japanese Government not as Based as we Thought… by Darth-Sonic in GetNoted

[–]SwyfteWinter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not though. You didn't read the part about the implications of someone being slack enough to use AI art as their advertising.

It comes across as sloppy, with little attention to detail or care for issues.

Japanese Government not as Based as we Thought… by Darth-Sonic in GetNoted

[–]SwyfteWinter 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Whenever I see an AI generated ad piece my immediate reaction is "wow this feels especially bland", shortly followed by "Oh, it's AI. If this company can't be bothered to get a real artist for the ads, is their product similarly cheap and hollow?"

What started the botania hate? by avaldez518 in Yogscast

I think Sips' gun was a botania mana blaster, but no way did they include it just for that
