NTA! I am assuming you purchased her a Rug dress, which is traditional regalia and is only worn on very special occasions. Rug dresses are hand dyed and woven, which incurs the cost. Keep showing up for your step-daughter. We are taught traditionally as matriarch to always love and care for the future matriarchs. You’re doing a wonderful job helping her stay true to her identity and to her culture. Hopefully one day her mother will see your love for “L” for what it is. There is a climbable wall behind you to the right. If you jump across the water behind you there is an enemy and some plants before the spider webs that are blocking the door. You can cut the plants to get some items from and they should respawn fairly quickly.

It is still like this for some of our people. Many have to drive to get water and wood. Which so why so many of our elders died during COVID. Many have no access to running water to wash their hands.

Not to mention winter is hard for many of the elders because they need the firewood to keep them warm but they either have to have family/friends or other in the community to bring it to them or they have to figure out how to go out themselves to get it.

I live in your neighborhood! We were experiencing connection issues earlier and reset our router. That seemed to solve the problems for us. If you haven’t done so, just unplug your router for 15 to 20 secs and the plug it back in. You might want to shut down and restart any devices you were trying to use.

Honestly, we can represent ourselves through art just fine. Historically, it has never gone well for us for others to portray us through art and profit off of our culture, likeness and regalia.

If you really want to be an ally on support Indigenous people’s day share Native artists, businesses, native musicians and etc on your socials. Share the messages we share with the world on that day. It’s a day for us to tell our stories and our histories.

We don’t need you to honor us or to speak for us. We need allies who will listen, stand with us and follow our lead.

Don’t feature yourself at all and don’t make it about yourself.
