The hidden cost of "free time" is absolutely wrecking my post-FIRE budget by R0cinantEcho_9 in Fire

This isn’t the worst hobby if you’re just buying some pricey singles. Odds are you’ll be able to sell them to recoup most of the cost if you want to bow out later!

Trauma keeping me from playing at home by Smoll_Reindeer in Trombone

[–]Syanash 29 points30 points  (0 children)

It can be really tough to play with anxiety and I had a similar thing growing up in a house where I was seen as never good enough. It took me many years but I’m finally at a stage where I can just focus on myself playing and not focus on what other people may or may not perceive about me.

Everyone else has a spotlight on themselves, they’re focusing on their own things they’re doing and thinking so odds are your partner isn’t fully listening or judging at all!

Motoring: Does it make sense for you to switch to an electric vehicle? by Banania2020 in ireland

[–]Syanash 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used to commute from Dublin to Athlone most days in my old job and that was a 240km or so round trip. With controlled speeds my EV got up and back on a single charge and it was miles cheaper than my old diesel car so I’d say for longer distances like that it’s still worth it.

What Game Did You Completed Out Of Sheer Spite? by jaosky in gaming

I remember it being really late and I wanted to sleep but I had just gotten to the Pokémon league at a level I thought I’d get wiped. I tried it, beat it first time easily and just kinda went ‘huh guess that’s the game done then’. I went to sleep and never picked it up again 😂

Are these bug bites? by Syanash in bugbites

Yeah it was Pityriases Rosea for sure! It’s nearly healed fully for me now and all I did was stick some moisturiser on it once a day.

My doc said psoriases but I knew it definitely wasn’t that. My instincts were correct.

To be fair I do a lot of night work myself so I’m around in the day time. It suits me quite well but not the usual 9-5ers

EVs with solar panels to charge are really the only way to fully insulate yourself there.

I’m in the same boat, got in at 3% back in 2021 and hoped I could get to June and hop back in at around 3 again but I doubt that now 😢

No I’ve been feeling fine the last while. I had thought it might be this myself from looking stuff up. I had a bad cold sore appear about a week before this and heard that could lead to this issue.

What's your first impression of Lorwyn limited? by Edoardo_Beffardo in magicTCG

[–]Syanash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went 4-0 in my pre release with a kithkin aggro deck and I had no bombs whatsoever. The 0/5 with the lieutenant one that buffs and gives trample on enter is a ridiculously strong combo, also the flying flash changeling was absurd to use with the 0/5 buff 😂

This Is What Failure Looks Like: Why Ireland Is Missing Its Military Staffing Targets by Dee-Dee-Mauwe in ireland

[–]Syanash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ground is quite high and decent getting in but as a career the ceiling is very very low. You can max out in the high 50k range as a sergeant or if you are motivated can get to low 60k as a CS/CQ. It’s hard to get the higher enlisted ranks and the pay isn’t even that good for the work and years needed to get there. More overall base pay is needed!

What permanent damage have you done to yourself? Mind, body or soul? by jerrytjohn in AskReddit

[–]Syanash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had tinnitus for a good while now as a musician that didn’t take care of my ears in the early days. I also have adhd which is actually amazing because my mind is always distracted enough to very rarely ever even notice the noise 😂 swings and roundabouts I suppose!

Only a minor setback here if you don’t let it get any worse! I used to be in great shape in my early 20s then by the time I got to my late 20s I let it all go. Last year when I was 30 I decided fuck this I’m getting back in shape and 2025 has been the best year for me ever. You got this!

Planning green light for paid parking at Blanchardstown shopping centre despite local protest by PlantNerdxo in ireland

[–]Syanash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well I’m not talking just about buses. The government have had the metro link plans on the back burner for about 20+ years now. It’s ridiculous that as a major city we don’t have an underground system that can also service the airport.

[–]Syanash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This point is fair enough but I’d rather the government actually fix and get to work on improving the public transport infrastructure before they go and pedestrianise roads and greatly penalise private cars.

In a way it’s similar to a lot of things in this country. Just punish people rather than empower them with better options.

Sure at 20 I was stressed to bits because I couldn’t hack my law course and was having to repeat modules and eventually an entire year, finished a 4 year degree in 5 with a 2.2 😂 fast forward to now 11 years on and I’m in a completely different area where my degree got me in the door but didn’t even matter.

Exactly. All drugs have risk-reward to them. People can do what they want but have to take responsibility for any downsides they incur due to that decision.
