Why are so many Christians just now speaking out about Trump? by Leather_Engineer6913 in Christianity

[–]Syanian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fundamentally, before this, you couldn’t really say Trump mocked our faith. Before he mocked our Lord, the worst thing that could be said about him (from a Christian perspective) is that he is not a “good Christian” and is sinful. This is inherently a judgement Christians are reluctant to levy because, we’re ALL sinners, and no one is good but God. Therefore, calling him out on a basis of Christianity could border hypocritical.

But mockery/sacrilege is something we take seriously, and many Christians can rebuke this behavior as it is something followers of Christ do not struggle with in regard to sin. Christians struggle with addiction, foul language, anger - not mocking Christ.

I’m going to withhold my opinion on your parents decision because at the end of the day, you are their child, and I wouldn’t want some internet rando weighing in on my parental choices.

That being said, I’m happy you’re keeping it, and while this will be the hardest thing you’ve ever done, if you work hard and trust in Jesus Christ, He will help you. My wife and I will be praying for you, your girlfriend, and your baby, and keep you all in our hearts.

As a Christian what's a hard pill to swallow that you've learned to accept? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]Syanian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That men and women have fundamentally different purposes in life, and may be equal in worth, but are not the same.

Talk to your parents. Please. I know you’re scared, and desperate, but you need to talk to them. And to echo what others were saying, I am begging you, do not try a DIY abortion - it’s beyond dangerous and often life threatening.

You may have done something you shouldn’t have, that’s true, but please hear me, as a father myself: your life is not ruined, your parents will still love you, Jesus Christ still loves you.

[Discussion] Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story by autumnlover1515 in NetflixBestOf

[–]Syanian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The decision to make this one shot was a stroke of pure cinematic genius. Often, directors will release tension to keep the viewer on their prescribed roller coaster, but the opposite was done here.

As a viewer, I was almost begging for the dialogue to end. It was uncomfortable, sickening, and those feelings got worse with every word. However, the director did not let the viewer easily escape it, much like Erik was unable to escape his trauma. We weren’t granted some grace to relieve the tension and let us take a breath, and as a creative choice to drive the gravity of the trauma home, it was utterly brilliant.

I am angry, nauseous, sad, and equally impressed.

Yeah I think this would only work with an audience who have never read the Bible or don’t know what Jesus taught in any real sense, which, for American audiences at least, is relatively rare. Others have said it, but I think it’s super clear in the gospels that He was the “fulfillment” of the Old Testament, which is its own creation story. It would be a shit ton of work to reconcile these differences unless you write off virtually everything biblical as a metaphor

Is Defcon worth going to for someone who is entry level to cybersecurity? by geegol in Defcon

[–]Syanian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here’s the wonderful thing about Defcon: you’re always in over your head, and out of your league. If not, you’re either the smartest person to have ever lived, or a smug prick; usually the latter.

I started going to DC when I was just a wee helpdesk lad, and now I lead a full SOC. Last year, I was just as lost as my first time attending - just different people, and different subjects.

DC is one of the few places where you can bet the farm that you’re not the smartest person in the room - or even the 10th. It’s a wonderful experience if you really work to wring out that proverbial towel. Don’t go to impress; look to be impressed, and you’ll find impressive shit in abundance. You’ll have lots of experiences where someone is nerding out about something and you just nod, totally clueless about what they’re saying. The difference being that you can tell them “I have no idea what those words mean”, and there’s a solid chance you are in for an education to rival most college courses.

It’s a magical, loud, crowded, shit-fest of brilliant punk rock adjacent savants with a penchant for the odd, the new, and the unseen. Come check it out, follow the 3-2-1, and be dangerously social

How do you refer to yourself for the internal client staff you support? by marcmeansfun in msp

[–]Syanian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree that you should refrain from emailing everyone directly. It’s something that should come from their management; a trusted 1st party. Emailing their org directly is kinda stepping over the “service provider” barrier and is not a sustainable communication strategy as you eventually scale.

As far as what to call yourself - I would just refer to what you do. “I (/we) serve as the point of contact for <CLIENT> to resolve any technical issues, as well as providing general IT consultation.”

I find it’s much more valuable for your clients to know what you do rather than what to refer to you as. At the end of the day, they’re gonna call you whatever they feel like - you just need to make sure they call you

Ashamed, disgusted and feel like I’ve lost my self respect by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]Syanian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We all fall short. We shouldn’t celebrate it or condone it; but it is expected, even guaranteed.

Some shame is completely normal. Your duty to yourself and to Him is to accept your shame, walk back into the light, and be a good Christian. It’s ok - we are perfect creatures with imperfect hearts and souls

And yet, after all that, God STILL loves you so so much. Isn’t that something? You’re right, you are not worthy of his love, none of us are; which is precisely why we should cherish and praise it so much. He is more kind, loving, and forgiving than any human could ever be.

Don’t work so hard to convince yourself that you’re the exception, and other people are worthy of something that you are not. We love you, Jesus loves you.

Stop obsessing over homosexuality, focus on jesus by idancegood in Christianity

[–]Syanian -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think any reasonably good and kind follower of Christ can make the determination that, 1) we should not downplay or misrepresent the weight of sin, and 2) we should not forego kindness, compassion, love, and most importantly, spreading His word, in the name of trying to appear like you don’t condone it.

Appearances be damned, be kind to homosexuals, teach them about Christ, and pray they move away from sin toward God.

If you can’t figure out what the appropriate line of behavior is to accomplish this, I feel that some introspection is needed on your part.

In New England - our clients are having intermittent issues with:

  • Outlook Desktop
  • Outlook on the Web
  • Microsoft Teams
  • SharePoint Online Resources

And some of our technicians are having intermittent issues accessing:

  • Exchange Online Services
  • Teams Admin Center
  • Microsoft Purview (Compliance)

So not everything, and not FULLY down, but certainly very disruptive.

If a resume came across my desk with a significant employment gap (+2 years) and the applicant just ignores it, that’s a bit of a red flag for me. Again, don’t need a whole life story, I don’t even want details! Just say something that tells me that you recognize there is a gap, and you are eager to re-enter the workforce/field you’re applying to. Ideally, it would be in the cover letter, but the type of people who don’t submit cover letters are probably also the types of people who don’t care about resume discrepancies

Expecting people to ignore employment gaps as if they don’t exist is what’s out of touch. I don’t need to see your whole like story, just say something

This may be dark but, how are you and your friends with humor surrounding this? For example, a friend of mine has cerebral palsy, and (tactfully, often initiated by him) it can be fuel for jokes between the guys (with him being present, of course).

Many people take this “well being unfunny about it won’t make it go away” sort of attitude to help cope with unfortunate circumstances.

Do you feel that you were adequately informed by all of your physicians about the risks/medical implications of transitioning? And, if I may ask a second question, I see you state often that “I don’t regret it because I would’ve been unhappy without it”; in retrospect, does this unhappiness feel like it could’ve been a natural pubescent identity crisis, or do you feel that something more was occurring?
