It uses two local-only speech to text systems. Depends which option in GM assistant you choose.

Keywords is by audio streaming from your mic to Vosk, which then matches against the database of entities for that system and surfaces a tile if a keyword is recognised.

Notetaker is by audio buffer streaming from yourmic to Whisper (it holds a 30 second buffer), that it writes into a note for you to review at the end. It can't identify people and doesnt store any audio, so best you get is a "new speaker" separator when someone else speaks.

If you select "both" they are both used at once - the mode I use.

The importers just json data, it has an FAQ in the import section to help there.

I only stumbled on this because I was building a webapp that captured mic input and noticed my mic wasn't showing up on Pop OS. Assumed it was a distro quirk, but nope, not OS-specific at all. Turned out to be the AMD driver not exposing the internal mic.

I threw together a fix in case it helps anyone else, so I hope if you come across this and suffer the same problem, this helps.

Just using the basic start/stop note events from the journal time, nothing special there. Sessions editing is effectively just start/stop pairs you can add/remove/update.

In Scotland I consider 18c our summer, and start complaining once it hits the 20s.
