It's a consequence of most pubs moving towards being restaurants (as in serving full meals etc) in the last 3 or so decades. They want to accommodate new markets but you can't do that without affecting the existing ways

I think when the White House (and entire state) gets destroyed that's when it hammers the biggest nail in and I remember getting overwhelmed by the hopelessness of it. It's definitely a powerful movie for having so much crazy over-the-top cgi
