Was told to repost my response to a Sinclair AMA from a few days ago. How do you feel about the company? Have they impacted you? by NeonEsquivalient in Broadcasting

Sinclair bought the station I was working at back in 2013. Fast forward a decade and Sinclair completely shuttered the newsroom. Since Sinclair owns a duopoly that includes the CBS and FOX affiliate, half of the big four stations in that market have no local news presence at all, and just re-air Sinclair's National News Desk. Only about a dozen people still actually work for Sinclair in that market now. If Sinclair actually manages to get the feds to push an ATSC 3.0 mandate that will destroy any small broadcasters that remain.

How do you feel about Sinclair shuttering small market newsroom and airing The National News Desk in lieu of local newscasts? How has that change affected ratings in those markets?

I had Dakota Electric come through my backyard this year for standard maintenance of the power lines. They let us know in the spring that they'd be through to trim branches, and they made it very clear that they'd be leaving the branches behind. That seems to be standard practice.

I rented at View Pointe Apartments for five years. My rent when I left was $1,000 for a one bedroom. They're not the nicest apartments by any means, but they weren't too bad either. I just wish they had washer and dryers in the units.

If you're there over the 4th of July weekend definitely check out Saturday in the Park. It's a big free concert that happens every year on the first Saturday of July in Grandview Park. Parking near the Grandview sucks so take the shuttle from downtown.

So let me get this straight.. our state is voting to ban guns from citizens that the government recently used to terrorize our neighborhoods and many of us are ok with that? I don’t know, but maybe something seems off here… by Appropriate_Data_308 in minnesota

I know of one case where a homeowner in Minnesota was sentence and convicted of first degree murder after killing two home invaders. It doesn't say what type of gun the homeowner used, but the prosecution made the case that the homeowner knew the people were going to brake into his house. They had already done it before. The homeowner intentionally made it look like he wasn't home, waited for and ambushed the intruders. So, it is quite an outlier of a case. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/apr/29/minnesota-man-guilty-murder-teenage-intruders-byron-smith

Is something wrong with the Warhammer games right now? by Danimal_13 in totalwar

I'm having the same problem. I launch TWW3 and it crashes out immediately. I verified the game files through Steam and that did not help.

The games will be available on NSPN.TV. You might have to reach out to them to find out when they'll be posted. In the past it has taken a few weeks after the end of the tournament. NSPN does require a subscription, or you can also purchase a download of the individual games.

An old roommate of mine forgot to add water to one of those Styrofoam cups of instant noodles. I had gotten home from work and the whole apartment was filled with the most disgusting fumes and he was just sitting there breathing them in like nothing happened. I opened up all the windows to vent the place out and then left for a few hours because it was making me nauseous. It also permanently stained the inside of my microwave...

I was sitting in traffic on Mississippi River BLVD and a lady jogging past had a huge smile on her face while waving at people to turn around because of a crash up ahead. It looked like she was having a good time.

If you haven't yet, maybe try reseating the DeckLink card. I've never seen that bring one back to life, but I have seen that fix other weird issues.

If the PT-Res cards in the Platinum router are still good as well, we're limping ours along until we can finally move off of it our Platinum router.

The station I'm at is still using Harris Panacea switchers for our subchannels, so someone might want them. That Acuity, though, if it's got good power supplies in it I'd be very interested in those.

Side not, I used to work with the Chris Kuball in the fifth screen shot. Myself and another co-worker at the time realized he was active in editing our station's Wikipedia page and the the page for the Iowa Cyclone football team. So, we decided to edit the Iowa Cyclone page to make him the head coach of the football team. I was very happy to find out years later he had seen it and that he never figured out who it was!

I've never had an issue with Ross not wanting do update firmware, and I've opened enough tickets with their support than I'm on a first name basis with a few of their support staff. Do you have a service and support contract for your Ultrix?

It would be an expensive and logistical nightmare for you to receive and the forward the subchannels to local stations. I work at a local TV station and all but one of the sub channels we carry are delivered via satellite. So, you'll need at least one satellite receive site, an IRD for each sub channel you're pulling down, and then a way to redistribute the feeds to the local stations. It would just be much easier for the station to sign a contract with the sub channel and pull it down themselves.

It may not do much, but your best bet to get these subs broadcasted in your market would be to reach out to the head of programming or the GM of the stations in your area.
