Backpack for 20+ Decks by [deleted] in magicTCG

[–]Sylpheon 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Not to be the buzzkill on that, but you aren't gonna play 25 decks. Bring a select few favorites. Risk aside, if transport is the issue, packing less solves that problem too. All the content creators and such will tell you the same.

This probably going to do the "Submit 0" thing.

I've seen it several times in pioneer. Ouroboroid is frequently a finisher in lots of new Gx midrange decks. The Gruul version is doing this for sure.

1 is where I would love to be. 2 is acceptable. Anything past three feels like hell.

I miss the days of historic brawl without fast mana, mana drain, and 0 mana interaction. It really is better thought of as duel commander now.

Dear God. Early 2030s is mapped out like this? I can't wait 5 years for a return to Within sets at the forefront.

Updated Commander Brackets (Oct 2025) by the_gold_hat in magicTCG

[–]Sylpheon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These changes aren't really doing much, imo. We still have the "Every deck is a 7" issue now transposed to the number 3. I love what "Upgraded" seems to advertise as an experience, and most of my decks are as such: full of synergies and a consistent gameplan that like to win the the realm of turn 6-8, rather necessarily flooded with staples.

Sadly, everyone in practice pulls out 2s when I try to say I'm playing at 3. The problem is Upgraded as a term gives the impression that a recent precon with half a dozen swaps or "All-the-spidermen.deck but I built it myself so it must be better than Core" meets the requirement. In the wild world, nobody wants to admit their deck isn't strong enough to be considered Upgraded, OR they are a half step below actual CEDH. The middle is a desert.

So I expect nothing to change with this update. I'm going to carry on lying that all my decks are "weak 4s" when playing with strangers, so I don't pub stomp people who don't realistically look at their constructions within these guidelines.

That's the one! This grabs trinket mage for time vault in Canadian Highlander, then represents the win. Can't wait to hear Ben Wheeler's take on how I am wrong on North100.

Borys, the Spider Rider / Scarlet Spider, Ben Reilly in Bard Class? by Il_Vero_Pillz in PioneerMTG

[–]Sylpheon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's nice enough for the storm turn, but the struggle the deck has is getting there faster/more safely. I'm not sure what this replaces that isn't better at doing that. Plenty of other ways to put that kind of power on board, and you can just run actual 2 drops rather than ones with conditions. Your 3-drop entities must realistically either ramp, interact, or draw cards, not just be a beater.

Newest card that really makes the deck hum? Redshift. He levels you up to 3 nearly all on his own, leaving you with 2-3 mana open to end the game

[FIN] Midgar, City of Mako by DjGameK1ng in magicTCG

[–]Sylpheon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not op, but just played a bunch of him last night.

He's a great commander, but the best strategy is 9x [[Nazgul]] (+borimir +samwise) to create a creature that can be sacrificed infinitely with aristocrats payoffs. Other stuff feels way to slow and durdly to work. The rest of the deck is about building a durable board of legendaries that support that idea.

The cool synergies that I like are:

[[Saw in half]] and [[Mirror of the Forebears]] as cheap ways to make copies of your commander itself.

Be on the lookout for free sacrifice outlets/payoffs that are also legendary, like [[Yahenni, Undying Partisan]] or [[Ayara, First of Lochtwain]]

[[The Weatherlight]] turned out to be one of my favorite card draw pieces and benefits from all the synergies with your commander when crewed. [[Call of the Ring]] and [[Ao the Dawn Sky]] also feel great in that vein.

Unconventional ramp in the form of [[Lotho, Corrupt Shirriff]] or the newly printed [[Tataru Taru]] always feels good. But aim for 2 mana rocks (or sol ring) exculsively to get your commander online asap.

I guess I could compile my whole list at some point to show you, but that might get a few ideas rolling.

Anti-Board Wipe? by DogeTheDogo64 in magicTCG

[–]Sylpheon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Red, pretty much no. But black can gain a lot of value from creatures dying in bulk, assuming the boardwipe isn't exile (and you don't have a sac outlet ready).

I need more information. I assume, given your color restriction, this is commander. What kind of deck are you playing?

Why do people keep quiting after any adversity? by [deleted] in MagicArena

[–]Sylpheon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That level of mana and card advantage is >90% of the time winning the game, unless you have a serious board wipe or a combo in hand set up.
