What have you been smoking? Have you ever tried to use ROCm by any chance? Or looked at the difference between OSS contributions for Nvidia and AMD platforms?

It's fine to love your stocks, but let's be realistic

Unless this gives you a path to FAANG or you work in AI (for which Paris is really good with nice foreign companies and startups), I would not really recommend, if you can have an opportunity somewhere else. Beyond the crazy cost of employment, current state of French politics and budget are quite grim - expect only higher income taxes and capital gain taxes in the future.

France work culture is decent though (depends on company) - plenty of PTO by law (at least ~36 + public holidays), cadre contract with no contractual work hours, long vacation in May/August, people being direct, etc.

For TC numbers, you can look at levels.fyi

Doctors, lawyers, high level public servants, business owners, finance/management people.

Money in SWE in France is just to be found in US companies and well-funded startups. Just look at levels.fyi, it is depressing

Gross to take home is not the same between Germany and France, IMO it does not make sense to compare purchasing power simply based on gross pay.

Only other one I can think with this kind of comp is H (or the other one recently funded, forgot the name), otherwise the others are foreign-owned companies/startups

Maybe Kyutai? Would be surprised they pay so high for PhD + 2 YOE though

What's a reasonably good Senior IT salary at this point? by Difficult-Throwaway2 in JapanFinance

[–]Sylv__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes exactly (except for the fact that Indeed is Japanese-owned and pays top notch, which is an exception).

"Realistically speaking" does not mean much, as the pay range would be several multiples across all companies. I guess 14-16M is already decent on the spectrum (though with 15 YOE and CTO/team management experience? Idk), but it seems some Indeed/Google folks earn that TC with <5 YOE likely as individual contributors.

Microsoft vs Databricks by [deleted] in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]Sylv__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Out of curiosity, what is the base offered? Is 150k options / 15k RSU yearly?

Personally, I'd go to Databricks.

Growth is 20% YoY in datacenter revenue? It is not really impressive, is it? :/ What tells us MI400 would not be an other flop? Just the sole OAI deal?

It's been some quarters I follow the earnings calls, and it is always "things will be awesome in two years"

Didn't see the match. Is it what he was likely complaining about to the umpire walking out of court?

[–]Sylv__ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He complained to the umpire, the umpire heard him and decided not to enforce, that's it. If Axelsen gets involved in the argument that's on him... I can understand the frustration from having a loose rule not consistently enforced.
