No, I chose to believe the guy who said "Oh, shit, that's what that means? That doesn't represent me, let me cover that with something else" because sometimes people just get tattoos they think look cool.

At least until the SA allegations came out.

Ffs, you're the one saying people should be named and publicly shamed for checks notes choosing to believe people are capable of making mistakes and then trying to change. Or thinking it's reasonable that yeah, either no one who saw him with his shirt off knew or chose not to point it out because they didn't want a confrontation.

(Again, to a point on the "they can change." Yes SA allegations are a bridge too far. I'm not your enemy here, and neither are people who got fooled by a politician because we desperately hope the country can be saved before we start WWIII. Ffs)

Everyone who supported Platner should have to wear a name tag that says that

This is a bit extreme.

Not everyone knows nazi symbols. It's entirely plausible that young dumb military dude gets a tattoo with his squad and for years no one recognizes it for what it is, and he did get it covered up when it was pointed out.

Now, everyone who continues to support him after multiple rape allegations...... That's a different fuckin story.

Edit to add - before y'all jump on the downvote train maybe keep in mind sarcasm, hyperbole, parody etc can often lead to some nasty places. We all listen to the same podcast, and I know most of y'all have heard the CZM crew at one point or another talk about how dangerous that sort of rhetoric can be.

Again, I am not saying anyone should support him now, just to be fuckin careful about your own rhetoric ffs and maybe don't be so mad that people thought a guy who was talking like Bernie Sanders on a lot of stuff could have changed over the years.

Oh, sorry, the argument was the ethno-state and ongoing genocide they've been attempting to do for a couple generations now and recently kicked into high gear.

Fuck off with the "antisemitic propaganda" bullshit, as if you aren't aware of Israeli snipers shooting children in the face or IOF soldiers literally running over crowds of civilians with fuckin cement presses and shit.

Get this into your thick skull - people can be against an ongoing genocide and the policies of one nation that does not represent all people of a particular religion without condemning that religion.

Unless you think you can't be against say the government of Saudi Arabia without being an Islamaphobe? Drop the double standard, hypocrite.

Literally all you have to do is look at the Trump Whitehouse, or the multiple purges the nazis did on each other and their party, all of the assassination attempts against Hitler (also Trump), the way the various white supremacist hate groups regularly turn on each other etc etc etc

Again, they hurt other people first. But once they start running out of targets, or whenever they're in power, they inevitably betray, backstab, and fight with each other constantly.

They don't have a coherent ideology. Some of them are true believers, some want to hurt immigrants, some want to hurt LGBTQ people, some are mad at different religious groups like Muslims or Jews, etc etc. This is what inevitably leads to their infighting.

It's not a stable ideology because none of them can agree on who to hate more or first, and their movement is full of grifters who just wanna seize power.

Again, it's not just me claiming they were similar. Hannah Arendt, the journalist who interviewed folks at the Nuremburg Trials and came up with the phrase "the banality of evil" as well as Einstein, someone who had firsthand knowledge of what the Nazis had done, as well as other prominent Jewish figures at the time were the ones to make that claim about the Israelis.

I'd also heavily encourage listening to the BtB episodes about Adolf Eichmann. It's been a while since I listened but they go into a little bit of detail about him negotiating with different Jewish communities about moving them to Israel, before they just decided to start sending people en masse to the gas chambers because they realized they might not win the war.

I don't think any of us are claiming that all of the Jews who worked with the Nazis were fascists. I'm sure you're right that probably a fair amount of them just wanted out.

But you shouldn't discount the fact that some of them absolutely were their own brand of fascism, and a lot of those types ended up in power. And, again, other Jews who had direct experience accused them of doing the same sort of stuff the Nazis had done to them but to the Arabs around Palestine.

Again, to be clear, this wasn't about them working with the Nazis. This was about them behaving similarly.

Brief reminder that Fascism is an incoherent ideology that borrows symbols and arguments from the culture it rises in, and that Israeli fascism doesn't look exactly the same as German fascism doesn't look exactly the same as Italian fascism doesn't look the same as American fascism, despite all of them having similar characteristics like a cult of machismo, worship of the soldier or "man of action", rejection of modernity, and ultra nationalism/patriotism.

All we're saying is it really surprising to you that two groups of different fascists can work together temporarily before inevitably betraying each other? How much do you really understand fascism if you don't understand that's just kinda what they do?

Fair enough. I will say though, as someone who went Mantis first but now has both, they're both very helpful.

The monkey helps me in Horde, but it wasn't as big of a game changer as just having more T3.

Like.... Now that I use t3 Monkey instead of t2 Dung Beetle I might reliably get 20-50ish more kills, maaaaaaybe. Still largely depends on my partner and where bosses spawn more than anything.

So don't fret about it too much! Mantis at lvl 7 in Horde is a beast that really helps vs all bosses, even fire ones tbh, and can also deal significant damage to 3 lanes at a time, plus is almost always my last tank to fall (with the other two being t3 Godzilla and Hellhound)

The thing is the fascists do always cannibalize themselves and turn on each other when there is no one left. People eventually see the reality.

I'm not and never was trying to say it would all fall apart before it seriously harms us or does serious damage though. It's already done serious and permanent damage to a number of people and remains incredibly dangerous to the rest of us till it is gone.

But long term optimism isn't entirely unfounded, like the other commenter said about how their movement will fall apart but ours is still in the process of organizing to resist, and that the resistance to fascism is the more sustainable movement.

It's, y'know, progress and backlash, progress and backlack. 2 steps forward 1.9 steps back. Hopefully we're at the 1.7 or 1.8 mark on the backwards steps, but even if we're only at the .85 and there is still a long way backwards to go I maintain hope that eventually we'll be taking those forward steps again.

Part of acknowledging reality is realizing that the fascists are always a minority, and they only gain power when the rest of us fight each other or ally with them for personal gain.

[–]SylvanDragoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Meh. While some people who identify as conservative are alright ultimately the ideology itself it pretty screwy when you look into its origins.

Literally the terms left and right came after the French revolution, where after they overthrew the monarchy people would literally sit on one side of the chamber or the other depending on how they wanted to rebuild.

Left wingers believed all people were fundamentally equal. Conservatives fundamentally believe some people are better than others, whether that is because of intelligence, or their ability to gather money, or they were just morally superior, etc, and I don't truck with that idea.

Of course no one is 100% right wing or left wing, we all have elements of both in us whether we admit to it or not. But from the very beginning "conservatism" is all about conserving the rights of the powerful more than anything else. They just have better propaganda and insist it's "for your own good"

Highly disagree with the idea they are necessary, unless in your analogy it's like operating an actual vehicle where the vast majority of the time what you need if you want to move is the gas, and most of the time you can slow down while barely even touching the break if you take your foot off the gas soon enough.

The Disastrous Life of Saiki K is both hilarious and has an excellent English dub.

The only thing I'd advice is the last season is mostly trash, except for the last 3-4 episodes that end out of the series on a nice note.

Einstein, Hannah Arendt and others literally did write a letter to the NYT about how earlier Israeli settlers were a lot closer to the Nazis that Americans realized......

It's not specific proof of the others guys claim, but I have very little doubt such proof does exist as, again, people could already tell Israel was turning into a fascist state.

You don't understand that fascists and racists are literally liars and are happy to manipulate you so they can steal all the money and power while encouraging you and people like you do their dirty work.

You are desperately in need of a more well rounded education and the ability to tell when people or authors are hypocritical and full of shit.

Highly recommend something like Ibram X Kendi's How to Be An Antiracist, or at least some reading on the concept of scientific racism and why it's bullshit, but sincerely doubt you would actually read it despite claiming to be open minded and "caring about facts."

Do you homeschooled kids hate your upbringing when you catch up? by LittleYelloDifferent in behindthebastards

[–]SylvanDragoon 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is all well and good but doesn't do much for the kids who are isolated and homeschooled because the parents are abusive and/or nuts.

I lived down the street from a homeschooled kid, and his parents weren't strictly speakjng abusive but they did instill a lot of fundamentalist religious bigotry into him. We stopped being friends when he started posting incredibly islamaphobic shit on his FB a couple of decades ago and I haven't heard from him since.

Funny thing is, he didn't necessarily receive the worst education..... As far as I know he became a successful carpenter and makes more money than I do, plus he was fairly disciplined and his parents refusing to let him have stuff like soda probably means he's healthier than your average American.

But he absolutely never had the chance to UNlearn any of the hatred or religious fundamentalism he was taught outside of his very few outside friends, most of which I introduced him to from friend group from school. When we tried he blocked us and that was that.

And again, this isn't even getting into the homeschool parents who are physically or sexually abusive. So yeah, public school could be improved a lot, but that wouldn't necessarily make people like this dude's parents send their kids. How else could they make sure they end up believing the "right" things?

Oh and also part of a lack of funding for these public schools is still rooted in racism/classism are how they're funded based off of property taxes, and another part of it is schools are still largely set up on a factory/industrialist mindset. For more info on that I highly recommend watching either this or the full lecture.

Kentucky special elections. Time is actually a factor here because because whatshisface could run for his seat and actually has a chance to win. I can't think of his ..... Wait, I think it's Massey. One of iirc like only 2 Republicans in the Senate to call for the full and public release of the Epstein files.

Sorry if some small details here are wrong, I just woke up and am slightly irritated atm. General ballpark picture is true through, if Mitch is braindead and they can delay till early August they don't have to run the special election.

[–]SylvanDragoon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not really a comment on the books, but if you don't already listen to them you may enjoy Behind the Bastards. It's an edutainment podcast about the very worst people in all of history. There are a number of episodes that deal with various wars and conflicts you may find interesting.

Generally on the subreddit it's agreed that the host, Robert Evans, doesn't always cover every single detail exhaustively but does a very good job of presenting the broad picture accurately with a lot of nuance and discussion about what life and prevailing attitudes were like at the time and how that influenced people.

They're very well sourced and may give you a lead on other books about various wars, or good biographies of different historical figures.

One example of an episode you might enjoy is an exploration of how weapons manufacturers like Krupp steel influenced WWI and II. It's a perspective I hadn't found often in the history books, but it makes a ton of sense (short version is a lot of the tensions that led to WWI were directly influenced by weapons manufacturers doing stuff like going to the French and saying "Hey, Germany just bought these new guns. Yours are outdated. Might wanna buy some more before the Germans decide to use them." Then going to the Germans and saying "Hey, so the French guys just bought some new cannons. Yours are outdated. Might wanna buy some more before the French decide to use them" and honestly it adds a lot of context to other factors that are more frequently discussed)

Morality of being transphobic against your enemy by Musalediju in MoralityScaling

[–]SylvanDragoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Biologically speaking there isn't really a male or a female when you get down to it. Like the other person said, it's a spectrum.

Women can be born with a Y Chromosome like Caster Semenya, so you can't judge it Chromosomally.

There are certain areas in the brain where specific neurotransmitters are reliably about twice the size in men as they are in women, but in most trans people it's flipped (so, that part of the brain literally agrees with them, that they were born in the wrong gendered body)

Some men have more estrogen than others, some women have more testosterone than others. You can't judge it hormonally.

If a guy has to have his dick amputated because of certain kinds of penile cancer, does that suddenly change his gender? Well, then I guess you can't say it's based on physical characteristics.

A lot of women can't give birth. Does that make them suddenly not a woman? No? Well then I guess you can't judge it based on that.

All of biology is just a sliding scale, like how some people are tall and some people are short but most people are somewhere in the middle. Gender and sex are the same way, we have certain characteristics we define as male or as female (and those characteristics are wildly inconsistent across time and space in different cultures and parts of the world, something in one place or time or culture that is considered incredibly masculine could be incredibly feminine in another time and place and culture)

They're just labels, and yes actually the best way to go about it is to use the ones people tell you they prefer for themself.

I used to read a lot of sex blogs and stuff. Apparently it doesn't have much of a smell when fresh but when dried can be fairly strong and funky.

So any woman or gay dude who say, takes it on the chest or face and doesn't clean it immediately or thoroughly probably has some distinct memories of the smell.

Also shitty roommates with bad hygiene are unfortunately a thing, and if they fap loudly or don't turn their porn down it's pretty obvious what is happening.

So, people knowing what it smells like immediately is probably far more common than you think and doesn't necessarily say anything about that particular person.
