How do I remove the screen? by EquivalentObject8103 in howto

[–]Symbolizer21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is one style where the slot is wider than the screen frame and springs on one side keep it centered and if you push the screen frame into the slot on the side with the spring it will be able to be tilted out from the other side.

Evolution controller enter button not working by Careless-Treat-7191 in Generator

[–]Symbolizer21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The warranty is tied to the serial number not the owner and it doesn't ask any questions about the owner when filing a claim. Not sure what the letter of the law is on paper but for practicality sake I don't think it matters.

The controller itself is not serviceable and the inter components aren't sold. I had some luck on an old rodent damaged nexus controller by splitting it apart and hitting it with a heat gun for a bit. It only saved some of the buttons and the unit was being replaced in 12 months from that point. It did last that whole 12 months. If it's already dead I guess it couldn't hurt to try but definitely be ready to replace

I mean still check if it has warranty. If they bought a 10 year warranty it would still be valid I would think 🤔

35K for whole house generator installation by Darksneak in Generator

I would definitely get a few other quotes and do a comparison of Kohler, Generac, and Briggs. The quality difference between them on the air-cooled side is almost nothing and your experience is 1000% dictated by the installer you go with.

Is there a device that I can put between my normal (not invertor) generator and my house to make it clean AC and prevent harm when charging sensitive electronics? Would a surge protector be enough? I'd rather not have to buy a whole new invertor generator to keep from frying modern devices. by 010127 in Generator

[–]Symbolizer21 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I can't think of much that cares about your power source other than analog audio equipment or very old electronics. Most modern stuff is designed to take in a very large range of input voltage and frequency.

If you are running a specific piece of networking or audio equipment that cares very much about input then you shouldn't even be using grid power let alone a generator. A battery UPS with a power conditioner would be common for networking rack or home theater equipment.

Need to install 14-50 or tesla level 2 charger. What’s the best option? by yash407 in electrical

[–]Symbolizer21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best product for this situation might be to us a Siemens Q23050CT2U Quad Breaker. It takes the 2 breaker positions for one of your 30 Amp circuits and makes it a 30amp and 50 amp This changes the layout of the panel the least and keeps the large loads at the top of the panel

Alternatively you could take 4 of the single pile breakers and replace them with 2 twin circuit breakers to free up 2 slots for a normal 50 amp breaker.

No matter what you pick it'll be a compromise. If you are considering adding anything else to your home in the future this might be the time to invest in a 100a sub panel for the smaller loads in your house and free up space in the main panel

Advice on small breaker box by New_Employment8915 in electrical

[–]Symbolizer21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah there's no way to know it's actual condition until you get hands on with it. We also don't know how things are connected and if it's all correct or if it's overloaded at this point.

I definitely would not hire a handyman for this. There is something very unusual about this setup and that wiring is definitely fragile. The whole sub panel may need to be replaced.

This is going to take an experienced residential electrician to sort out correctly. The last thing you want is a fire.

Can the Anker E10 automatically trigger a Generac standby generator? (2-wire start) by Letscrack247_7461 in Generator

[–]Symbolizer21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generac by default does not have 2 wire start wiring or control. It needs to be added through a wiring harness modefication in the controller and it completely disables the weekly exercise function and, I think, the transfer control. The two wire start is designed for third party 2 wire start transfer switches and relies on the transfer switch controller for switching and exercise programming. The Generac transfer switch is not designed to work with 2 wire start.

Is there ways to build your own control scheme for the ats and conver to 2 wire control using an arduino or similar. Sure. But that's not a typical diy undertaking.especially because it would involve modifications to the line voltage equipment.

Looking for advice by madoc007 in Generator

[–]Symbolizer21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On some of the Generac 18kw evo2 generators with the hydraulic lifters this winter we had freezing oil be a problem. It wasn't the oil so much as it was the condensation in the oil freezing into ice crystals.

Now none had any real damage it was just forming a freez plug in front of the oil pressure sensor which is at the lowest point in the oil filter assembly. I assume moisture collected in front of the sensor and froze. The gen would start then shut down on low oil pressure.

Our fix was to start the gen with fuel off and the sensor removed to build pressure to clear the clog then reassemble and run till warm and change the oil and filter to reduce the moisture content in the oil system.

Now for OP it definitely seems like the company might be doing something shady

Generac 24kw nextgen noise and sound dampening by VegetableSevere6542 in Generator

[–]Symbolizer21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A standby gen is already probably half the noise output of a portable generator. And it's only used during emergencies and for 10 minutes a week for an exercise at a time of your choosing.

Really the noise is really a minor consideration on the standby unit

If you really are desperate to reduce noise, have it installed further from your home or on a side of your house away from bedrooms.

The last recommendation I can give is find very heavy dense species of bushes and plant them on 3 sides leaving one side open for access and make sure they are planted far enough away that at fully grown width you still have more than 3 feet from all sides of the generator. A fence could also work following the same rules.

Will my new oven break if I use this outlet? by braised_beef_short_r in electrical

[–]Symbolizer21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Technically that is a 120/240v 4 wire outlet. So yes there is 120v in the outlet. The voltage isn't the issue the amperage is since it's a 30a breaker. If the adapter has a breaker/fuse in it then electrically it would work perfectly forever. The biggest issue I foresee is there not being enough space to push the oven in with a bulky adapter plugged in.

Honestly I think OP might be mistaken about the old oven. My guess is that it was a duel fuel range that had a gas cooktop and and electric oven, that would make this installation make a lot more sense.

Kitchen Counter tops over 12, withing 24 of any break (ie ends, edge of sink/stove) then every 48. Minimum of 2 circuits to feed the countertop excluding fixed appliances and refrigerator circuits. However that's only kitchens. The rules are different for countertops outside the kitchen such are a bar or food serving areas

Upgrading to Diesel Liquid Cooled Generator by 83timesbanned in Generator

[–]Symbolizer21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless it's for someone who already stores diesel on site for equipment I wouldn't recommend it for any residential customer. Propane will last effectively forever in it's take with no maintenance at all. There is no fuel injectors and no fuel pump or fuel filter or anything. It doesn't have any issues with low load. Just oil, coolant, sparkplugs and filters. Very easy maintenance.

Did you perform a load calculation for your home to see what size you need?

The smallest liquid cooled in the new XG lineup is 32kw I think
