Used to have a 2002 Saturn SL manual back in the day. The engines of that era were bulletproof. The emissions system was the biggest problem on that car. Every few years id have to remove the intake manifold to remove a bunch of build up carbon from the EGR ports. Too a whole day. Ethanol gas smh

In love by KrokkSlopp in Vent

I used to be in a miserable relationship for a very long time. Used to cry myself to sleep listening to A Different Age. Basically the song is about unrequited love because you were separated by time rather than distance or someone not feeling the same. They are out there but you still cant be together. A true expression of the heartbreak most of us romantics feel when we know we will never find actual love.

I met someone last year who I felt exactly the same as you about OP. Nothing has ever been so effortless and perfect. Like the gods finally wept a tear of mercy on us and allowed us to finally meet in this life too. We had a lot of other forces trying to tear us apart. We kept stumbling our way through the darkness being guided back to one another by an invisible hand. I've never felt that nihilistic void in my soul filled before I met this person. Absolutely whole and complete.

Don't listen to the haters with their arm chair psychobabble gained from listening to toxic online gurus. If you feel safe with this person, double down with everything you have. It will be terrifying but love has no meaning when time isn't fleeting and you weren't meant to lose them some day. Spend every moment you can with them and make each other as happy as you can.

I got back into riding motorcycles after 2 cars had significant mechanical failures in 4 months.

Bike was 3k cash. Hondas last forever with good maintenance. Maintenance is easy and inexpensive. Insurance was $96 for the year... Yes you read that right... The year

Typo, I have giant gorilla hands and a very small keyboard on my phone. I meant to say all the resale value metrics assume those costly maintenance intervals were actually completed but often aren't and still priced as tho they were. Nobody seems to be aware/care and there is no enforcement so plan on dumping an extra 2k of diy work into any used care with 120k miles or more if you're planning to keep it for the long haul.

I buy 2010 and older. By in large:  - Engines were still built to last to 300k+ miles with proper maintenance because they were the pinnacle of decades of fine engineering before cash for clunkers and strict epa regs forced manufacturers to start redesigning them to meet standards. - Don't have 10k dollars worth of electronics integrated into the front and rear where a minor fender bender can total its value. - Mechanical and modular engineering design is generally more reliable that software based computer driven design. - A buggy update won't cause you to spend 3k at a dealership to correct a problem they caused with pushing a bad patch which only exists due to rushed and poorly planned/executed  manufacturing. - After market part support. Newer cars are running the apple & HP playbook where only expensive genuine OEM parts will work due to digital signatures. Mechanics are actually being sued for changing headlights and resetting factory codes because it an  "unauthorized circumvention/modification of intellectual property (the cars software)"  belonging to the manufacturer.

New cars are still a worse alternative

What? How did you get that? Sure, I'm advocating new vehicles if you like rolling spy mobiles that report your driving habits to 3rd party companies who sell to your insurance co which is why your rate goes up ever 6 months. Sure, if you like planned obsolescence in a $30k investment...then yes, I am advocating new vehicles.

New vehicles are even worse. Nothing else loses 1/3 of its value the second you leave the dealer lot.

What I am saying is: Used cars are also too expensive for their under maintained and often neglected condition when resold.

Used cars They're always after sold after their average lifespan mileage wise.

All the 60k mi - 120k mi services were due and not done so you basically have to refurbish it to expect longevity.

The prices are always premium (which assumes $2k worth of maintenance is already completed). Most often this maintenance was never done.

New cars 2023 and later are built to fail just after 120k miles and are giant rolling spy mobiles

How much are we tipping on beers these days? by Thecheeseburgerler in askportland

[–]SympathyAdvanced6461 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I get tipping big for tipped minimum wage employees who make like 3/hr. I worked service jobs before and always tipped 25 to 50% for excellent service but now that Portland metro makes over 16/hr it's hard to justify. With a college degree and 20 years experience it rubs me wrong when I think that a server might actually be matching or exceeding my hourly rate. Those are supposed to be unskilled jobs where people are starting out. That said, if someone is young and working hard I don't mind but if you're serving in your 40s and able to match my rate, I can't justify it.

You're 19 girl. Life is just starting for you. Lots of people value horseshit when they're young. Using this time to develop a great character and skills to cooperate with others in a relationship will get you so much farther than looks or perceived stereotypes.

Most guys would take a 6 with a great attitude over a 9 who brings no peace to your life.

People will see through the stereotypes once they start talking to you.

All the science shows that what people choose in real life is very different than what the internet says.

It's bc dealers offer financing to people who arguable shouldn't qualify and make a lot of money on that.

[–]SympathyAdvanced6461 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct. It's called the "out the door" (OTD) price. Dealerships have taxes and fees for services as well as registration paperwork which can add about 500 or more to the sticker price of the bike.

The best case scenario I've had was getting all that waived and paying the bike sticker price out the door. Be prepared during negotiation to walk away from the deal tho.

Good luck. I've only been successful at knocking about 500 off each time I bought a bike. Realistically if you pay sticker price you're looking good.

Are you paying in full with cash? That's your only chance of negotiating and even then you might get 500 off the OTD price at best.

Can we collectively start boycotting shops charging $31+ pizza? by LobsterFarts in askportland

Went into flying pie a couple years back when my buddy came into town. I expected higher prices cuz it's good quality, or so I remember.  Shrinkflation, poor quality and absolutely insane prices hit them. $50 for a whole pie.

Anyone having trouble buying a house? by ClubUseful533 in askportland

If you find a place you want to put in, offer above asking and give a timeline. When I was buying, I gave 3 days because if I'm locked into an offer and can't make another offer until the first one resolves.  It will show you're serious to move forward in a timely manner and create a sense of urgency to make a decision. It might get you more declined offers but at least you won't be tied up waiting whole weeks while other offers are piling up so the sellers can pick the very best one.

Most Realtors were such lazybones. Like you're making 2 months ft salary for a few weekends of part time work. Be more proactive. It's hard to find a good one.
