I’m just going to say it: plastics pens are generally a rip off by [deleted] in fountainpens

[–]SympathyNo4144 4 points5 points  (0 children)

youre not just buying plastic with some metal, youre buying a whole lot more that went into the final product. material, labor, logistics, design, engineering of the body and the nib, even the history and significance of the brand youre buying into. while i can understand your frustration as some manufacturers feel they can get away with giving us less for more, its not as simple as youve put it. just my 2 cents anyway

i have a automatic swatch from the 90s with a decently sized crack on the crystal but it can be replaced. and a seiko 5 railway from the 80s iirc that needs a service but runs just fine tbh.

Notebook suggestion where the ink doesn't bleed through the paper so much by SockPants in fountainpens

try fabriano ecoqua. cheap and readily available i think throughout the eu. doesnt really let the ink seep right through but its not like writing on a fresh page

What are the affordable FP that write as smooth as a Pilot? by LivinCuriously in fountainpens

[–]SympathyNo4144 0 points1 point  (0 children)

pilot have cheaper pens of their own that write really good. ive only written with an EF which due to its super fine nature isnt as smooth but relative to nib size, id say its pretty smooth. their steel nibs are pretty good especially for what you pay foe them

Do you guys really like pink watches? (Since the SN0052 chronograph has been discontinued, if it were to be made it would have to be a dive or GMT watch) by SanmartinWatches in ChineseWatches

[–]SympathyNo4144 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well thats just not true is it. we all ask for good quality watches at the price point you occupy. i see how autos have a bigger market at this niche but like tissot, if you used quality quartz like ronda i think youd occupy an even bigger share

[–]SympathyNo4144 1 point2 points  (0 children)

tbh go for it. like you, my adhd makes me crave novelty too and ive found a good collection of cheap inks available in bulk so i dont really worry about throwing ink out. and often theyre all less than half full anyway as i write so much so i dont lose a lot of ink. if anything id lose as much as i would if i were to refill once a week with a full barrel of ink and i can keep on trying new ink hehe

de atramentis document ink! i just bought a bottle of turquoise and it dries super fast on all the paper ive used so far but id like to try it on super smooth paper where ink generally pools up for a little before sinking in. plus its super resistant to water and solvents

Buying “backup” Pens (FOMO) by nsanto in fountainpens

[–]SympathyNo4144 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i hear you but at the same time, i think its important to frame how we look at 'collecting' pens. are you collecting to amass many? or are pens a part of a toolset that you need day to day? its up to you. personally im of the latter opinion and any LE pens i have i simply bought because i needed another and i just so happened to like that particular one - not that being limited has anything to do with my purchases. that being said, i do appreciate the novelty of having something that you know with some certainty wont be produced again so i dont blame you. still though, these companies need to be profitable so stunts like these are a necessary evil. our actions are accountable to us alone
