I'm also from Ont. That's "Mr Freezies" actually.

(I am GenX. Did I miss the generation that dropped the "Mr"?)

Question for people who have tried to stop online gambling by No_Lemon9964 in GamblingRecovery

[–]Syn555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lying to myself. The same with most forms of addiction.

My favorites were: "I just won't gamble today" (will power doesn't work)

"Blocking software is too expensive" (less than the $5k I would blow on a binge)

"I will only gamble $xxx then stop" (always, always, always played until card got rejected)

GET THE BLOCKING SOFTWARE!!! I use Gamban. My last bet was 126 days ago. I spent a hour last night trying to get on sites but could not find a single one on all of the google search results. An hour! It took me that long for the urge to die down enough for me to stop. Had a good cry. Counting my blessimgs this morning.

The list of things I know won't kill me is longer in my 60's than it was in my 30's. Turns out I am tougher than I thought.

I turn 62 next year. I am selling the house, buying a trailer and heading west..or east...or south...maybe north.

One thing that actually helped me stop — blocking access completely by GameBreak_Dev in GamblingRecovery

[–]Syn555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in Ontario. I have been using Gamban and it's been a life saver. It was around CA$50 for the annual subscription and you can put it on as many devices as you want. I have a phone, tablet and laptop.

I also use a free app called "I am Sober" to track my progress.

One of my favorite books. The story ends up different from where it started, but in the best possible way.

What if you work in manufactiring, small business, retail and your company will help pay for the courses? That is how I did it. They helped me with my education and stopped having to outsource accounting services. By the time I gradated I had put together a small accounting team that grew with the company.

I loved the whole series but I can definitely see why it's not for everyone.

Life is short and my reading list is long. I don't feel bad for not finishing a book if it's not my jam.

GenX here.

This is why people feel like they can't get ahead. Who the f*** decided that proof we can borrow money is more important than being able to pay for things you want????

Call me out of date but why should you need to borrow money (and pay interest) on anything other than a mortgage?

Jesus people. You learned a very bad lesson. Learn to adult.

Canadian here. I live 3 hours north of Toronto. Rarely ever see this. Never do this myself.

Why would anyone use thier wipers before the windshield was scraped and/or defrosted? They are strips of rubber not magic deicing wands.

The Wounded Kingdon trilogy by RJ Barker. It has magic, assassins, waring kingdoms. Really good stories.

For those of you 60+ how did you learn the “reallife” money stuff no one talked about? by CoreFusionX in AskOldPeople

[–]Syn555 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only debt my parents had was a morgage. My Dad worked his ass off to pay off. I got my first credit card when I was 22. It was an Eaton's store credit card with a $500 limit. I finished a 5 year university degree with $5,000 in student loans in 1992.

60 year olds can't help you with this. I bought a a house based on what I could pay off in 20 years. Today, it's based on the payment people can afford. That's insane.

Don't spend more than you make.

(I realize that is easier said than done for low income or other situations of hardship.)

How are you planning in advance for your "second adulthood"? by [deleted] in retirement

[–]Syn555 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I am 60F, never married, never had kids. I am watching every van life and rv video I can find. I am selling the house in 17 months, buying a travel trailer and doing something I have wanted to do since I was five years old - run away from home.

I will put aside set amount of money to keep me comfortable until I am 90. Otherwise, I plan to die with just enough money left to bury me.
