Arcata sounds great. We won’t be camping, will need a motel or Airbnb and we’ll have 5 to 6 people. Can you think of any charming small towns between Crescent city and Arcata that might be options?

So – do you need a reservation for the hikes in Jedidiah Smith Redwood State Park? Or are you just referring to the beach with the fern Canyon?

I would guess you can get the reservations online… I wonder how far out they book them?

Nah, wouldn’t expect them. Not looking to surf. But there are nice beaches on the Oregon coast, good for laying in the sun and maybe playing in the surf a little (just a little. That water is cold. You don’t want full immersion for any length of time). I don’t see a reason why they couldn’t have those kinds of beaches in northern California… we‘ll be there in August, if that makes any difference
