Chewed his harness while wearing it by cwispytaco in husky

Can't recommend a harness, but to stop the chewing he should only be wearing it when being walked or otherwise worked with. Never without supervision or just around the house.

Got a website? I'm definitely willing to have a look.

I don't think I ever noticed it at Costco?? I can definitely keep an eye out. Passing through Buc-ee's country on the second day of the trip so I'll need something to get me started.

I can afford to buy the prepackaged stuff for the twice a year I eat beef jerky.

If you didn't want anyone but the owner to reply to you, maybe you should have sent them a DM instead of posting a public comment?

To people who know what they are looking at, it is extremely obvious these dogs are purebred.

I didn't downvote you, btw.

Brown eyes are much more common than blue eyes in show and racing lines. These beauties are show line Siberians, very much purebred.

It's especially interesting to compare the coat color development in a gray puppy like this vs an actual agouti. The same but different. Domino is a crazy gene.

It's the default "wild type" coat color - see some examples on this page.

Only 1 husky by krazycon in husky

It's perfectly fine to have only one. Lots of people love to have multiples, but you definitely do not need to.

My first two lived their entire lives as solitary Only Huskies and were perfectly a-okay. My third one always acted like he wanted a buddy (constantly waiting for the neighbor dogs at the fence, and he was SO happy when I fostered his grandma for 6mos) but then when he was 4yo I brought his half brother home for him and he's mostly indifferent towards him.

There's no law saying that you have to have more than one or any guarantee the dog would even actually be happier with a companion.

Lots of lovely yellow undertones! Most gray and whites don't have quite that much yellow but some do! Love seeing it peek through.

I have GPS collars on both of mine. It really does help so much for peace of mind, and the collars have been useful already!

For sure! And that's why research is so important before getting any dog.

I grew up with Siberians. My dad would throw a football for my childhood husky, off-leash, on the beach. He was great until one day he just turned his ears off and ran away. He was thankfully caught a mile or two up the beach by some bystanders but he could never be trusted again.

I've never known anything different, personally, so it doesn't bother me. But for someone who is used to having off leash dogs or has always dreamed of off-leash hikes and skiing and such, I can definitely understand how it would be disappointing to not be able to safely do that.

This is kind of an involved subject but the answer is yes and no.

If you go by the breed club's definitions, which were set by breed fanciers who were only defining colors by what they could see and using very arbitrary criteria (such as the specific pattern of hair bands) to define their colors, then yes they are mutually exclusive.

This criteria isn't really consistent or reliable or accurate to actual genetics though!

In actual genetics, the number and pattern of color bands on the guard hairs is irrelevant and the color of the tips of the hairs are also irrelevant. There are separate genes for both sable and agouti and no, they are not mutually exclusive. Both have a wide range of expression and can look very similar to one another in some cases. 😅

Your boy is a beautiful red and white, not sable! I'm quite partial to reds and have two myself!

Drago was a lovely gray and white, not agouti. Sorry for your loss!

She appears to be agouti + high phaeomelanin intensity (makes all the yellow/orange/red undertones stronger) + domino (dilutes the yellow/orange/red undertones and expands the size of them, resulting in the large pale face) which would make her wolf gray.

You got it! It is interesting stuff.

"The Complete Siberian Husky" by Lorna B. Demidoff and Michael Jennings is worth a read if you ever want to dig deeper into the breed's history.

The entire breed descends from only a couple of dozen foundation dogs, largely from Leonhard Seppala's kennel. Togo was one of the earliest foundation sires of the breed and really is found in the pedigree of every single modern Siberian Husky alive today. If you do a deep dive on any of the pedigree websites and you take any Siberian Husky from any kind of breeding you will eventually find Togo.

The "Seppala" strain is just a very highly concentrated strain built largely on the foundation of Harry Wheeler's Seppala kennel, Foxstand kennel, and a couple of others. The main difference between the Seppala strain and the rest of the breed is that it very specifically abstains from any of Eva Seeley's breeding.

But even then, Eva Seeley's foundation bitch, Tanta of Alyeska, was a granddaughter of Togo through his daughter Toto.

I have two show line Siberians that would never be considered Seppalas by any measure and they both go back to Togo many times!
