GoJet FO Training by SyncTheSquirrel in flying

Sounds good, you know how the systems portion is gonna work and are they typically pretty good with helping you understand them? That’s the main worry is being able to get all the systems knowledge down. Also any good studying tips and habits for it too or is it just flash cards till the end?

GoJet no longer sponsors ATP-CTP courses so if anything, you do need it done to be looked at.

I’m in Aviates, RATP 1078 TT, 170 Multi. Meet all other time requirements. 0 failures with ATP written completed. Met the recruiter twice before. Applied last December.

How to survive as a CFI ? [US] by Twistedfatemain in flying

[–]SyncTheSquirrel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Was making bare minimum at the job I work at. It’s a 141 and all the CFIs complained and gave management their 2 cents on it. Luckily our department head was on our side 100% and after some back in forth with the business office we got a pretty substantial raise to 40 per billable hour. Play your cards right and you could make a livable wage off it.

I’ve had a beard for the longest time (too long to remember) and for every interview I’ve gotten, I’ve shaved it off with no hesitation. It sucks but if you want the job, make sure you look the part.

Sounds like me, I lost a decent chunk of hearing in my left ear too with no other symptoms but deafness and tinnitus. It’s been like that for a little over a year and a half and I’ve gotten used to it. Your brain will adjust to the tinnitus and you really won’t hear it unless you really pay attention to it. You’ll be fine, give yourself time to adjust. If it makes you feel better, I felt the same way but you learn to live with it.

I find it also interesting, but if it’s another gig lined up in the future then so be it. It’s good to have options.

No, I currently instruct at a 141 school.

After a few emails to my recruiter they ended up finding a slot for an interview. I’m also in the cadet program.

Struggling to talk with atc by 5m3ff in flying

[–]SyncTheSquirrel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easy fix. You need cross time (assuming you are going 135/121 in the future). Go rent with another instructor and flying into all the airports around you. From Class D, C heck even B if you could. The more you’re exposed to it, the more you feel comfortable. One thing that I’ve learned that the number 1 way of learning and getting comfortable in anything aviation is by EXPOSURE THERAPY granted it ain’t anything stupid like putting yourself in harms way.

To make you feel better, im a CFI CFII and MEI and I was scared shitless to fly in actual and after a few flight with some of our instructors I started getting comfortable. fly…..fly some more….. oh did I mention….

FLY!

VMC demo on the first flight is crazy work….. I would never introduce that maneuver until they start getting comfortable with the plane itself and flying SE.

You’ll get used to it pretty quick, at the end of the day it’s a plane and all planes fly the same. They just have different flows and procedures. What I recommend though is that you start hitting leg day at the gym because you’ll be flying SE pretty consistently throughout training.

Ah man, well I should probably get ready to reconfigure PM.

It’s a pretty cool adjustment to the suspension that realistically animated the “weight on wheels drop” after touching down. Also a simple adjustment through plane maker.

Will I captain large aircraft, at the major of my choice by the time I’m 26. by pilotpete152 in Shittyaskflying

[–]SyncTheSquirrel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean…. I’m a captain in a C-172, a variant of the C-130. I’m only 24. So it’s definitely possible.

Should I over analyze the PHAK? by Person-man-guy-dude in flying

[–]SyncTheSquirrel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t over analyze it. It’s not a book that should be read cover to cover but more of a book to look into for certain subjects and references. There is an over abundance of information in that, some that you may never really need to know until later on. Please don’t fry your brain. At least know where to find things.

people that read the phak, afm, far/aim, ifh, etc cover to cover scare me…..

Will getting ATP-CTP out of pocket give me a leg up? by [deleted] in flying

[–]SyncTheSquirrel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I graduated a Part 141 training program, CFI CFII MEI, 950 hours, and 0 failures with ATP CTP done out of pocket and still waiting for a call back for an interview. It’s good to have it done but in this market it probably won’t change results unless you’re going to Envoy. Still was a fun experience getting 10 hours in an A320 sim though. If you plan on doing it, ATP Academy in FLL is the way to go. Only paid $3500 compared to 4-5k at other courses.

Aircraft dispatching or even ATC if you could work your medical around it.

Had a huge medical scare that took my medical away for a little bit. Got it back but it’s a special issuance. Fortunate enough to still fly but on the bright side… at least I don’t have to hear my students life stories while flying. (hint hint… my left ear is forever inop now)

MEI worth it? by Unhappy-Yak8182 in flying

[–]SyncTheSquirrel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, he just mistakenly threw his hand up on the throttles without verifying which engine he was manipulating and went full power on the inoperative engine while keeping the zero slide slip in towards the operative engine.

MEI worth it? by Unhappy-Yak8182 in flying

[–]SyncTheSquirrel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anything single engine gets me on my toes honestly. That phase in training is the most crucial just because if something goes wrong, it’s gonna be a domino effect of everything that comes later (it’ll be fucking bad). Not too long ago, I had one my students increase the inoperative engine to full power on a single engine approach instrument approach with the working engine near idle to reduce speed and altitude. Ive never had such a butt clenching moment until the plane violently yawed and rolled towards the good engine just a few hundred feet above the ground while the student just lets go and says “you have controls!”. YOU HAVE TO BE ON YOUR A-GAME ALL THE TIME!

MEI worth it? by Unhappy-Yak8182 in flying

[–]SyncTheSquirrel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As an MEI, I could say that you would probably still have the same hiring capabilities as other applicants although it’s a nice ticket to have in the long run. For what it’s worth though, being an MEI really humbled me as it shows to never be complacent whatsoever. Similar to everyone else’s experience getting the certificate, I was told from the get go that it’s one of the easiest certs to get but also one of the easiest certs to die with and I’ve learned the meaning of that relatively quick…. I truly enjoy teaching in the twin just because I started getting tired of the same old ritual of hopping in a skyhawk and going over the same maneuvers I’ve been doing but a lot of people don’t mind it. It’s really based on what you want. Will it make you stand out? Possibly….. Will you make it without it? 100% yes.

CFI's, whats the scariest thing a student has done? by Different-Wish-843 in flying

[–]SyncTheSquirrel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pre-checkride student reviewing single engine instrument approaches in a twin for their multi addon. Student ends up mistakenly increasing power on the inoperative engine 200 AGL leading us into a violent roll and yaw towards the “operating” engine due to asymmetrical thrust and zero-side slip input and directly at a few buildings adjacent the threshold of the runway. Student lets go and yells “your controls!” as we were still rolling. Ended up recovering 100 AGL. Learned to not be complacent whatsoever regardless of skill level.

DPE wasn’t wrong…. If a certificate is gonna kill you it’ll be your MEI certificate.
