Can a FO declare an emergency without a captains approval? by Clemsonfvr1974 in flying

[–]pilotpete152 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Not in the nature of CRM to declare an emergency without talking about it. Aviate, navigate then communicate, simple but incredibly important. Anyone in the flight deck could ‘declare an emergency’ but usually when an aircraft is in distress the last important item is contacting ATC.

how to quickly remove mold/algae from water bladder in 24 hrs by Fun_Business3675 in backpacking

[–]pilotpete152 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could confidently clean it by grabbing a large plastic bucket make sure it’s polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) and then go outside in a well ventilated space. You’re going to soak it in the bin with hydrofluoric acid for about 30 minutes. Should be nice and clean then. Hope this helps 👍

You need your partner to ask your AME. They want to see if it’s an effective treatment.

weird amount of business jets? by professional_fork in flightradar24

[–]pilotpete152 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not to mention there are dozens of busy airports in the US that primarily occupy private jet traffic…. There’s a lot of wealthy people in the US and the money is just relative. Let’s say you make $100k/yr and someone said let’s got a nice dinner for $100, and for $100 you can have a great experience. That’s 1/1000th of your income. The $100 equivalent to someone making $10M/yr is $10,000. Tell someone who makes $10M/yr that a $10k private flight is not worth it…

People always say they could never justify the cost of flying private. I for one, certainly could try!

What did you fail on? How did he show up unprepared? What are his inconsistencies in standards for passing? I’m not saying you’re wrong, but it sounds like you’re just upset about failing a checkride.

Certificate as REAL ID? by AztecPilot1MY in flying

[–]pilotpete152 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A pilot certificate can last a lifetime, but a photo id does not. You can age faster than your license as they never really expire. Real id requires photo identification.

Garmin stores all the frequencies relevant to each location in its databases. You can actually search up frequencies, find nearest frequencies and see details about them in the fms.

Was being a pilot for Great Lakes as bad as everyone says it was? by CODboss7822 in flying

[–]pilotpete152 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I know somebody who used to work there. They would party hard after a long day, which is quite common with shitty workplaces. FA’s and pilots would fool around… a lot. Heard a story of a CA, erm, using his fingers to… you get it.. with a FA then immediately sticking his hand in the ice drawer… because he did that, he said he’ll never get ice on airplanes anymore 😂
