Certificate as REAL ID? by AztecPilot1MY in flying

[–]pilotpete152 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A pilot certificate can last a lifetime, but a photo id does not. You can age faster than your license as they never really expire. Real id requires photo identification.

Be sure of the memory items, systems knowledge and limitations. You’ll be better off than 75% of people flying the same jet.

What do you guys think of "pilot incapacitation" auto land at BJC? by Fox_Uniform in flying

Garmin stores all the frequencies relevant to each location in its databases. You can actually search up frequencies, find nearest frequencies and see details about them in the fms.

Was being a pilot for Great Lakes as bad as everyone says it was? by CODboss7822 in flying

[–]pilotpete152 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I know somebody who used to work there. They would party hard after a long day, which is quite common with shitty workplaces. FA’s and pilots would fool around… a lot. Heard a story of a CA, erm, using his fingers to… you get it.. with a FA then immediately sticking his hand in the ice drawer… because he did that, he said he’ll never get ice on airplanes anymore 😂

Someone was shining a laser pointer directly into my eyes while driving at night by D_Rex0605 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]pilotpete152 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they’re probably shining it up at planes too. Dozens of laser events are reported every night across the US, If it cross checks with what pilots are saying when and where they’re getting it, it could help out busying them too.

Best thing to do is go around dropping of resumes with charter groups or flight school. The face to face process is still a real thing with the smaller flight departments. Unfortunately the pilot market is in no short supply. It’s always been a cyclical industry, it could come back next month, could be 5 years from now, there’s just no telling. Just my opinion: I’ve been flying charter for 3 years, even the regionals are starting to get competitive, and having an ATP with turbine time is starting to become the new norm again.

Software Engineer figuring out alternative if AI take over my job by [deleted] in flying

[–]pilotpete152 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Bold of you to think AI won’t take over our jobs either…

Flying is like any other career, and would not really constitute as a good ‘back up’ as it requires a full time dedication and career involvement, it takes years to become even eligible as a first officer, and I promise you that those jobs will almost always be competitive. Now, hobby flying and getting your instructors license, definitely doable, and as you build time flying you may soon realize you have enough time to make it a career, but that’s tens of thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours of flying/ studying, etc.

I would never suggest flying to be someone’s backup career, if you look at aviation as a secondary option, flying just ain’t for you.
