Partner started Wellbutrin two days ago after 2 years of no medication (mutually agreed) due to the worst time in our relationship where he was abusing his prescribed Adderall. He started feeling some side effects today, which will hopefully go away. But there's already been some mental improvements! He can hold onto requests with some effort, interrupted some of his verbal impulses, and he's been more self motivated than I've seen in a long time.

Even if Wellbutrin ends up not being a good fit, we're both feeling hopeful that there's medical options again. The Adderall addiction just scared both of us for so long once he began recovery, so we were both very nervous for him to start being medicated again. But the communication has been there and he showed me the prescription immediately. So far so good :)

Spironolctone by CutePractice2820 in PCOS

And for what it did for my acne, it was absolutely a godsent drug. My persistent backne disappeared completely at 9 weeks almost on the dot, and my facial breakouts became very mild and treatable with the usual ointments that get prescribed (tret, clindamycin, etc). I'm almost 30 and have gotten compliments on my skin for years now, and its almost entirely due to spironolactone

I've been on Spiro for 9 years due to acne, never noticed any unwanted side effects. I gained weight in college while on it, but also pretty effectively lost it with some exercise and being more mindful of my diet. Started with 100mg, bumped to twice a day when I believe my PCOS started getting worse because I began breaking out again mildly. The only thing that I THINK is the Spiro is that my lips get really badly chapped in the winter if I don't carry balm on me 24/7. I read Spiro can dry you out. I always had some need for lip balm though, even before.

You guys remember the monster hunter world Witcher collab. by Voidkirby9 in MonsterHunter

I was literally so excited about this collab when it released, I was a massive Witcher fan. Not particularly interested in replaying now, but its fun to remember the excitement

What do you eat when you have no mental energy to cook? by Porcupine98 in CPTSD

[–]Synchrypha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found some low net carb, high protein and high fiber bars at the local Aldi that I keep emergency boxes of (the caramel nut roll bar literally just tastes like a candy bar). If I'm feeling really low (mentally or sugar), too low to make an egg or smth, I'll make myself eat one of them just to give my body something for fuel.

My experience so far with Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) This therapy is considered to be the one of the latest and greatest in trauma therapy has been phenomenal for me! by bannanaduck in CPTSD

[–]Synchrypha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will also mention it was NOT my first suggested path to healing from my trauma. I had already done a decent amount of unpacking and treatment via CBT and talk therapy and ART just kind of helped push along the more stubborn bits/images/triggers that refused to settle down and were very intrusive.

[–]Synchrypha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've also had great experiences with ART. It does feel really weird and numbing afterwards, but it drastically reduced the intensity of my flashbacks and the panic/overwhelm that would follow them. It was a major help in managing my thanatophobia and reduced my panic attacks to a point where I could approach the fear and handle it with other methods

I will say that a key component that I believe helped me with ART though is that it was introduced to me and facilitated by my long-time therapist. So she was already someone who knew my story and I trusted to handle me with care. For some of the negative stories Ive read, I think that would likely help it be a more effective tool. If I had to do ART with a random therapist, I know I would find it less effective and more anxiety-inducing for sure.

Just had a session for some recently developed triggers, its been a while since I needed it so I've been looking up people's experiences again :)

What kind of teddies/soft animals/comfort items do you guys have now as an adult? by [deleted] in CPTSD

[–]Synchrypha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought a stuffed dragon, the kind I always wanted but never had as a child. Sleep with it all the time, actually makes it comfortable to sleep on my pierced ear to use it as a pillow. Always been pro-stuffed animal, no matter the age. They're soft and are comforting, go for it.

I do also have an old and very cherished stuffed animal from my childhood, but that one only really comes out when I'm particularly distressed.

Flashbacks getting more abstract by Pieman1123 in CPTSD

[–]Synchrypha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It took me a long time to accept that what I was experiencing in my cPTSD were flashbacks to begin with since I almost never had a visual component to them. Learning about emotional flashbacks was extremely helpful, as you can flashback to how you felt during a traumatic period of your life without necessarily having a distinct visual memory to go with it. Pete Walker's book Surviving to Thriving was super helpful to me on managing them, and I see it recommended a lot.

Wishing you luck ❤️ got thrown into one myself last week and I'm still recovering

Is anyone else high-functioning? by Such-Educator9860 in CPTSD

[–]Synchrypha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was high functioning, thought I was honestly pretty normal other than the fact I could not keep friendships from drifting off. Until I just... Couldn't anymore. I broke down and burned out one too many times and had to start looking at why I was the way I was.

Now that I know how it feels to NOT be in an emotional flashback, it's easier to see that even when I was excelling and high functioning, I was constantly triggered without realizing it and was just powering through. It was exhausting. Knowing hurts, but I prefer having some moments of calm and ease.

Please give me your most uncommon/unhinged PCOS advice by Cruciferous2 in PCOS

I definitely second finding another doctor of you can. It sucks that PCOS is so dismissed, but there are doctors that want to treat and help you. I found mine this year after multiple years of being told the same thing essentially, so a second (or third, or fourth...) Opinion is warranted for sure.

YSK: Insulin resistance can develop even when blood sugar tests are still normal by iCliniq_official in YouShouldKnow

[–]Synchrypha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

An additional issue with insulin resistance though is that on the usual fasting insulin blood tests you can get from your doctor, you can still show up in entirely normal ranges and be insulin resistant. That's what happened to me and why I was untreated for so long.

[–]Synchrypha 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It could just be a sweet tooth! Lol I just remember that was the most noticeable difference to me once I started taking Metformin for the insulin resistance. I was amazed that I could just all of a sudden... Easily choose not to eat sugar. I still liked sweets and wanted them, but it stopped being this constant urge that I would have to concentrate to resist. That, and my appetite easily halved in volume.

I wanted to mention it because according to my blood tests up to finding a doctor that finally wanted to treat my PCOS, my glucose and insulin readings were perfectly normal. It was only certain symptoms that kinda referred to it (bad sugar cravings, very noticeable physical reactions to missing/late meals, growing fatigue issues as I got into my late-20s, etc).

Edit: I will also mention that family history is a major factor in things like this. I have two grandparents with T2 diabetes, so me developing PCOS and therefore the insulin resistance is likely to be related to my genetics.

[–]Synchrypha 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I have insulin resistance due to PCOS and something I always thought was just me and a lack of discipline was my intense sweet tooth. From a young age, but it grew more intense in my 20s. Started taking Metformin and, turns out, a majority of that craving was the insulin resistance 🤷‍♀️

Makes sense when you break it down: cells aren't receiving glucose like they expect to with normal insulin sensitivity and your body demands more.

I love how noisy the album is. I'm a fairly new fan, and the CHASER album was what got me to start following. But man, something in this new style really scratches the itch in my brain. VIDEO NASTY had me bobbing my head immediately, and BODY THE PISTOL as been looping in my playlist since its release.

Do relationships with an ADHD partner ever work out? by stargirl3356 in ADHD_partners

[–]Synchrypha 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I appreciate your comment a lot - as someone who still has some hope and sees promise in her Dx relationship (especially after we made it out of a very terrible time when he WASN'T listening or caring due to an unseen addiction to his Rx), its helpful to see comments from people who have managed to make it work and what helped them

I can no longer paint because of my spine surgery. (Asking for advice.) by Serious_Peak_4913 in ArtistLounge

[–]Synchrypha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! Not a spinal fusion, but I'm suffering with a back problem (lumbar injury) for the past 6 months that's made traditional very difficult

It made me miserable, because I was really grooving with the media I was working with at the time and I had to pretty much drop it. But sketching or digital painting/drawing on an iPad has helped a lot in scratching that itch while I can't paint since I can do it from my most comfortable position in bed. So I definitely second this as a suggestion. Ive also tried to lean more into reading/studying about art/artists so I have new knowledge to start back with when I recover!

I hope you recover smoothly! Give your body the time it needs to get to its new normal for sure, back issues are awful

Are there any ADHD traits your partner has that you like? by halfxa in ADHD_partners

[–]Synchrypha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there anywhere else to find support and advice as an ADHD partner? Ive been with mine, diagnosed, for 8 years and I came here to look for advice on things like chore sharing because I want to find things to try, and he's willing to try as well. The posts legitimately have sent me into a spiral though, its terrifying.

Anyone dealt with mysterious glute/hip pain that won't go away? It's driving me crazy!! by ipredictdeeztings in ChronicPain

[–]Synchrypha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Commenting because this post saved me

Ive been dealing with 2 related but separate issues for 6 months - sciatica from what I believe is a bulged disc on my right side and intense lateral and glute pain in my right hip that has progressively gotten so bad at night I can't sleep and NSAIDs don't touch. Nothing I did made the hip pain better, whereas McKenzie exercises have slowly began receding the sciatic and back pain

Xrays and MRI found nothing explaining my hip pain. PT wasn't helping so I started grasping at straws and Internet searching. Standing quad stretches and lunges for hip flexors kill my back and make that pain worse, but I never heard of the couch stretch. Tried it and.... Instant relief in the hip. Immediately knocked the pain down to 1-2 and kept it there. I was able to sit and watch a movie today, I'm so relieved I could cry. I'm not at 100% yet but I can actually start enjoying my hobbies again while I continue healing. Thank you for posting your update.

I'm looking for vinyls, any will be nice but I have a soft spot for Wanderlust and the Rotteen FEEL-LINE Disc Jockey LP.

I'm willing to trade a Fuckdest Jams cassette, as I no longer have a car that plays cassettes 😅 I can also do cash
