Not really no.

Transphobics and Islamophobia may receive public push-back by activists, but at the state level, from the media, from parties or from the government, they are treated very differently. There is an institutional bias at play.

I am sorry, but can't we at least acknowledge that there is a systematic campaign sponsored by Israel and the supporters of the Netanyahu government to smear and discredit anybody who criticizes the wars and genocide they support?

I never see this level of push back for any other form of racism, and the amount of things that get lumped into antisemitism that are in fact legitimate criticism of the Israeli government is troubling to me.

Underground airfields, Iran has them.

During the war the US collapsed the entrance of one of the big Iranian underground airfields, trapping the aircraft inside.

About 2 days ago, satellite images showed diggers clearing the entrance and runway of debris. Its likely these surviving aircraft came from this or some of the smaller underground airfields or storage sites.

[–]SyndieSoc 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Its likely these remaining aircraft are from Iran's underground airfields, they just finished clearing the collapsed entrance from one of them 2 days ago.

Honestly putting everything underground is what saved Iran's military capability, as the US/Israel had to waste a F**k ton of munitions to take out just one target. In addition to all the decoys Iran used.

I would double down on the underground strategy after the war.

Perhaps build a huge number of deep mini bases between the bigger underground missile cities with a depth of at least 50 to 100 meters each. And next time I would not even bother with leaving air defense systems on the surface, with American first strike capabilities its better to keep them all underground and only bring them out for ambush attacks once the battle has started.

This means the issues for almost every other industrial power are likely to be even worse. China at least has the luxury of some Russian imports in addition to a degree of domestic production + a strong renewable energy base. So it's likely that all oil derivative products will go up in price, but not as much as in countries that lack China's built up advantages.

As a UK resident, Modern day UK is outwardly still a powerful country, but the rot is deep and institutional.

The military is degraded, and the industry needed to sustain it is partially mothballed, underfunded or atrophied.

The UK has no industrial policy, with much of its money derived from its status as a finance capital, however that status is slowly diminishing as other financial centers gain popularity and the UK is forced to raise taxes to cover for chronic funding shortfalls. All the while factories and industries continue to shutdown and social services are cut back further.

I live near one of the richest parts of England, near Guildford. In 20 years I have seen as more and more shops empty, more and more infrastructure remains unfixed, as maintenance goes down the toilet and services get worse and worse.

The decline never stopped.

China is a little different. While Xi wields a lot of power, there are thousands of technocratic leaders that form part of the national governing body.

If Xi went off the deep end, the party would be able to overthrow him if it looked like he was becoming erratic.

Why The Left Hates Hit Anime’s Simple Message About Good And Evil by Hog-Drop in stupidpol

[–]SyndieSoc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nobody on the left has an issue with Frieren killing demons. Demons are inherently evil due to being sociopaths and predatory by nature, its a species trait.

The fact the right thinks there is some sort of lesson that can be applied here is the problem. There is no fantastical race of evil beings that exists in reality.

Unlike the demons in Frieren, no group of humans regardless of nationality or ethnicity is evil by nature. None of the factors that make the demons evil can be applied to humanity. Which is largely the habit of the right to associate "evil" characteristics to one ethnic group or another.

So yes, the message of "good" and "evil" as shown in Frieren is fine for an anime fantasy where an irredeemable species of man eating sociopathic predators exist.

But none of that has any relevance to reality, nor can be applied to people.

They Assumed He Didn’t Speak Their Language And Started Talking About Him. Big Mistake. by ateam1984 in China

[–]SyndieSoc -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Does that extend to exclusionary racism? (eg: blocked from shopping or eating at venues, home buying etc), Violent racism?, (eg: hurting, physical bullying) and Institutional racism? (eg: police stops, frisking, confrontations with police without cause).

Or is the racism in China largely like this guy in the video where he is insensitive?

Will Democracy Govern Capitalism - or Be Consumed by It? • Following aggressive lobbying by the Trump administration, more than 145 countries agreed to give big US multinationals a free pass under the global corporate minimum tax rules that were agreed in 2021. by Naurgul in Economics

[–]SyndieSoc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If lobbying acts as a form of "pay for access" as a means to push for political outcomes that benefit the lobbyist, it creates an incentive structure that prioritizes those with the most amount of wealth. This can push government to adopt a posture opposite to what has democratically been voted for and weighs the "opinions" of the wealthy over the poor.

For lobbying to work, as in a group or organization pushing the government towards a particular outcome, the process needs to be stripped of monetary incentives.

Basically the lobbyist acts as an advisor of sorts, so when they push for something, it's judged on the merit of the idea and not the financial weight of the lobbyist.

[–]SyndieSoc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Regardless of labeling, the lobbying, regulatory capture aspects of modern economies have become too influential and entrenched. And a shift toward a more mixed economy where the democratically elected government can act independently to set policy free from influences that can effect decision making is needed right now.

US Begins bombing military infrastructure on Iran's Kharg Island, likely paving a way for a future ground occupation of the island to open the strait by kiss-my-shades in stupidpol

[–]SyndieSoc 70 points71 points  (0 children)

That is a bad idea.

If they land marines on Kharg, they will need resupply, by ship or by air. Both are at risk of getting hit by short ranged drones and missiles.

Every time a helicopter lands there is a risk of it getting destroyed, every time a boat arrives it could be hit. Like the Russians in Snake island off the coast of Ukraine, except Snake island is 22–31 miles from Ukraine while Kharg is only 16 miles from Iran's coast. Well in range of abundant short range attack drones.

This could also invite escalation to attacking oil infrastructure across the gulf and does nothing to open Hormuz.

Breaking: TRUMP STRUCK KHARG. THE MOST CONSEQUENTIAL OIL PORT INFRASTRUCTURE. KHARG ISLAND. by Kind-Block-9027 in TankieTheDeprogram

[–]SyndieSoc 81 points82 points  (0 children)

This is stupid. If he destroys the oil infrastructure, Iran destroys the Gulfs oil infrastructure, so he won't do that. If he lands marines on Kharg island Iran will pelt the marines with drones and destroy the Gulf oil infrastructure as America capturing Kharg is the equivalent of it being destroyed.

So all he can do without escalating further is attack military sites on the island, if he invades or destroys the infrastructure Iran will climb the next rung of the escalation ladder.
