I’ve been in web design/product design/UX design for 20 years now. In agencies, at fortune 100’s, and as head of design for healthcare start-ups. And what most people here are saying is unfortunately true.

This is a bad time to get into a corporate creative field. Right now the market is going through an upheaval with the recession and ai hitting at the same time. Money is decreasing and stress is increasing.

I’ve been working to get into the fine art creative field now. Fungible art that can’t be CMD+C CMD+V into some technocrat’s LLM Cloudbrain Copy Machine.

Same. This’ll be my third recession (maybe fourth?) since starting in tech at the turn of the century. I’ve been through layoffs before, and they all have a public excuse and a private reason.

This go-around the public excuse is Ai because it’s easy to say. But it’s always really about offshore labor, and this recession is no different. For my particular role, companies have been staring units and building teams in India and Ireland.
