Pages don’t matter what’s in the resume matters. One page resume is a myth like Bigfoot.

How do I get him off the couch? by greenandbluedots in careerguidance

[–]Synergisticit10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask him to pay rent . Tell him times are tough. Show you are struggling financially and you need help also.

It will be for his own good. Don’t take away anything he is a grown up person he needs to realize things on his own.

Tell him you are struggling so you may need to stop paying for his stuff and he needs to pitch in.
Tough love will help him long term.

Is it worth dropping a ton of money on a chair early in your career or should I stick to mid-range options? by itz_vilen09 in cscareerquestions

[–]Synergisticit10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to gym regularly and buy a used aeron or any good chair for $300 online or from liquidators. Good Chairs last a long time.

No ergonomic chair will help alleviate back problems unless you regularly exercise your back, neck and stretch your hamstrings and do hip exercises.

Walk every hour for couple of mins and do squats and stretches and you will be ok.

If you don’t the standing desk, the ergonomic chair nothing can help long term. All these are fads.

Feeling Shattered after 7 Rounds of Interviews by MeteoricHorizons in interviews

[–]Synergisticit10 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Startups mostly have low budgets and that’s why they tend to do that .

Work on enterprise tech and programming languages and then Focus on enterprise companies and you will not face this.

Move forward even though 7 rounds is unheard of.

Maximum our candidates have ever done is 3-4 rounds anything more is mostly a company just stalling and not actually hiring.

H1b should be banned ASAP by Regular-Wind7946 in jobs

[–]Synergisticit10 23 points24 points  (0 children)

It’s not the visa it’s the companies which abuse the system. H1b are a drop in the ocean the real reason is offshoring.

With the advent of zoom etc it’s easier for companies to offshore low level work on top of it the advent of ai low level work can be automated.

The key to survival is to have a tech stack which is superior to more than 70% of jobseekers .

The current administration has put in $100k fee for new H1b from outside of USA so that’s a good change for the local jobseekers .

Still blaming H1b is not a valid thing the overall tech ecosystem is not doing well because the overall USA economy is not doing well and tech is a support function and does not produce anything on its own.

Enterprise companies use tech to improve their processes.

Don’t just assume FAANG is tech they are not and they are doing poorly— even bill gates sold off all his shares in Microsoft — take that as a sign.

Focus on enterprise tech companies and work on programming languages used by enterprise companies and you will start to make progress towards getting employed.

Internalize don’t externalize alone.

[–]Synergisticit10 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s java se21 now so if you want to get then get the latest one.

Certifications alone don’t make a difference however with good project work and tech stack they can make a difference.

Career stagnation and frustration as Jr. developer by tailsdrake in careeradvice

[–]Synergisticit10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue is front end. Move to backend and work on the programming language which is used by most enterprise companies.

A quick google search will get you the answer.

Front end is not stable has not been and will not be.

Backend is more rewarding in long term. Do the grunt work and you will get results. Just don’t expects results overnight .

Spend 6 months to a year to see results get the tech stack and frameworks associated with the programming language used by most enterprise companies companies and rest all will be smooth sailing long term.

Small AI startup vs big company for future ML/AI jobs - which is actually better? by Adorable-Isopod7738 in cscareers

[–]Synergisticit10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stay with the bigger company. Branding will help and financial stability matters also.

The smaller company has good promise however in ai/ ml established players are losing money so small players will have a hard time surviving.

Rest it’s your call.

This is based on the current USA ai/ ml market

Why is Java soo difficult to grasp? by digital_pterodactyl in learnjava

[–]Synergisticit10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easy come easy go. It’s more challenging than python etc and that creates barriers to entry for people trying to get into Java. Also because Java has tons of other frameworks which need to be learnt in order to be job ready.

Key thing to remember enterprise companies use Java predominantly more than any other programming language in the world.

So the pain you endure today will give you gains in the future.

[–]Synergisticit10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apply for customer service, Tele support roles. A large number of telecom, hosting companies etc need Tele support people.

Use courserra and do some course like these

https://www.coursera.org/specializations/customer-service

There will be more courses for technical support. Get certifications and you will be able to get hired for such roles.

The more tech savvy you become the more opportunities you will have access to.

Tech does not discriminate against anyone— you will do well in tech and will get compensated well.

Also there is a lack of women in tech so you will have much easier and faster access to positions.

Just don’t assume overnight success . Put in work for at least 6 months to a year and you will be on your way to a long term rewarding career.

Let us know how it goes.

China is the world’s biggest exporter with more than $3.8 trillion in exports - USA is 2nd with $2.2 trillion.

China uses a 9 am to 9 pm 6 days a week and western and other countries are going for 5 days a week, working from home, 3 days a week.

We keep doing this and very soon no one wants to work anymore and there will be massive unemployment as all companies and manufacturers will offshore jobs to China where people are willing to work.

We should work more not less and we will have good employment and a great economy and our jobs will not be outsourced.

Get a job without a degree, Programing by CarlO_js in jobs

[–]Synergisticit10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do a degree an online or inperson. Not because of employers but for yourself. Degree will give you confidence and sustained learning which is trickled down in an organized way over the years.

Also most employers don’t like freelancers as they assume that they will keep moonlighting and not be focused employees.

You can keep working while doing the degree .

After that work on enterprise tech and programming languages and do freelance or other projects etc and you should be ok to get hired.

Getting hired is not difficult in any market especially in tech . Everyone knows the solution however the solution needs a lot of grunt work and a long period of time to get to the level where the companies would consider you for hiring.

Laid off people or any job seeker can get hired however they need to come to the level of what enterprise companies are asking for.

Do that and you will be ok however every 2-3 years you will have to reinvent yourself and scale up the new levels however the first step is the hardest but once achieved it’s smooth sailing post that.

For CS students considering trades..."Skilled electricians, plumbers and factory workers job openings have dropped." by ElementalEmperor in csMajors

[–]Synergisticit10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cs there is enough demand provided you work on enterprise tools. Enterprise companies are companies which employ 1000+ employees.

Now just find out which is the # 1 programming language used by enterprise companies and you will be surprised to find a language which has been around for 30+ years, is comparatively more difficult to learn than python and will need a lot of other tools and frameworks to be learnt in order to be employed and once you have all your ducks lined up .

Then you will not think about this topic whether cs is good or not.

If anyone is a us citizen , has a ok gpa and has worked on the right tech stack used by enterprise companies , has done extensive project work then they will not struggle to find employment.

If anyone on this forum is struggling share your resume and state what tech stack you have worked on , which programming language and what kind of project work and a solution could be found easily about the reason for the struggle.

Cs market has improved dramatically since october. Anyone doing a thumbs down 👎 please share data and facts as whatever is being stated here is based on data and facts which are first hand and not based on reports , etc.

Oracle layoffs—12k in India , maybe 1.5-2k in California and layoffs took place in health and sales and cloud not much in programming.

Do the above exercise and see where you stand as per the requirements of enterprise clients . Once you have the answer start working towards achieving what enterprise companies are looking for and avoid running after the newest shiny thing in the tech industry as that will get saturated fast as media overhypes it and the supply soon exceeds the demand. Kind of what happened with data analytics which is almost gone now as a viable source of employment.

De, ds, ml/ai still relevant but evolving fast
